Oh La Wet Tay Sues Portis for Breach

Check this story out. Seems some unhappy campers in camp. Should Portis pay????

yes.

man, those guys from the UofM are goofs...

saden1 12-29-2004 11:21 PM

To Portis 40K is chump change but to Ohalete it's a big deal. You sign a contract you better fulfill it. It's a shame Portis had to be taken to court to pay what he owes.

aehs77 12-30-2004 12:24 AM

tell him he can have the number back

joecrisp 12-30-2004 06:40 AM

I'd certainly be a little pissed if I were Ohalete. After all, he didn't have to give Portis the number at all. He was the veteran on the team, and it would be a little galling to me if some young punk who just signed a mega-million dollar contract came prancing into camp and expected me to simply kowtow to his every wish and hand over a jersey number I had earned the hard way. Now this punk signs a contract to pay me $40,000 for the number, and he doesn't pay up? That's another, even bigger slap in the face! You're damn right I'm gonna sue the little bastard!

Portis must think that it was all just a big joke, but Ohalete obviously doesn't, and he has a legal right to that $40,000. Portis needs to pay up, or a lot of people-- including Redskins fans and even players in his own locker room-- will never respect him ever again, no matter what he does on the field while wearing that No. 26.

If they put a deal on paper Portis definitely needs to cough up the green.

I can't believe all this drama over a number, jeez.

cpayne5 12-30-2004 08:41 AM

if he ya nee oh ha let he

Its Portis's fault for not putting in a roster clause.

BDBohnzie 12-30-2004 10:56 AM

Portis should (and eventually will) cough up the dough for the number...
Its Portis's fault for not putting in a roster clause.
that would have been a bit pretentious, basically saying, i'm gonna take your number, and if you get cut, i won't pay you because there won't be a need to...going into camp, iffy looked like he would be retained as a backup...

Daseal 12-30-2004 10:58 AM

I wish we still had Ohalate honestly. He was a well rounded solid player. I'm still a bit suprised we cut him.

When you're talking $40k, I don't think it's that pretentious, especially since it is now the reason why he feels he shouldn't have to pay at this point.

Turns out Ohalete didn't want to play ball the Gregg Williams way. He was told in meetings how he could improve, but he never made the effort to do so - basically ignored the coaches's suggestions. He was OK, but not good enough to keep around while acting like that.

Daseal 12-30-2004 11:19 AM

That's the first I've heard about Ohalate not trying to improve.

cpayne5 12-30-2004 11:31 AM

He was deemed uncoachable. He shrugged off suggestions from coaches and pretty much wanted to do things his way. This came out soon after his release.

Then he got toasted in a preseason game and that was it for him.

No big loss. Lott was playing well before he got hurt and Ryan Clark has been a find.

For some reason when I saw the title of this thread it made me think of Eddie Murphy doing Buckwheat on SNL...lol

OH-TAY!

jdlea 12-30-2004 06:07 PM

Ohelete sucks...

that's all I got

Daseal 12-30-2004 08:10 PM

Sucking must have made him our lead tackler last year.

monk81 12-30-2004 09:02 PM

Portis should act like a man and pay the guy instead of making him take him to court to ante up...............this and other things keep creeping up about Portis's character which I don't like.................. :nono:

MTK 12-31-2004 08:34 AM

Smoot said he sides with Iffy here, and he was the one that helped work out this deal between the two. Sounds like CP needs to pay up.

sportscurmudgeon 12-31-2004 01:13 PM

Matty:

It's going to take a judge to get Portis to pay up. If he had any inclination of paying up, this would have been settled by now because the people on the team know about it and so it is not a "private matter" any more.

MTK 12-31-2004 01:41 PM

Either CP is a cheap ass or him and Ohalete have some sort of bad blood between them. Either way I don't care, it's not my money. :)

azskinsfan2 01-02-2005 11:02 AM

Portis is being ridiculous here. He signed the contract so if he goes to court he will lose anyway and pay out more in attorney fees and court costs. He probably carries 40 grand around in his wallet. He gave his word in that contract. Pay up dude!!!!! so your word will still mean something!!!
