So the Winnipeg Jets have officially returned and it looks like they'll be joining the Caps in the...Southeast Division

Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
Glad the Jets name is being allowed back. There was some uncertainty if the new Winnepeg franchise would be legally allowed to use the Jets name since it was owned by the Phoenix Coyotes (original Jets moved to Phoenix)...this new franchise is the Atlanta Thrashers. However, the NHL took over the Coyotes, so the league now had control of the copyrights and name rights.
Good move by the league...much better than "promoting" the name of the Manitoba Moose from the AHL, which seemed to be the likely scenario without being allowed to be the Jets again. |

Holy crap. Joel Ward, Roman Hamrlik, Halpern, Varly for a 1st and 2nd, not to mention Troy Brouwer.
They're probably going to try to move Fehr, Schultz, Poti, and maybe Semin or Green. |

NHL starting free agency at Noon, instead of Midnight like other sports, is brilliant

Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
Apparently, Fatty is thinking of pairing Green and Hamrlik. Wise move. Green might actually look like a legit Norris canidate thanks to his potential "silent partner" doing all the little things right. After all, it worked for James Wisniewski and Dion Phaneuf.

Question for you. Why is it ESPN ignores the NHL? You know the opening of SC? they show ever champion from the past year but no Bruins, kind of lame. |

I don't know what you're talking about with the Bruins. I personally saw a lot of footage of their victory parade on the Sportscenter. The funny thing is even though throughout the course of the year the NHL is underrepresented it seems to be a favorite sport to cover among many of the anchors "Bartender get me something on ice." I guess part of it is self promotion. It's why on College Football Live analyst all to often will go off on long winded sidebars about how great the SEC is. Why virtually all the topics on First Take, PTI, Sportsnation, and Around the Horn mostly center around sports you see on ESPN like the NBA, College Basketball/football, Baseball, NFL, Tennis, Nascar. Then again they also seem to ignore many sports they actually cover (on their flagship programs) like softball, "poker", Lacrosse, college baseball, WNBA, Worlds Strongest Man, etc. The other part of it is the NHL still sort of qualifies as a niche sport. I'd guess that more people have heard of Ron Artest then Nicklas Lindstrom or Chris Pronger. However I think if the TV deal with ESPN would have gone through you would have seen more stories on Sportscenter and more talking points on the debate shows. It's a giant conspiracy about the zionist and Israel, the liberal media, and the Illuminati consipring with the Roswell Aliens and Al Queda. But yeah for now ESPN only really talks about the NHL when they have to. It's why you see topics on every little thing going on in the NBA and only the big things in the NHL. |

Good win to start off the season for the Caps last night. It was nice to see Alexander Semin put one in on the breakaway, and Greenie came up big in OT after we killed their penalty.

Damn! That would make the SE a much stronger division, in terms of competition between the Wings, Caps, and Lightning. But why the Southeast? In terms of geographic location Detroit isn't really SE. |

and winnipeg is? |
and winnipeg is?
No, Winnipeg isn't. Slipped my mind there. We have to know there's gonna be at least a couple teams moving around as a result of the Thrashers moving to Winnipeg. But Detroit to the SE, and Winnipeg to the Central? That's lame. I pretty much agree with this post on Puck Daddy. All they need to do is put the Jets in the Pacific, move the Stars to the Central, and move Nashville to the SE. Puts 3 teams in their proper division and solves the realignment problem. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
Detroit has done its part building up the Western Conference for over a decade. they've earned the right to have their "promise" upheld and return East
Detroit has done its part building up the Western Conference for over a decade. they've earned the right to have their "promise" upheld and return East
Yeah, true. Well what if they moved Detroit to the SE, Jets to the Pacific, and Stars to the Central? Honestly I think the whole conferences need realignment, since Columbus should go to the East and maybe Nashville as well. Columbus should be in the same division as their geographic rival in Pittsburgh. Dallas doesn't belong in the Pacific either, and Detroit is obviously first in line when it comes to moving back to the East. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
Any move to steal Oven Chicken's team's overrated thunder is a-ok in my books. Detroit better move to the SE.

Re: Washington Capitals 2011-2012 Ongoing Thread
3 games, 3 wins after the end of regulation. Once we got that PP in overtime, I just knew it was game over. Always nice to beat the Pens, even if they didn't have Marc Andre or Sid.

I concur. I was like, well if there ever was an opportune time for a pp it's in overtime. Also I feel like having Wideman in the lineup is a good thing. We really could've used him in the playoffs against TB. Also one more mention I know it's only 3 games but I love what RomN Hamrlik brings to the table on the pk and d. |

Surprisingly indeed. Last nights game was really good, what a goaltending match it turned out to be until the third period. I'm liking the new additions to the team so far. |

Well I won't speak for others, but for me I don't particularly want to get too excited about the regular season. Because we've had a couple of dominant regular seasons only to falter in the playoffs. So if we're not playing in at least the conference finals, I'll consider this season another disappointment |
