Ok, I know playoff talk is silly, but...

After the 1pm games, with a St. Louis loss, we'd be tied for 1 game back in the NFC playoff race behind Carolina, St. Louis and the winner of the Bucs/Saints game. I know it's far fetched and pathetic to even consider it, but at least the games still have some meaning as bad as it's been this year.

Gmanc711 12-19-2004 04:32 PM

Pathetic to even consider it is right!

Sadly, I'm in your boat and I have actually been rooting pretty hard for some of the teams we need to win.

Gmanc711 12-19-2004 04:40 PM

btw.....
Cardinals 10
Rams 0 1st

SmootSmack 12-19-2004 04:53 PM

Of course, the problem is we're competing with the Cardinals as well. It'd be nice if they would just go away. Just think where they could be if they had stuck with McCown for the whole season instead of experimenting with King and Navarre.

Yeah, but we have tiebreakers over Arz due to in conference record.......

..... I cant belive I'm "that guy" considering all this b.s.

la73hof 12-19-2004 05:15 PM

The Redskins would be the best option by far of all the 5-8, 6-7 or 7-7 teams in the NFC.

heybigstar 12-19-2004 05:26 PM

st. louis is about to lose to arizona... they gotta play Philly next monday night,
so im putting them to 6-9, then they could go 6-10., i think we have tb over them anyway... the winner of the bucs saints game will be 6-8, they will play carolina plays the two teams the following weeks and needs to lose to one of those teams... so after week 15, we could end up looking kinda close.. but i remember we had playoff talk before the philly game it got shutdown with a loss to them...

Gmanc711 12-19-2004 05:28 PM
The Redskins would be the best option by far of all the 5-8, 6-7 or 7-7 teams in the NFC.
I agree, or the Panthers. I think those two teams would be the best suited to actually be able to compete, although I dont think anyone would be able to make a serious SuperBowl run. Really, no team with a losing record should be in the playoffs, but this happens every now and then. If my some miracle it benifits the Redskins, I'm all for it!

aehs77 12-19-2004 05:37 PM

come on we really have to stop doing this to ourselves

Common, its just not an NFL season without a few of these! :dallas:

MTK 12-19-2004 05:47 PM

Playoff talk is a little silly, but until we're officially eliminated what the hell.

Gmanc711 12-19-2004 05:50 PM

It is silly, but it really isnt THAT far fetched.....

If this happens today, New Orleans over TB and Arz over St.L
AND
This happens next week, Washington over Dallas, Philly over St.L, TB over Car and Atl over NO.....

We own the last wildcard spot!!!

NO and TB are tied 7-7 and ARZ is up on St.L 17-7. So both of those can go our way, look at next week. The only one that would really be a huge upset would be TB over Car!!! :dallas:

Ok so let's just say the gods smile on us and somehow we sneak in. We would likely face the winner of the horrible NFC West, the Rams or the Seahawks. Not a bad first round game at all.

Ok I'm done now, back to reality.

Then you know where were going back to if all that happend.... BACK TO PHILLY!!!

Hell Matty, should I order us a couple of Superbowl Tickets??

CRT3 12-19-2004 06:31 PM

Thank the heavens it is still possible. At least we are starting to Peak so if we get into the playoffs (Jansen returns also) it is quite possible to run the board and get to the big game. :headbange

Okay, so what happens now that AZ took STL and NO lost to TB?

Gmanc711 12-19-2004 06:46 PM

I'll explain the perdiciment after the games are complteded. The Arz/Stl game appears over, but the NO/TB game is just getting interesting.

Gmanc711 12-19-2004 07:17 PM

LOL!! I cant belive I'm the guy thats gonna be the one to break it down here, but here it is!

The Skins can overtake the wildcard spot next week, with the follwing things happening.....

Washington Redskins Win @ Dallas Cowboys
Cincinati Bengals(home) Win vs New York Giants
Tampa Bay Buccaneers win @ Carolina Panthers
Atlanta Falcons win @ New Orleans Saints
Philedalphia Eagles win @ St. Louis Rams

If those five things happen next week, we will, LOL, control our own destiny to get into the playoffs. And really, you have to think Cinci is the favorite vs NYG, Atlanta is the favorite vs New Orleans, the Eagles could put their pee wee squad out and beat St. Louis. I think we'll be favored vs Dallas, but that means nothing in this rivalry.
So really the only stretch is Tampa Bay beting Carolnia (Panthers won the first contest 21-14 in Tampa Bay).

I've said it before, I'll say it again, no 7-9 team should make it into the playoffs. However, if its the Redskins, I'll take it. There is defintley hope.

Daseal 12-19-2004 07:20 PM

Gmac - assuming that happens next week, do we NEED anyone to lose in order for us to make it? Or just us beating the Vikes. Assuming one of those teams we need to win loses, for example the bucs, are we still eliminated or just need another blend of fortunate events?

Gmanc711 12-19-2004 07:25 PM

If what I wrote happens next week, we control our own desinty.

The only way we are eliminated next week is by:
A Redskins Loss OR A Panthers Win AND A Saints Win.

joecrisp 12-19-2004 07:29 PM

This is all absolutely, positively crazy...

and yet-- tantalizingly-- all too possible.

Talk about parity! The NFC is ridiculous!

Paintrain 12-19-2004 07:39 PM

Let me apologize for feeding the monster by starting this thread.. I was just bored because the Redskins weren't on.. Gmanc711, thanks for the breakdown, that's just crazy that we could actually have a somewhat legitimate chance at the wildcard thanks to the NFC sucking this year.

Gmanc711 12-19-2004 07:44 PM

I am a monster. I have so much stuff going through my head right now!!

WE WANT DALLAS!

wolfeskins 12-19-2004 07:51 PM

if only gibbs would have pulled brunell earlier in the year.

Can you get guys off IR when the playoffs start?

CRT3 12-19-2004 08:06 PM

Yes We can activate once we are into the playoffs

Gmanc711 12-19-2004 08:24 PM

Could you imagine? As early as last night I would still have thought this was unthinkable. But its far fetched but extremley realistic.

JWsleep 12-19-2004 08:35 PM

So, the game in Dallas really IS our Superbowl.

WE MUST BEAT DALLAS!!!!!!

drew54 12-19-2004 08:35 PM

We are the only NFC team that can beat Philly. It is our destiny, just like Frodo and the ring.

aehs77 12-19-2004 09:27 PM

if the skins make the playoffs i dont care where it is im going to game one

aehs77 12-19-2004 09:37 PM

we would also make the playoffs if the eagles plane were to crash with everyone in the organization on it.

skinsfan0201 12-19-2004 10:23 PM

Hey what the heck it is done in most other sports

They have always done this in the past in the playoffs and it benefits the Redskins so why not. In addition, as someone else said who is hopefully one of the better suited and playing teams in the NFL right now?

kingerock 12-19-2004 11:38 PM

i think the light is coming on on Skins fansites all over the net. You can find posts like this elsewhere now!

I would love to see the Reskins in the Playoffs but please hold the lame humor for another site. Trash talking should be fine but this attempt seems to be a poor taste in judgement. PLEASE REFRAIN FROM @)%*$ LIKE THIS

FRPLG 12-20-2004 08:56 AM

schedulizing again like i did two games ago...i was right then that if we won out we'd make the playoffs which we would have if we'd have beaten the feebles.
NFC East
*yz-Philadelphia 13 1 15 1
Washington 5 9 7 9
Dallas 5 9 6 10
N.Y. Giants 5 9 5 11

NFC North
x-Green Bay 8 6 10 6
Minnesota 8 6 8 8
Detroit 5 9 7 9
Chicago 5 9 5 11

NFC South
yz-Atlanta 11 3 13 3
Carolina 6 8 7 9
New Orleans 6 8 7 9
Tampa Bay 5 9 6 10

NFC West
Seattle 7 7 8 8
St. Louis 6 8 6 10
Arizona 5 9 5 11
San Francisco 2 12 2 14

notes....
minnesota has to lose out(to us and GB)
st louis must lose out(to philly and jets)
arizona and giants must lose out(which is probably expected)
it comes down to carolina and new orleans
i have them each going 1-1 in the next two weeks
next week they play TB and Atl respectively. I am putting a win for Car and a loss for NO.
The week after they play each other. If NO can win then we sneak(undeservingly) into the playoffs.

Not as far fetched as you might think. I was straight up about who would win games and it basically comes down to about 7 teams. Of those 6 other teams we beat 3 in a h2h tie breaker straight up. that leaves Car, NO, StL. Even if we tie with them (at 7-9)then it goes to % in conference. If STL wins at philly then they end up 7-5 in conf, NO/Car has to play out exactly like i have said or it is impossible. If it does then they are 6-6 and 5-7 in conf and we are tied with Stl on conf w-l record. Next tie breaker is best w-l record in common games which i am not even going to try and figure out right now.

CRT3, I don't think there was a suggestion that the poster wanted this to happen, just a statement of possibility.

CrazyCanuck 12-20-2004 04:37 PM

Thanks to Gmanc and all for the standings analysis.

It's official - I'm on the Redskins Playoff Bandwagon!!!!!!!!!!!
