Potential Government Shut Down

I rarely come to this form but I know a lot of you are well versed on Govt affairs.

What is everyone's thoughts on the potential shut down?

Re: Potential Government Shut Down

I don't think a shutdown is going to happen. They just passed a two week stop gap to keep things rolling and Obama dispatched Biden to work with Republicans on the Hill to get a long-term budget proposal in place.

Re: Potential Government Shut Down

To early to tell what will happen 2 weeks from now. The Rep. seem set on making cuts and Obama seems set on spending so who knows if the two can come together. What people forget is this is because the dems never passed a budget last year. That probably is now working against them sense thay lost so many seats.

I'm looking forward to seeing gov employees getting paid to do no work for a few weeks.

I rather like seeing uncle sam pay his employees go on a few weeks of vacation on your dime. 400 million is nothing to ballers like him and I.

Re: Potential Government Shut Down

This shutdown is a little scary, especially if it becomes a prolonged thing (which I doubt.) While the govies typically get retroactive pay from the time missed, their contractor counterparts do not get that pay. Luckily it looks as if I'll be deemed 'essential personnel' but some of my fellow contractors won't be so lucky.

I had gone as far as to line up some part time work if the stoppage went over a week. Mainly just to keep me from getting bored at home...

hooskins 03-03-2011 07:39 AM

Highly doubt there will be a full shutdown. If no agreement is reached they usually extend the previous years budget.

Hooskins,

Ususally that is the case. But there seem to be some deep differences, especially in some of the new tea party members and may make passing CRs difficult.

I am going glass half full on this one, from what I heard it is likely to be pushed through.

It's not automatic. Congress has to pass legislation after the fact to pay employees missed pay while on furlough. They've always done it in the past, but it's not a given.

Doesn't matter; she'll get something which I'm happy for but this needs to be resolved. This game that politicians play pisses me off. Rich ass people who are out to keep other rich ass people happy while kicking me in the ass. Blows me. F'n blows me.

Pass the freaking bill already please.

The President and Congress are exempt from the shutdown due to how they're paid.

Re: Potential Government Shut Down

maybe they could all pledge to set their salary at $1 for a year if a budget deal isn't reached by the next extension?

This is not about bickering which we see all the time. Its about the new young bucks that ran on the promise to cut spending and the others that want to go status quo.

Good one.

If he wins again we will know who the bigger joke is, him or the sad sack of shit that is the republican party.
can you name one person from the GOP that can beat him?
Not sure who yet....shame Christie isn't running. Michelle Bachmann is a strong possibility. But with numbers like these as long as the GOP doesn't run Palin or Gingrich (negative opinions too high) there's a solid chance of regaining the WH in 2012.

Sure hope Bachmann doesn't run, agree about Christie. But those who would probably vote for Christie anyway are not a large contingency. Could be a VP candidate. He did make the finals of VP Madness (against Marc Rubio) on MittRomneyCentral.com

As for is there anyone who can beat President Obama? Well, it's still early. Past elections should have taught us that

Re: Potential Government Shut Down

Bachmann makes Palin look tame. Doubt she could even get the nomination let alone beat Obama. Right now I don't see a viable candidate, but as SS said it's early.

Re: Potential Government Shut Down

I want someone new who is not an insider but I don't think that will happen. The blame game is now starting from both side on this shut down. Is it really that hard to cut 100 billion from the budget. The right needs to concede on some of the corporate tax breaks (GE) "by the way F&^k GE and I will not buy any more of their products" and the dems need to concede on some of the other cuts.

Re: Potential Government Shut Down

This isn't about who is living in The House. It's about two sides that are not willing to care about the people they are supposed to be serving enough to cut the bullshit. When our country gave up on it's people and cared more about money than ever we started heading down tis slope. Some of you may feel it's this president who is at fault, I feel that he shoulders some of the blame. It's everyone that works down the street from where I do who is to blame. They all need to sit down and think about what they are doing to the american people.

The companies that are making money hand over fist yet they pay no taxes, give them a bill just like I get every paycheck and every year. Maybe that can help a little bit ?

What do I know, not too much but **** them all for the stress they are putting us through. All this standoff at High Noon bullshit is real childish.
