Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
Dammit.
Nnamdi Asomugha agrees to five-year, $60 million deal with Philadelphia Eagles, source says - ESPN |
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
OK, that is bad news. Great pickup for them; crap news for the rest of us.
|
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
The one year we don't go for the big name signings, we let our division rivals get the good players. Dallas is on the verge of getting Cullen Jenkins since they lost out on Nnamdi. Double whammy.
|
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
Well crap
|
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
The NFC is back, folks (with the Redskins as the possible exception). I cannot imagine anyone relishing the prospect of playing teams in our division.
|
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
Rodgers-Cro, Samuel and Nnamdi? Yeah, that's what I call a lock down secondary.
|
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
Dam, I HATE THE COWBOYS as much as the next DIEHARD Redskin fan, but I'd almost rather he went there instead of Philly. Atleast the cowboys are garbage. Philly has a ****in SQUAD. Note to the FO, sign the best FA WR that's available IMMEDIATELY.......My best friend who is an Eagles fan was going apesh-t over Cromartie, his head is going to explode when he finds out they got Asoumugha......F-CK!!!!!!
|
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
Looks like we'll have a rematch between Philly and New England in the Superbowl this year.
|
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
Samuel trade to AZ? But for whom? Streets is talkin'!
|
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
Saw the news while out to dinner at hooters (national wing day- wings half off) I couldn't even finish my wings. Horrible news. It sounds like he took a lot less then he could have gotten to sign w them. The only thing that i like about the eagles is that they have never won a championship. I hate them more then any other team. Let's hope the pats don't cut hansworth and then he goes signs with them too................
|
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
The can't keep all 3 corners, Samuel is probably going to get dealt.
|
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
im just a tad bit upset that it only took 12 mil a year, and we didnt pull the trigger on that. especially since we HAVE to spend a definite amount, i just think that an elite talent like him, who rarely comes around, is worth 12 mil a year. we have the room, very disturbing, very confusing.
maybe he walked away from 2 or 3 mil per year on the table, but who in the hell could do that? lol |
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
Wow that sucks for rest of the division. If Vick stays healthy (and they get D-Jack signed), Philly is gonna run away with the division.
|
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
omg, we need to sign bigtime WR
|
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
Samuel is probably gone but that doesn't mean that secondary will be any less hard to deal with. Sigh. And the strong keep getting stronger.
|
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
The silver lining in this signing (trying to be optimistic here): The Eagles will cut him abruptly regardless of play on his 30th birthday. If the Cowboys had signed him he would have played well into his 40s....

In Mother Russia, you don't sign bigtime receiver, bigtime receiver sign you. |

He's 30 years old. |
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
damn. just kidding. so much for the silver lining.

I guess the bright side is at least we didn't try to convince a player that was at least 30 years old to sign here based on past exploits. /Views film of Asomugha shutting down receivers like it's going out of style. Oh damn. |

Yeah, he gave the Eagles the "contender discount." You have to be a contender to get the discount though. |

beat me to it, for some guys it's not all about the money, and from all acounts i have heard about him, he is one of those guys, he just wants to win |
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
So much for rebuilding eh? The ghost of Vinny continues to haunt too many here.

Honestly though when a player signs for less money then he could have gotten elsewhere like houston or maybe dc its usually the type of player you really want but can only get if your team is in contention. It would be nice to have him, but he would only sign with us if it was just about the money to him. Fortunately we can play a role in making sure he retires as a great cb that never got a ring! |

I applaud the 'Skins moves to date. And we're more than a 30 year old stud CB away from contending for a SB. But damn if this doesn't make me jealous. That guy is smart, well spoken, and a TREMENDOUS team and character guy. Of all the stars in the NFL, he's got to be the least likely to punk out. Stupid Eagles. |

Yeah for every two people who are complaining we didnt get him, there would be four people complaining had we signed him because we arent building through the draft. |

Well, tbh, my first impulse when I heard of the Eagles signing Nnamdi was that we need to go out and get a big time wideout to counteract that. Now that my thought process is returning to rational levels, it's still kinda hard to get used to the fact that we aren't in that mode anymore, that we need to be content to fill holes with young solid players with plenty of upside. Now that Nnamdi is with the Eagles, I look at it kind of like a perfect match. They were already a contender, and one of their biggest weaknesses was just addressed by signing a guy perfect for their system. The Eagles will be able to put him in plenty of man to man situations, and they'll be able to do so many things with him out there shutting down half the field. But had he signed here, I would've had my doubts about how he would fit into our system. We don't go man to a man a lot, and who knows, Asomugha might be just as good in zone as he is in man to man, but from what I've seen of him, the Raiders' coaching staff knew how to use him and make him most effective by keeping him in man to man most of the time. I think over time this will end up being a good thing for this franchise, that we didn't sign him, but you can't help but think of how much better the Eagles just got. I guess I'm just going to console myself by saying we are on the rebuilding path this year, and that's what we need to be content doing so that we can be better in the long run. The moves that we've made this offseason indicate we're not gearing up for a run in the short term, like the Eagles are. So let them contend this year, hopefully they'll end up failing. |
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
Note to Redskins: Sign Malcolm Floyd, cut some of these garbage receivers. Floyds had success on Nnamdi in the past.

If a big time wr signs w us it will be all about the money, not the oustanding oppertunity to work with John Beck. Continueing building, one day players will come to us for the right reasons. |

Each time I see a fan say SIGN (insert big name FA), I want to reach through my PC and slap the shit out of them and remind them of the past decade. Should go something like this. [YT]i0GW0Vnr9Yc[/YT] You'd think they've seen enough to never want to touch another big ticket FA again, but much like your example, the battered spouse continues going back and doing the only thing they know. This is how you know Dan Snyder is truly a fan. He's just like many of these guys up here (and other forums). Trade X pics for Orton and sign Nnamdi, Jenkins, Holmes and Yanda!! GET IT DONE!! Never mind the fact it would destroy our cap to come and if it didn't work, we'd be screwed for about 5-6 years. |

Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
I am impressed with what the Eagles FO has done in the last couple of years. They are the NFC version of New England. They get draft pick after draft pick all while picking up serious talent. Getting a 2nd rounder and DOmnique Cromartie for Kolb.

Yes you can. Things feel painfully unfunny now that the Eagles have him, but at least you tried. |

.
Really, we are just fortunate that Andy Reid is a dipshit when it comes to play calling and horrible at clock management. Otherwise, he'd probably have a few SB rings by now. |

They'll be better this year. But hopefully we'll be just good enough to spoil their party a bit. I'd love to see us steal a couple from them and make them go on the road to Lambeau or Atlanta. |

Cooley and Davis all day against their LBs. They can't cover squat. Now, about that Michael Vick character... |
