Quiz: What American accent do you have?
Learning Spanish so I've been reading up on accents and came across this quiz. Post your results.
What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Inland North You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."
|
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
This quiz blows......
Its says I'm from either Philly, Baltimore or Jersey. I've lived in the Grand Rapids, Chicago area since 1973. |
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
I came in at Midland, but South was a close second. not bad
|
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
Midland...basically no accent.
|
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
Loud and proud, baby.
Your Result: Philadelphia Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.
|
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
How about the word "water".
Most in the country say the first vowel the same way a doctor would say open up and say "ahhh". Not Philly. We say wooter. We're weird. And we're assholes. Sorry! |
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
LOL it says im North Central. I have no idea where that came from.....
Your Result: North Central "North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot. |
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
Southern Redneck.
|
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
It's just like in the word "whore."
What American accent do you have? Your Result: The Midland "You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.
Philly accent second, makes sense since I've lived in PA almost 3 decades since moving from MD. No real accent is accurate because I like to pronounce everything properly, intentionally. Good voice for radio? Yep, I have been the voice of a phone system before (recorded the greeting/menu system/options for my company once). |
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
The Inland North...yeah, i've never lived anywhere near Chicago or Wisconsin.

Funny I was also Inland North. I did spend two week in Chicago in 1994 so maybe thats why. LOL |
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
The Inland North...yeah, i've never lived anywhere near Chicago or Wisconsin.
Same here. I've lived in Murrland, from All-neey, to Sal's-Bury, to Bahlmur. If anything I think that when I've had too much to drink or not enough sleep I drag out my Os or add Ws to them. But I definitely have never had someone tell me I sound like I'm from Chicago or Wisconsin.

Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
Thankfully, Boston was at the bottom of my list. I think that could be THE WORST accent in the nation, almost the world...down there with the French phlegm-speak.
Also, ever notice how many British women sound great when they speak, but the British men sound annoying? I even had a British woman voice on my GPS for a while, until she started mispronouncing too many street names. |
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
Lots of the Philly thing going on, that's where it put me too. Midland was second. I grew up in MD, in Mont. County.
|
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
Inland north for me too? I'm from Appalachia, pure bred hill jack. I've lived all across the country except the great white north.
|
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
The south, but I swear that I do not have a southern accent or any accent at all.
|
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
Everyone has an accent Angry. What you deem as "no accent" is viewed as an accent from another perspective.
|
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
Inland North? Um, nope. Born and raised in DC.

He probably just copied pasted it from the theme song to Fresh Prince of Bel Air. |
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
I think mines was accurate. I lived my first 7 years in DC but then moved to Chicago before I turned 8 so it's no surprise that my accent, or lack thereof, could be traced back to the Midwest seeing as how during ages 8 to 13 your voice is still developing. I actually had a 6 year old cousin that lived in England for two years, had a British accent, and then lost it when he came back to the states.

Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?

I know it's the theme to the Fresh Prince, I'm just hoping he didn't really sit there and type the whole thing out. |

You would have free time if you didn't give them gays special privileges to slack off and parade around town |
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
I grew up around Chicago and really don't sound like I'm from there at all...so I graded out as Midland. And as of three years ago, I started to become able to tell the difference.

You thought it was the theme song to Good Times. No need to be embarrassed common mistake. |

It was kind of a play on this hooskins. I am not that naive.
Your Result: The South That's a Southern accent you've got there. You may love it, you may hate it, you may swear you don't have it, but whatever the case, we can hear it.
Regardless of what this says I do not have that deep of a southern accent. I just annunciate American English. |
Re: Quiz: What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland
Philly, The Inland North and the South were all pretty close as well. |

Sorry!
I work with a woman from the Philly area and she says "water" very weirdly. She says the first syllable as she's going to say "wood" and then REALLY emphasizes the 't' in the second part.
woo-Ter
I agree. |
