Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
I thought this deserved it's own thread. Per Adam Shefter, Skins traded DE Vonnie Holliday and a late round conditional pick for the 25 yr. old Hightower.
Hightower avg 4.8 yds per carry last season. |
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
wow, what the hell. Didnt give up much.
|
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
I just asked Grant Paulsen (local beat reporter) if he liked the deal. He responded: Not sure of his role. But initially, yes. I like getting younger/ more competitive at as many spots as possible.
|
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
Another interesting factoid: Hightower is respected for pass-protecting skills. Only 13 #NFL RB's stayed in backfield to block more than his 119 times in 2010.
|
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
I like the move. He immediately becomes our most versatile RB. Vonnie Holiday is a good dude but he's about done. 25 yr old Hightower for a guy with one year left and a late draft pick.

Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
Bradshaw surely ain't coming for a visit now,is he?
|
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
He can be what Keiland would've been at tailback, but probably better, not sure on his pass pro though
Can probably push for starting role |
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
Out with the very old, in with the new. I like this trade. We basically get a 25 year old productive RB for peanuts. Thanks Arizona!
|
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
Good deal, I gotta say.. I always have liked him, he's not all downs back but he plays good. We probably traded away a pick that we got from Patriots or Vikings. But damn, I wonder who will be man out from the crowd that is already crowded.

Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
Hightower scored 10 touchdowns during his rookie season, and another 3 in the post season while averaging a meager 2.8 yards per carry. He would rush for a total amount of 399 yards in 2008. Hightower would then become the only Cardinal rookie running back ever to have scored a touchdown in each of his first two games with the franchise. Evetually, he whould go on to score 10 regular season touchdowns (13 including the playoffs), setting a cardinals rookie record. He would score the winning touchdown for the Arizona Cardinals in their last drive of the 2008 NFC Championship Game to propel the Arizona Cardinals to Super Bowl XLIII (the Arizona Cardinals' first).
In the 2009 regular season, despite exactly the same number of carries (143) he was able to improve his previous 399 yards to 598 yards, an improvement which brought his yards per carry up to a solid 4.2. Hightower would begin the season well by getting a 80-yard rushing touchdown in a game against the Atlanta Falcons. Hightower would get injured during a game against the Seattle Seahawks and would not be able to play in the following game. Hightower was traded on July 31, 2011 to the Washington Redskins in exchange for defensive end Vonnie Holliday and a 5th round draft pick in 2012. |

good to hear |
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
Nice signing. A receiving threat out of the backfield and as previously mentioned the most versatile back on the roster now.
|
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
if he comes out of camp uninjured, hightower will be the starting qb week 1.

He isn't THAT versatile. |

Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
University of Richmond product, nice to have a Spider on the 'Skins again!
|
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
I forgot to say that I really like this trade, but I'm very curious who is gonna be on the opening day roster now.

Torain Hightower Helu Jr. Royster (possibly) |

Hey. you stole my funny post a few back! lol |
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
LOL.....whay would you trade for an old bird like Vonnie Holiday. I thought he was a player coach.
|
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
Torain
Hightower Helu Jr. Royster (possibly)
I don't think we will be able to carry 4 on roster, so I would have to guess that Royster will end up on practice squad. |
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
Turn an aging depth player we got from FA into a potentially useful and young RB. Not a bad move at all.
|
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
Hightower isn't that good, but he'll probably start here until Helu is ready. We essentially just have him on a one-year rental because he's UFA after the year.
I can't imagine that Hightower's impact on the offense will be greater than Vonnie's impact on the defense would have been. But this team isn't going anywhere, and this move knocks the average age of our team down a notch (my favorite meaningless stat!) Nice knowing you, Ryan Torain. |

Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
About a week ago I posted a reply in our FA thread stating I thought we should sign D Williams and a few big posters stated "we have so and so RBs on our depth chart" and responded viciously. Its OBVIOUS now that Shanny was feeling... the fact that none of our RBs are anywhere near what other teams have. Keiland Willams and James Davis just won't cut it fellas.
I still think we shoulda nabbed D Will and now were on Hightower. As for Hightower... he's really not that bad. And I'm glad we got him. I like Keiland Williams.. but he's just not what we need. Hightower has big play capabilities.. and that's what I felt we needed from RB |
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
GTripp,
If there is a signing the majority of people on the Warpath like or approve of, you come up with something negative about the signing. If the majority hates the signing of a player you come up with something positive to say. I noticed that alot................Lol So in saying that, you bring down when i like the signing but in return you get me excited about the signing when i dont like it! |
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
I compare Hightower to Marion Barber, a tough nose guy that is not afraid to run between the tackles, great move as far as I'm concerned.
|
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
So Hightower will beat out Rex and Beck? Nice
Maybe he's thinking of Reno Hightower from the Taft Rockets. He did throw a he'll of a pass to Jack Dundee to defeat the Bakersfield Tigers ! |
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
Like the move. Very underrated RB. Young, hard runner, who can pass block, catch, and has speed to break a long one. I've always felt he can be a good starting caliber RB, and now he has that chance; Giving up Holliday, who was expendable, and a 5th.
Great Move |
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
most of u guys bitch and moan about everything .....its a good move, and not giving up anything to get him.
|
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
So this is the veteran RB they've been talking about adding it seems. I heard trade in the works with Arizona this morning and I actually thought it was for Max Hall
|
I was going to say that about Royster... You think he makes it over Torain?
I'm not sure either makes it. Gun to my head right now, I think:
RB + FB Hightower Helu Keiland Darrel Young Royster passes through waivers to the PS. Even so, I would bet the over on 15 carries for Royster this season. |

This guy ain't Adrian Peterson, but he should step right in and play a very significant role and pick up where Clinton Portis did in pass pro. Gonna have to disagree with you on that one. But we'll see when he hits the field. |

Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
The redskins have had an amazing offseason
|
Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.
I'm fine with the pickup. Let's get this thing together for the long haul. Some of these guys won't be here when Shanny is holding up the Lombardi but I'm gonna enjoy the ride!
