I also want to comment on how much better the BBC news is compared to ours. By now, we'd have 20 pundits talking about who's the blame, and giving their political views on the situation.

So which parts of riots in the USA are you advocating other than looting?
The burning of private buildings?
Attacking police?
Attacking people in another class?

Keep in mind you are referring to rioting....not a protest march.

See in the US we have elections every two years and you have the chance to vote out the people you do not like. You can even do like 12th and volunteer to help the people you support to get elected.

This is ridiculous with the American media. No live coverage of Vancouver and no live coverage of London. I guess someone has to riot outside the CNN or Fox News studio to encourage American outlets to cover crap other then American Idol ratings and JLo's divorce.

Heck even BBC America didn't switch up their programming during the riots.

Voting in another person (regardless of party) into a corrupt system isn't going to change anything. The system itself needs changing.

Absolutely amazing article written by Russel Brand of all people. Do yourself a favor and read it. I've included a few paragraphs that stood out to me.
I remember Cameron saying "hug a hoodie" but I haven't seen him doing it. Why would he? Hoodies don't vote, they've realised it's pointless, that whoever gets elected will just be a different shade of the "we don't give a toss about you" party.

Politicians don't represent the interests of people who don't vote. They barely care about the people who do vote. They look after the corporations who get them elected. Cameron only spoke out against News International when it became evident to us, US, the people, not to him (like Rose West, "He must've known") that the newspapers Murdoch controlled were happy to desecrate the dead in the pursuit of another exploitative, distracting story.

Why am I surprised that these young people behave destructively, "mindlessly", motivated only by self-interest? How should we describe the actions of the city bankers who brought our economy to its knees in 2010? Altruistic? Mindful? Kind? But then again, they do wear suits, so they deserve to be bailed out, perhaps that's why not one of them has been imprisoned. And they got away with a lot more than a few ****ing pairs of trainers.

I agree. Never heard of him. Had to google him.
He says - But I know, as we all intuitively know, the solution is all around us and it isn't political, it is spiritual. Gandhi said: "Be the change you want to see in the world."

If both of you got that out of the article, then you maybe you need to reread it again. Where are you getting he's using "our" politics to excuse their riots? Hell, he makes no mention of us at all other than the fact he lives in the US now. You realize there are other places in the world besides America right?

Also, ever thought that maybe their politics are a lot like ours. (which it is...and corrupted and out of touch with its people)

This statement and a few others. I'm not saying he used only our politics but he did use them on several occasions.

I havent been following this thread at all so maybe this has been posted or talked about, but England is a pretty dangerous place:

Some of it is obviously the way statics are measures in England vs other countries (clearly So. Africa is more dangerous), but Great Briton is no safe place. Whats interesting is a lot of these countries have very tough gun laws when compared to the US, yet US ranks below Canada? Maybe someone crazy enough to hurt or kill someone by using a gun would also be willing to hurt or kill someone not using a gun…. who knew…
