gane cast

was it just me or was gibbs calling a very conservitive game again. many many times last nite joey t said this was gibbs offensive. but correct me if i am wrong when we had both rypien and willaims at the helm we threw the ball deep. i can recall many games where both clark and sanders were on the recieving end of those passes. i understand that greg willaims WILL be our next coach but i think gibbs and offensive staff need to open up the play book this off season

Daseal 12-13-2004 06:58 PM

They need to open it up right now. The season is officially over. Open it up, try crazy things! I'm not saying concede the season, but now's the time to evaluate talent and plays.

MTK 12-13-2004 07:51 PM

Guys, anytime Ramsey set up to look deep he had defenders in his face and knocking him on his arse. Check the tape, I counted several plays where Ramsey took a deep drop and looked down the field, he just wasn't getting the time to get the throw off.

That's been the story of the entire season, we just don't have a line that does a good enough job in pass protection.

We should we open things up and try crazy things? Why don't we work on perfecting the offensive game plan we have and building on that?

Daseal 12-13-2004 08:02 PM

Smoot - our offensive gameplan hasn't exactly panned out for us. It's been okay, but why not try new things and evaluate talent in game situations before the begining of next season?

By the way what the heck is the title of this thread, 'gane cast'?

Kope 12-13-2004 09:09 PM

The Super Bowl years we had a great vertical game (Rypien got sacked like 11 tmes all year when he won)

Most of the other years it was exactly like sunday- take away 100+ yards of ...hell just take away 50 yards of penalties...and that is 2 field goals and that = a win

I remember hating the 4th quarter cause Pettibone loved the prevent.
By the way what the heck is the title of this thread, 'gane cast'?
I liked that system.

memphisskin 12-14-2004 11:38 AM

On some of the plays he didn't have time to look deep, but he lost confidence in the line early so when he was blitzed later in the game even when we picked it up he rushed his throws. I'm not as down on Ramsey, he was ok but I'd like to see more guys get involved in the passing game, where was Gardner, Thrash or McCants? I think the problem is not that we lack playmakers, but we don't give the guys we've got a chance to make plays. That's the biggest problem I see with the offense, because we all know that these guys have talent it just hasn't equated to big plays so far this year.

Ramsey has definitely taken more shots than I'm used to seeing a Gibbs qb take. The line play has been uneven all year, I'm sure that's going to be an area addressed this offseason.

skinsguy 12-14-2004 11:57 AM

Aren't you guys comparing Apples to Oranges? We did have more of a vertical game back in those days because look who our receivers were! I mean, I think Coles still has a chance to develop into a player like Gary Clark, but other than that, I have no idea about the other receivers' futures other than Cooley (which I know isn't a receiver.)

MTK 12-14-2004 12:15 PM

I think we need to take a long hard look at drafting a WR, possibly with out first rounder depending on who's available.

It's no secret we need playmakers on offense. Gardner is gone after next year and unless he turns in to Art Monk Jr. overnight we should gladly let him walk.

RedskinRat 12-14-2004 01:21 PM

Mr. Williams from USC, please.

BossHog 12-14-2004 01:34 PM

I thought the game plan this past week was about spot on. Gutsy call to have only McCants and Cooley running deep routes into the endzone after making a clutch first down. Great call. Not a great decision to throw it into coverage, though. A conservative run or two would have set up an easy game tying FG. Then let our #2 defense do thier job. Damn if we do. Damn if we don't.

I agree. If he is not avalible when were up, I think we trade down or take David Pollack from Georgia. However, we defintley need offensive playmakers, and this guy would be a great complement to Coles. And rest assured, that guy dosent drop a damn thing.

jdlea 12-14-2004 07:38 PM

I don't think drafting Mike Williams is a good idea. I think he is going to be a good player, but not playing all year, he'll have to do well in the combine to get back into the first round IMO. I don't care how good he was last season at USC he hasn't played in a game in a full year. That's not good.

Besides, the Skins need a the best pass rusher they can get. Another receiver isn't nearly as important. I don't care who goes where, if Coles has surgery, you can line up almost anyone on the other side and they will produce. Case in point: Albert Connell. If Ramsey comes into his own we can pick up a receiver in the 2nd or 3rd round and see if they can beat out McCants, Jacobs, Thrash for the #2 spot.

Daseal 12-14-2004 08:29 PM

I think Williams could be a good idea. I also want to see his numbers at the combine. If he gets any slower, ditch that idea! He has good hands though. I wouldn't be suprised to see us go after Cal's QB either if Gibbs isn't happy with Ramsey. That being said, we'll prolly have to drop our next 3 to get him!

I think they need to look at WR's and DE's. I still think they need a speed rusher on the end. Even though the schemes are working this year, they might not next year

SmootSmack 12-14-2004 09:03 PM

I don't want to even think this really but if we lose Smoot (which I pray doesn't happen) then should we be looking at a guy like Antrell Rolle if he's around? Or should we look for secondary help via trade or free agency or later in the draft even?

Great Question! Ade Jimoh isnt the awnser if thats the case, although he will always be a warpath favorite. Walt Harris, maybe. I think if we draft a guy like Rolle, were gonna still be paying pretty high price. I'd rather have the proven commodity in Smoot, even if it is more expensive. Besides, we really cant afford to lose the locker room type leadership and personality that Smoot brings. I really hope we resign that guy and fast.

Daseal, I doubt we go after a QB early I don't see a rookie QB coming in and throwing the hitch pass, and 2yd out's better than Ramsey :banghead: , I have the same concern about William's as you but William's no matter how light he comes in is not going to out run DB's, the evaluation will have to be is this guy athletic enough to use his size to just dominate the defender's? I would have to see some more game film on him to be sure he know's how to use his body when going after a ball, I know he has hand's like fly paper something tell's me he is going to be a very unique player if used properly he could be a great jump ball reciever a lot like M. Erving but he's much bigger than Erving if he is capable of getting seperation off the line or out of his break's the guy will be unstopable, straight line speed is overated for reciever's quickness stopping, and starting, is more important that's where you seperate, perhap's a better comparison to William's is our own McCant's only William's is bigger, stronger, and better. Gardner should be traded or released he's not a guy who's going to help this team no sense in keeping him around.

I believe our first priority is center whether we address that need in the draft or FA, I think we should cut bait with Samuel's as well he's just not worth the money, offensive line is the key we have to eveluate it and see who's not getting the job done and fix it, then a big short yardage back, Portis has shown he want's no part of short yardage, WR sound's great but it really doesn't matter if were not going to throw downfield, I would't go out of my way for the defense early in the draft were fine Lavar will be back to help rush the QB next year, offensive line is the key.

I also like this kid Clemon's at LB I think we are going to see his role expand as time goes on, he has serious speed and look's very aggresive, I believe William's will start to find more way's to get him into the game.

smootsmack:

If the Skins don't re-sign Fred Smoot you have a double problem. You'll have to figure out how the team will replace him at DB AND you'll need a new screen name. Too bad Ade Jimoh Fan Club is already taken...

illdefined 12-15-2004 03:47 PM

we'll know exactly how much Joe Gibbs brings to the team by how many free agents come back, and how much they come back for.

Smoot, Samuels, Pierce...
