 Us open starts today

Well the open starts and without no Tiger Woods. While I'm not a fan of Tigers I really miss when he is not there because the Tiger factor makes golf more interesting. I'm a Phil fan so I hope he can win his first US Open but its not going to be easy. I'm guessing one of the top players who have not won a major will get their first this week. Here is a link to the coverage.

My money is on Rory McIlroy.

 Re: Us open starts today

I would not bet against Rory. The long knockers have a good advantage at this Open because the rough is not as high as they have had it for most Us Opens.

Uh oh. I heard Chris Berman is the commentator for the Open.

I just hope that a U.S. citizen wins. It would be nice to see one of the "Golf Boys" do it. Then they could follow up the trophy presentation with an encore performance.

So far thats a great pick but we cannot forget what he did on Sunday at the Masters. |

 Re: Us open starts today

I was there all day yesterday with some colleagues from work. We had VIP parking and Trophy Club access. What a great freaking time. We walked 3 holes with Phil/McIlroy/D.Johnson, 2 with Jiminez/Sergio/Quiros, 3 with Westwood/Donald/Kaymer, 3 with Harrington/Cabrera/Cink, and 2 with Immelman/Z.Johnson/Schwartzel, and 1 with A.Scott/Bubba/Karlsson.
Congressional CC is in great shape, and we had a blast. Plenty of cold beer and good food. I was about 3 feet from Phil on his second shot on 11. Pretty cool, and the best part was my boss put everything on the black Amex, so I didn't spend a dime. |

Oh I remember, I had him picked to win there too. Implosion. |

Maybe it's because I watched him live yesterday, or maybe it's just a hunch, but I have a really good feeling that Rory won't implode like he did at Augusta. Watching him put right now for a 10-stroke lead.... |

 Re: Us open starts today

Well, another birdie for Rory. He's now tied with Tiger Woods for the most shots under par ever during a US Open. And he's 22. Kid has silly game.

 Re: Us open starts today

18 is chewing up Rory and Phil right now. Phil's play has been pretty disappointing the past two days.
This hole is the first sign so far that McIlroy is human. Haha. |

 Re: Us open starts today

Yeah Rory lit it up but brought it home pretty crappily there. Gotta wonder how the triple on 18 will hang on him and whether it'll effect him going into tomorrow. Especially if the course is playing hard and he gets to watch a lot of guys get punked early on.

	I thought it was a double on 18? |

I had a guy call Monday to go yesterday and if it would have been anyone else I would have gone. I know the guy through work and just could see myself spend 6 hours in the car with him going to and from the event. |

What a show he put on. I remember years back watching another young golfer that put on a performance like that. Can anyone guess who that was? I kept watching for RM to come back to the group but it never happened. |

 Re: Us open starts today

Glad to see RORY deliver after that.....disaster at the Masters. Seems like a nice....deserving winner. I like happy endings.
Kid can flat ass hit the ball! |

 Re: Us open starts today

I was out at the tournament Friday and I gotta say the USGA did a piss poor job setting up the course. The ruff was not that high. On top of that, as the scores were getting pretty low, they moved the tees up Sat. on several holes. This isn't a regular tour event and par is supposed to be protected. Although the course was longer than it was in 97 the course was played much tougher 14 years ago.

You have to think the rain slowed the course down. They didnt water the course at all. |

I think it seemed WAY too easy. It wasn't the challenge it usually is. However, Rory embarrassed the field...won by 8. Congrats, man...made me look like a genius for a day. :D |

The rain made it much easier for the players to hit the fairway not having to worry about it running through the fairway into the rough. The rough was probably set up that way because they figured that would be an issue and more players would be playing from the rough. |

 Re: Us open starts today

The rain certainly helped out the players but I was still surprised at how light the ruff was. They should've known that it would rain so the usga should've grown it out more. And moving up the tees on Sat was just ridiculous. Rory still would've won but that was not what I call a typical US Open.

Yeah, usually, the players complain about the course...heard nothing this year.
