Landry to miss opener vs Giants
Time to rally around Doughty!

Great

Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
Now he is blaming himself. It's funny how realizing the impact of your statements in a contract year(AKA his agent telling him to stfu), can change a player's tune.

Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
Would've liked LL to be there open day but it's time for someone else to step up we have more depth now. IMO.

Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
DeJon Gomes for the win!

Agree if he plays watchout, I expect good things from this guy. |
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
I think Doughty will get the call. He's not as athletic as Landry, but I think if we put Gomes in there he'd be a lot more susceptible to play fakes and getting caught deep. I like how aggressive Gomes is but that can be his downfall as well. I don't expect Doughty to play like Landry but I'm not as down on him as some other members of the board are.
|
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
The other option is...Barnes goes back to safety and Westbrook and Thompson move up the CB depth chart.
This may happen if Landry is still out by the time Buchanon returns |
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
What is the 'real story' behind why he is not ready? It seemed like there was plenty of time to get him healthy and he is still out. Did he go against doctors advice in terms of a procedure? Or is it lock out related? Who knows what the real story is?
|
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
wow that is a shame ... it's been quite sometime since we have been graced with some LL licks ... what a bummer .. that is why you DRAFT / SIGN DEPTH ... HAIL TO THE NEW SHERIFFS IN TOWN ... SHANNY-ALLEN TO THE RESCUE !!!!!!!

Lump me in with the Doughty doubters! Not athletic, darn he looks like a 50 yr. old man out there! Kind of like me, except I'm sitting next to 60! |
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
If LL isn't healthy by now then it's going to be a long or short season for Laron. Dissapointing.......
|
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
I wouldn't count LL out for the season, he just tweaked his hammy. This has nothing to do with achilles or wrist injuries.
|
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
shanny said in the press conference after practice. that you never know whats gonna happen and maybe theres a chance he can play. lets hope so. its only wednesday so maybe, just maybe

Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
Fear this more than the average person I guess... it changes what we do on defense when Landry is not in the game. I hate it. Doughty IMO is a giant liability, pun intended... if they beat us, it will be the secondary and a slowly declining pass rush which in turn will let Eli shred us like he usuallybdoes... I pray that we can over come missing LL this week and haslett plays a little more 2 deep than hed like

i completely agree. i dont have much faith in doughty. yeah hes a great tackler when hes there, but hes not there much, always a few steps behind. |

I like Gomes as a blitzer and for his potential. But yeah, realistically, he's a rookie who, as Blache said, will break your heart. |
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
The lockout undoubtedly had an affect on LL's ability to adequately rehab his AT without surgery and without the help of the team doctor and trainers. Over-compensating for his existing injury could have helped led to his now hamstring problems.
|
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
Doughty will be fine . Unless Haselet has him lining up over the slot WR and covering him one - on - one we're fine .I would love for LL to be out there , but now the other 11 guys have to buckle their chin straps and go KO Eli !

I wouldn't say "Oft". He's been injured basically one time. That said, not sure why any of you are surpised he going to be out. I felt all along he would miss the first couple of games. |
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
yes, suspected this. i'm glad at least they are reporting the achilles is okay and it is something different. if it was the same injury from last year, i would be more worried.
even still, concerning that it's taken so long. bet it's going to be 3 games. |
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
Honestly ever since Laron effed his achilles tendon I've expected a series of injuries. I'm not writing him off just yet but Laron isn't a smart, skilled safety. He's a Roy Williams type who relies heavily on his physical dominance and is most helpful in run support. After an achilles injury players have such a tendency to favor that leg, which often leads to strains and/or injuries else where.
...I'm hoping Reed can step up big for us all year!!! |
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
I'd rather have LaRon miss the first game or two than play and get injured and miss the whole season.

Same. Should be a good year if he needs to take a couple games off to be healthy later I'm fine with it |

If that is the case then im all for it. However, I feel like it's going to be a long season for Laron but I definitely hope I am wrong. |

People have their best years when they concentrate - LL is already off on the wrong foot. Hope he can turn this around....we could use him. I certainly did not get the pervasive "man-love" for LL early on. He was a slouch who just happened to be a first round pick and had big biceps. He got more passes for shoddy play than anyone on our roster. Despite the fact that I don't like LL personally, I really feel that he showed up last year and started taking the game seriously. He was indeed a "beast." This is a contract year, so I expect great things out of him again, I also expect him to get fat and lazy after he signs. For this reason, I kind of hope he ends up signing somewhere else. I don't hate the man, I'm just not a big fan. I get tired of his shtick. |
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
I have mixed feelings about Landry; obviously he's a beast on the field but doesn't play smart in coverage at times. He is an impact player but he's always running his mouth & taunting, and that seems to backfire more than help.
On one hand I would like to see him mature & be as great as he can be as a redskin. On the other, if his attitude is a problem (and that appears so at times), his hammy is too & he's not a Shanny guy, I wouldn't be too upset if we got a great return on a trade of him. I don't want to blow this out of proportion but given this latest twitter incident & his contract year, Allen et al will likely be listening to offers. |

He just needs to mature a little....well, a lot. |
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
We drafted 4 safeties between 2006-2008 (Doughty, Landry, Moore, Horton) plus we had Sean Taylor until late 2007...it's crazy to think that Doughty is the only one of the five active for opening day 2011.

Look at all the QB's we went through in the last 10 years. It's par for the course when you change coaches like you're changing your oil. |
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
I would rather see him sit out for a bunch of games than try to play on it too early and screw it up for the rest of the year or his career. I am not that familiar with Achilles injuries but I am sure it can be just as bad as screwing up your knee.
Way too late to place him on the PUP list right? |

Yeah, it's not about the changes so much as that Reed is the one standing |
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
Landry doesn't owe anything to his fans or team but to get healthy. The team should have sufficient depth to account for injuries. Dude was just frustrated by not recovering well. he wants to play. He wants to be a star.

theres a chance in hell but atleast its a chance. I know ill be praying for LaRon to be lacing up, hes my favorite player even though a bunch of you are not a fan |
Re: Landry to miss opener vs Giants
Knocking landry for talking shit and getting hyped about the game is just stupid.... almost every player does it u see those sound fx shows and wat not... its an intense grown ass mans game.. Landry has made more plays for us thru the years than not, I'm sick of hearing ppl hate the player and not the game.
