Replacement Players
Sports Illustrated had a poll and found that 63% of the people polled said they WOULD watch NFL games with replacement players.
Everyone take a deep breath here. Things are still VERY far away from anything like "Replacement Games". But since there is nothing real to talk about with regard to the NFL at the moment while Judge Nelson is writing her ruling - - I have to think she has made up her mind by now and is simply crafting her decision into legal language - - why not pose the question here:
Would you watch NFL games if they used replacement players?
Before answering, remember what TV viewing options for sports on Sundays exist in the Fall: 1. MLB playoffs and World Series 2. Pac-12 MIGHT put a game of the week on Sunday this year 3. NASCAR 4. Golf 5. Bowling 6. Poker 7. Tennis 8. Rodeo 9. Fishing Personally, I would probably watch Replacement Games unenthusiastically because the alternatives are even less appealing. |
Re: Replacement Players
Why do people keep bring up Replacement players in this topic? You do realize this isn't the players striking, it's the owners locking out the players. There cannot be or will not be any replacement players during a lockout. It defeats the point of a owner lockout.
Also, sure we might watch games with replacement players, but would you still pay 5-10K on tickets, parking, etc to watch people with inferior talent? Hell no. They should ask these same people if they would pay the same amount in these polls. My guess is you'd have a shit ton of more people saying absolutely not rather than yes. |
Re: Replacement Players
UFL games may be on as well
|
Re: Replacement Players
The Replacements was on TBS last night. For the millionth time.

Re: Replacement Players
^ right NC Skins. I wouldnt watch scabs regardless...I wish to god everyone that has the NFL ticket or any NFL subscriptions would pick up their phone and cancel that sh*t and vote how they feel with there wallet. I really pissed in these tough economic times how selfish both sides have acted, Goodell IMO has been piss poor throughout the CBA bullsh*t

^^Preach on brother man.

Re: Replacement Players
I would watch replacement games on TV but as a season ticket holder and DTV Sunday Ticket subscriber...I would be VERY opposed to paying for them.
The NFL has already said that replacement players are not an option. |
Re: Replacement Players
I would watch but I would not worry about missing plays. I might even answer the phone during the game. It would be more like watching regular season basketball for me. I watch it, but I'm not glued to the tv.

Re: Replacement Players
I'm guessing a large majority of that 63% in favor aren't old enough to remember 1987 very well.
Personally I wouldn't watch and I definitely wouldn't pay for the Sunday Ticket to watch scrubs. |

Personally I wouldn't watch and I definitely wouldn't pay for the Sunday Ticket to watch scrubs.
I remember the 87 games. It was alright because it was kind of like theater, or watching a live news telecast because you want to see what happens, even though it ain't pretty. After a few games the novelty of that wears off though. It would be tough to sit through 16 games of it. |

16 games of it would be brutal. Pretty sure that would never happen though thankfully. I think people would tune in the first few games, but the ratings and attendance would drop off pretty sharply once people see the "quality" of these games is sorely lacking. |

In 87 it was about like watching the XFL cause those guys had little time to prepare & so many of them were just off the streets. I remember hearing stories from people afterwards like, 'my friend's a bartender down at such & such pub, but last month he was starting at TE for the Skins!' |

After about 4 games, I imagine the stadium would look something like this. |
Re: Replacement Players
It's kind of funny how people talk about not wanting to see replacement players in the NFL...yet at the same time you hear about how players are overpaid and overrated money grubbing bastards who get paid to play a game. "Try getting a job in the real world" I thought these guys were a dime a dozen?
|
Re: Replacement Players
I have already made plans to purchase my tickets as of May 1st. I haven't yet decided what to do in the event a decision is made to actually go with replacement players. In 1987 I did attend the games because I realized they were going to count in the standings regardless of who the players were. Had we not won those games it's likely we would not have won the SB that year either. I have plenty of time to decide.
ps/ I'll be refunded if games are cancelled. It's no biggie one way or the other. |

Let's be frank. Most average fans are idiots. I hate to be rude and even assholish about that point, but it's true. These are the same people that keep voting in the idiots that ruin our country and wonder why nothing changes. It's hard for the average person to relate to these guys situation. You know why they can't? Because they don't have that sort of leverage at their jobs or couldn't fathom having such talent. I said before I felt that most people spouting that stuff were doing so out of jealousy from their inability to command that type of money for having a talent they were born with. These people aren't easily (if at all) replaceable regardless of what we think. I mean, who should get the money out of selling millions of records? The record label or the artist? I say the artist. Without him, the record label would not even exist. I feel the same way about the NFL and the players. If people's beef with the players is that they make too much, then my suggestion to them is to lower the value of the market by stop attending games and watching on TV. That is a surefire way to decrease the value (revenue) of both the owners and players. |

I will not watch replacement players and I have cancelled my NFL gameticket. It is really time to send a message to these spoiled owners. Frankly I am tired of the owners whining about their split of $9 billion is not enough, but yet won't open the books all the way to prove it. All of this at a time when the value of the franchises are multiplying every year. Ultimately this is an ego thing on the part of the owners. Owners hold cities hostage on the threat of moving the team if they do not get a brand new state of the art stadium, these billionaire owners want more and more. The value of franchises is multiplying year after year. Shouldn't that be enough? If it is true there are a handful or more of owners that are cash poor, they need to sell your ****ing team and that will easily provide enough money for generations of their family to live off of. There are so many financially qualified people dying to buy an NFL team out there, but the existing owners that are cash poor do not want to sell because they want to remain being a famous NFL owner. Ego!. The players should not be asked to give money back. That is just stupid. Especially when there is a huge history of owners making millions while players like Joe Jocoby were making like $60,000 in his second or third year and being one of the top players at his position. What is the biggest insult is the only reason the owners will not open their books all the way is the wealthy owners do not want the small market onwers to see what they are making for fear of more revenue sharing amongst owners. So ultimately this is the reason we are in a lock out. Not because of the players. |

I would rather watch cricket. Congratulations to India for winning the world cup.

Hooray for India! Pakistan and Sri Lanka defeated! Sachin Tendulkar is da man! I'll be in India for most of May. My usual nightly entertainment will be Indian Premier League matches on tv. Go Rajasthan Royals! |
I got a new TV that has Internet connected to it so, every Sunday next year I will be watching YOUTUBE Sean Taylor Highlight clips for 3 hours at a time. Every single Sunday.

Re: Replacement Players
I'll watch, just like I watched them the first time. To me it's not so much about the talent level as it is equality amongst the teams. If all the teams are on similar footing and the talent level is equal then I'll watch. If a team is chocked full of Pro's and no one else is and the Pro's are tearing it up winning every game then it will be boring.
Besides it's alway kinda neat to look at those players and wonder if any will remain after the Pro's come back. |
Re: Replacement Players
I would without a doubt watch. Might give us a chance to win.

I've been to India several times and always drink bottled water. I never drink the tap water or anything which might contain tap water and this was true before the advent of this "superbug." India is a terrific place anyway. |

Re: Replacement Players
I know I am gonna get jumped on this one, I will not watch and I will not extend my DTV subscription. I guess i gotta ask this, when I don't get a very good raise should I go to the CEO and shareholders and ask them to open their books and show me why? Look if you wanna makes billions instead of millions then go buy a team. If you can't seem to make ends meet, THEN SELL SIX OF YOUR CARS AND BACK OFF YOUR INSURANCE PLAN. Oh bye the way, if you are really short on cash pull that $200,000 diamond out of your nose and sell it. Freaking Unions. This why I haven't turned on a baseball game in 1`5 years.

Well, I think you're probably making a lot of generalizations. But regardless, not sure that's quite what this discussion is about. Would you watch replacement players? |

yikes! the unions demanded this, and the owners rolled over and gave in. they are both are at fault. they cant even agree to collusion, because they know one of them will cave. both sides deserve equal blame here. and yes, i will watch replacements. because it will count. and i love the redskins, no matter who puts on that uniform |
