Off-season NON CBA things
The competition committee is meeting today, and here are a few interesting tweets:
Albert Breer Competition Committee proposing all scoring plays be reviewed automatically by replay assistant. Moving closer to college system. » Albert Breer Here's a big one: Competition Committee chair Rich McKay says proposal moving touchback LOS from the 20 to the 25 on the table. » Albert Breer NFL EVP of Football Ops Ray Anderson says league will be aggressive defending "defenseless players", says suspensions are in play. ----- Interesting options, I think I like the automatic replay on scoring plays. But, starting at the 25, don't give the offense any more yards for free. |
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
additional notes from various tweets:
Move KO back to 35 (combined with touchback change to 25 would render ST's almost meaningless I think) Remove all wedge blocking no re-seeding of playoffs (I am ok with that - win a division get a home game is ok by me) |
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
The Skins cheerleaders are in Iraq with the troops. Saw it on Redskins Nation this morning.
|
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
Isn't the KO at the 30 now? So, they actually want to move it forward? There are enough touchbacks as it is...
I agree with you CR, these rules would ruin special teams -- at least in regards to kickoffs. |
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
Horrible moves with kicking off from the 35 and moving a touchback to the 25.
|
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
Randy Moss is lobbying to go back to New England.
He also says his feelings were hurt when he was cut and traded. What a tool...... |
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
Well if they're going to keep preaching player safety, looking to reduce injuries on kickoffs is a way to start.
|
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
KO was at the 35 when the Skins were a power, maybe moving back is the key to our resurgence! :)
I think it was the early to mid 90s when it changed to the 30? |
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
Moving the kickoff basically eliminates the return game, one of the most exciting elements of the game. While it will reduce the number of injuries, moving touchbacks up 5 yards isn't going to compensate for the loss of game changing plays.
The more player safety related change is all players on the kickoff team must be within 5 yards of the ball so they aren't getting a 10-15 yard running start before the ball is kicked. |

But field position is such a critical part of the game. Take that option away on kick offs and you can hurt teams with good kick returners. |

No shit, BUT now we have one of the most exciting returners and we may not be able to use him? FML even when things go right for this team they turn out bad |
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
Nobody says you have to take the TB, run it out.

Unless it's kicked out of the back of the end-zone. |
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
I don't like the 25 yard line on touchbacks. Defenses are already under a lot of pressure and this will only make it worse.
|
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
Anyone know anything about the "wide 9" defense? Philly is going to be using it this year.

Moving it back to the 35 simply hurts teams with top return guys, plus it's hurts their value |
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
You know, kickoffs used to be from the 40 yard line! And then they were from the 35 during most of the 70s, 80s, and mid 90s.
|
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
^^^^I never knew that. I dont care where they kick the ball from this year as long as they are kicking it off.
|
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
Stop with the facts SS! Change is bad! Change is bad!

Wow so basically BB may be useless in Kick Coverage anymore! FML
|
Re: Off-season NON CBA things
Like I said in the other thread, Brian Mitchell made his living off of return kick-offs from the 35 yard line in his first few years of his career. I'm not sure why anybody would whine about this?
