Mad props to Cam Newton
I figured an NFL record 400 yards passing in his NFL debut was worth it's on thread. I'll say I was one to call him a total bust but now I think this dude could be for real. Yes it's only one game but that's a damn good sign for panthers fans.

Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
He broke Peyton Mannings rookie debut passing record.
He also broke Matt Staffords rookie year any game passing record. Huge day for him. I'm sorry he didnt win. |

Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
Due if Cam does that to the Card what will our offense do next week?
I hope Hightower runs for 200 against his old team |

Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
What a way to silence your detractors. I've never seen a QB more criticized coming out of college than Cam Newton. I guess dominating the SEC, winning the Heisman and National Championship wasn't enough for some people.

Tebow got it real rough too. |

Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
Dude throws a....real nice deep ball.....often.

Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
i hate cam newton and his million dollar smile...
but good job buddy. |
Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
Yeah, that guy was so hyped up before the draft, you couldn't help but almost wish he was a dud, but damn what a turn around from a horrid preseason. If this keeps up most of us in here will eat crow. I say that because it is one game against the Cards. I think Cam had way more critics in here than sympathizers. It is too bad he is on such a bad team, but in a few seasons with him there, they can turn it around.

LOL, I was about to just post the below before I caught this. I'm a official Cam Newton Hatter, and have since day 1. Guy had a hell of a day today against the cards, but let me know when he plays a real defense. Regardless of the shitty defense, he still put up 400 yards against another NFL team as a rookie. That's ****ing impressive no matter who you are. Kudos to the rook. Hope he proves me wrong and I"ll gladly eat that full setting of crow. I'm not going to eat the full crow yet since it's only one game, but I'll have a crow wing with BBQ sauce please. |
Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
I wanna see some numbers against a halfway decent d before i say he's not a bust.

Dude. F Newton... Who cares??? How about Rex? Post that shit on the Panthers board.. Really? |

And I'll eat some of that crow with him. For Newton to go 24-37 and 422, 2 td's one rushing. I don't care if it's Az. It was on the road and it's the guy's first start. You just don't see rookies doing that. The guy was simply bad ass. |

Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
Dude.
F Newton... Who cares??? How about Rex? Post that shit on the Panthers board.. Really?
C'mon man Newton set a rook record today. I was a detractor and I can appreciate what the guy did. He had a bad preseason, got the start anyway and went nuts on the Cards in Phoenix. I am sure he will come down to earth a bit, but if he is throwing 300 yard games regularly, soon he is going to be a OROY lock for sure. And once the Panthers give him more toys to help him out, the NFL is in trouble. |
Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
I'll second that detractor statement. I wasn't on Newton's bandwagon at all, especially after his horrible preseason, and true this is one game, but 422 yards and 3 combined touchdowns is impressive, and is only made more impressive that he's a rookie making his first career start. Kudos to him. It remains to be seen if he will be consistent week to week but he certainly couldn't have gotten off to a better start.

Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
Because Newton can stand in the pocket and throw the football with bodies around him, he's an offensive coordinator's dream. And he's going to be just fine in this league.
I don't know if this particular performance is anything special -- I mean 400 yards is a lot of them, but if the debut record was held by say, Ryan Leaf, what would it mean then? Vince Young went 8-5 as a rookie, and it didn't get him anywhere. Newton still has a major learning curve and is going to struggle a lot as a rookie. But Newton was a pass-first guy going back to college, and even without the read option to devastate a college defense, he's still an imposing figure to have to defend. The Panthers are going to win a bunch of games this year with Newton at quarterback. But you need to consider how good their defense is. |
Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
Great performance by Newton on Sunday, but not ready to annoint Newton yet. Let's see how he's doing in Week 6 once there's some good tape on him out there and DCs have a chance to adjust to him.
I think it's very ironic that the player the Panthers should've taken IMO wound up making the play to beat them. |
Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
I definitely did not expect those types of numbers from Newton. Granted it's a very so-so defense in AZ(great news for us) it is still tough to throw the ball around like that on your debut.

And that's why he will probably win ROW, and not Kerrigan! Ryan Kerrigan nominated for Rookie of the Week - The Insider - The Washington Post |
Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
Congratulations to the rookie, I like to see good young Qbs coming into the league. If he can be a good NFL Qb then I need to eat some serious crow, as I was certainly one who did not think he could do it.
That being sad....mad props??? what year is this? I think I am going to start a thread with the title: Rex Grossman is going to win MVP.....NOT!!!! |
Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
For the record...I always liked Cam coming out of college and stumped for him to be in B&G if he made it to #10! Ahhhh....vindication (at least for a week)?
BTW- New Guy. Stop cursing and write like an adult. NOT COOL! |

A rookie qb playing his first career game and scoring 3 touchdowns and throwing for 422 yards against a rookie OLB who had a pick 6? No contest. I'll still vote for Kerrigan but if you look at it without burgundy colored glasses it's obvious who wins that. |
Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
Mad Props!! He will be rookie of the week. Unfortunately for Kerrigan.

Rex will go for 450 against that pathetic Cards D.
|
Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
I watched some of the Cards/Panthers replay last night and Cam was even better than I thought. He was patient, checked down when he had to, very impressive for a rookie. Plus he's got a cannon of an arm. He can sling it anywhere on the field.

Sounds like a young Rex Grossman. |

Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
Packer fans represent.
Cam deserved it. Nice to see Kerrigan getting a week one mention. |
Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
No way will Cam throw for 400 yards two weeks in a row, in-fact it's highly unlikely that he'll ever accomplish that feat again in his entire career. Oh wait. What happened to all of the people who said he couldn't be an effective passer in the NFL because he can't read defenses effective enough to consistently locate the open receiver(rolls eyes at Kurt Warner, Colin Cowherd, and pretty much everyone besides Jerry Richardson and Ron Rivera)?

One thing he isnt....is that other Auburn QB. I wonder if folks were subconciously operating under an assocation fallacy. |
Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
As I said before, I feel bad for any team in the NFC South. Ryan, Brees, Freeman, and now Newton arriving way ahead of schedule.
|
Re: Mad props to Cam Newton
Props again to Cam Newton for his big game against the Packers, although he did throw 3 picks. Clearly he has the tools to be an effective qb. And for the 2nd week in a row, Ryan Kerrigan will have a hard time winning the Rookie of the Week award.

NFL Network said it was their highest rated reply in their entire history(268,000). Interesting to say the least. |
