Redskins Resign Jamaal Brown

Nice. He was getting better as the year closed out. I like this player in our scheme.

Good. With the extra time he's had to heal he should be better than last year. RT solved.

I still hope we add another guard.

Re: Redskins Resign Jamaal Brown

A move we expected.. I wonder if we are done with O-line yet? I still want us to add a guard that could come in to compete for the spot, that is unless coaches like Hicks enough not to sign anyone else.

Re: Redskins Resign Jamaal Brown

Better then Harris in my opinion. Brown has been a top 5 tackle in years past and was one of our better run blockers this past year. On top of that even though he was hurt most of the year he still played 14 games. Harris had 11 games last year and 8 the year before. At this rate Harris might as well be the guy on the wrong side of 30 when compared to Brown.

One thing I think I've noticed though about the coaching staff is they are bending over backwards for consistency on the line, buying into the school of thought that lines need time to gel.

Re: Redskins Resign Jamaal Brown

We couldn't have done much better than this at RT. I don't see Jammal Brown as a longterm solution. But he's the best player who would have played right tackle for the Redskins this year.

Now they need to go out and get a 27 something year old tackle to back up at two positions.

Ryan Harris
Mario Henderson
Charlie Johnson

Or Heyer, I suppose.

Every one of those players: nothing but zone blocking schemes their entire careers. Exceptions: Heyer '07, and Harris the last two years.

Re: Redskins Resign Jamaal Brown

Per GP: Just got off the phone with Jammal Brown. Says even though he still feels more comfortable at LT, he re-signed to stay on the right side.

...says playing for Mike Shanahan was main sticking point: "I like playing for a coach who's won a Super Bowl."

....said he wanted to come back to the #Redskins to work with two fellow Oklahoma products now: Trent Williams and Chris Chester.

Brown's health: "I feel good. I’ve been working out. Can’t wait to get on the field. Hip feels good. I want to play football."

Harris as a backup? Now that would be something. Still I feel like the Bears will get him to start, or at least the Lions. Remember the Lions played all three QB's (Stafford, Hill, and Stanton) due to injuries. In fact there was a point in the Giants-Lions game where Stafford (dressed for absolute emergencies) thought he was about to go back in because Stanton got hurt after coming in for Hill who was knocked out of the game.

I think we will probably draft another RT in the second to third round in a year or two.

Denver, I think, is trying to go in a different direction and will part ways. But outside of them...Kansas City, Oakland maybe? If not them, he's looking at signing on in a competition at best.

What about Chicago and Detroit. Chicago actually tried to trade for him. And he could certainly beat out Corey Hilliard in Detroit. Not to mention J'Marcus Webb in Chicago.

By the way our old friend Edwin Williams might get a chance to start at Center in Chi town.

Re: Redskins Resign Jamaal Brown

I'd love to see Harris here as a backup. Talk about better depth than Stephon Heyer, even though Harris is more injury prone. And I'm glad Brown resigned here. He may not be a long term solution, but we need a short term solution until we get our long term solution. And he can be that. He definitely got better here at the end of the year, I'm excited to see what he can do this season.

Webb is the guy in Chicago as long as Martz/Tice are there. They really like him at RT.

I will get Harris signed in Detroit or Chicago

or Denver, San Diego, Oakland, Kansas City, Indy, Jax, Houston, Tenn, NE, New York, Miami, Buffalo, Baltimore, Pitt, Cleveland, Cincinatti, Philly, Washington, Dallas, Seatle, St. Louis, Arizona, San Fran, Minnesota, Green Bay, Atlanta, New Orleans, Tampa, or Carolina

KS hinted Chris Chester is going to get first look at RG. Doesn't mean the buck stops there but I look for Hicks to backup both G & T. I prefer Brown over Heyer....glad he decided to resign.

I gotta feeling with might get both. You can mos def see a change in the market since the frenetic pace of the first several days. Harris, from what ive seen but more from what i read, is not that great. Being he is a system fit and a Shanny pick leads me to believe, for the right price, Harris could be in here as a valuable back up. Even though J.B. is supposidly ready to go, that hip kept him out for awhile and when he played still hurt at the beginning of last year, he was largely ineffective. Id say we still in the market looking for some back up help, Harris would be nice addition.

Harris won't come here now because like most NFL players, if they were a starter on one team, the expect to start on another. He's too young to just say "Yeah I want to be a backup, even though I was starting for the Broncos." But if he does come here than GREAT! He's way better than Stephon Heyer on a good day.

Mark my words, Harris will be a Chicago Bear next season and he will start at RT when healthy
Brown, seventh-year pro, on Sunday agreed to terms with Washington on a five-year, $27.5 million deal. He chose the Redskins over Arizona, Kansas City and Chicago.
5 years $27.5Mil, same as Bowen.
5 years $27.5Mil, same as Bowen.
That could be a steal. For a guy with his track record and the position he plays $27.5 million could have easily been the signing bonus. Makes me laugh when I think of how much money Chad Clifton wanted from us last year. Hopefully it reflects well on our culture seeing as how he got offers from two other playoff teams.

Confidence grades for Starting Line

LT - Trent Williams: A- (All the talent in the world but still learning the game)
LG - Kory L: B- (Plays the easiest position on the line and has the skillset needed to succeed in a zone blocking scheme)
C - Will Montgomery C+ (Upgrade over Rabach, and he plays with a very good motor but doesn't have a ton of natural ability. Maybe I'm just bitter about the team not drafting Rodney Hudson).
RG - Chris Chester B+ (Would grade out as a B for most teams but I love him in this scheme)
RT - Jammal Brown B+ (Much healthier now and really came around at the end of last year. Still say that we have a better pair of bookends right now then Samuals and Jansen in their primes).

Good signing that brings continuity to the o-line. We need to sign a backup, one not named Stephon Heyer.

This. The biggest thing for me is continuity, constant reshuffling makes the line suck, at least they won't suck as hard as they have in years past. And while we're on O-line, I would love to pick up another G/C, someone who can push to start -- Beck is going to need a lot of help

You are completely out of your mind, neither are even playing at Jansen's top level yet. Samuals is in a completely different category.
Do they have the potential...sure...but boy, your excitement about a re-signing has gone to your head.
This is still an average line at best....but it is good to celebrate getting at least Rabach off the line.

Re: Redskins Resign Jamaal Brown

Didn't Shanny draft Ryan Harris specifically for his scheme? If the guy wasn't as expensive as he probably will be, I would totally support trying to get him.

Cutting Rabach = Addition by subtraction.

Cutting Rabach was good but having Will Montgomery or Liechtensteiger replace him, not so much -- I am still holding out hope that we can get a decent C in the FA market though I doubt that will happen.

not much left at OG that's of reasonable age. joseph, blalock, lutui, mathis, etc already out and it wasn't strong to start with... lots of really old OL sitting around about to be force retired though.

I think our line is set guys: LT: Trent Williams, LG: Kory Lichtensteiger, C: Will Montgomery, RG: Chris Chester, RT: Jammal Brown

It's a wrap barring injury or someone like Selvish Capers or Stephon Heyer having a phenomenal training camp.

If we had drafted Rodney Hudson that line would have looked amazing, at least on paper. However Montgomery is solid. Just don't expect him to be Matt Birk.
