Eagle worries
Last year, I would say that the iggles were a pass rusher and a WR away from the super bowl. They've now picked up Kearse and TO, arguably the best pass rusher and the best WR to switch teams this year. Much as I hate them, I believe they are now the team to beat in the NFC. Am I wrong here?
They have lost their CBs and Emmons, but will that hurt them? Maybe they'll be especailly vulnerable to the run. I sure hope so, given Portis is in the house. What do y'all think? |
I think they are the team to beat. NFC runners up three years in a row, NFC East Champs until someone takes their place. Yes, they have gotten a couple of outstanding players. The thing with Owens is that he'll probably maximize his potential playing for a team that will set clear boundaries on making criticisms of other players and coaches. He didn't have people to tell him no at SF like Jeff Garcia's dad pointed out.
I feel like the Redskins will need another year to get the engine running the way they want. We need more secondary depth, and more depth on the defensive line. I think our offense will be something to see, especially if we draft Winslow. This year Redskins football is going to be fun! |
I think without Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent they're in much worse trouble than they may realize. I don't care what promise the 2 corners they drafted a few years ago showed last season, they still haven't started 16 games at corner in the NFL. Until then, they haven't proven anything. Let's not forget Taylor and Vincent made the Pro Bowl 2 years ago and they haven't added a CB this offseason. Could mean they're going to have some trouble this year...at least I hope so.
|
Kearse was the big ticket item for the igges this off season. TO will soon show his true colors & wear his welcome out in Philly.
I love TO talent, but his attitude ruins it for him. I remember TO years back when he was living in Jerry's shadow. He was a humble & very talented young man. Now he's reckless & obnoxious! |
I think with TO now we might want to think about defense the first pick.
|
The Eagles lost alot on defense. Kearse will get hurt again this year. T.O. will be a distraction the first time McNabb becomes inconsistent or T.O. feels he is not getting the ball enough.
They lost more than they gained on defense. |
For the last few years, the Redskins have been accused of signing a fantasy football team, and expecting big names with issues to lead their team. I see Philly's offseason as mimicking this behavior. The Eagles have signed a one-dimensional DE with injury problems, and a WR who has been disruptive to team chemistry every year he's been in the league. Congratulations, Philly. You just beat us out for the March Championship. Now let's see if it works as well for you as it has for us.
|
Two years ago, the Eagles drafted two CBs and a safety with three of their top five picks. Now those guys had better be ready because losing two better than average cornerbacks in one off-season is a big deal for a defense.
The Eagles still do not have a top flight RB - unless Westbrook turns into one pretty quickly. Their tight ends are OK but not much more than that. If the Eagles can draft a run-stuffing tackle inside to rotate with the the guys they have (who are undersized and wear down late in the season), that will be a big help. Are they the team to beat in the NFC? Probably not. Are they about to implode and go 4-12? Without disastrous injuries, very unlikely. |
i do'nt think we'll see an andy reid explosion of the jim mora diddly pooh mode next season, but we can always have hope can't we?if you look at the big picture the iggles
have lost more than they have gotten.they do'nt have a decent rb anymore, nor any good corners, and they have the most explosive player OFF THE FIELD on their team now.we'll see what happens.................i hear TO is moving in with allen"i do'nt know any 8 time all star,3 time mvp that comes off the bench"iverson.philly is a city of fun now is'nt it? |
Everyone wants to write off the Eagles but for 3 straight years they have been on the footsteps of the SB.
They'll again be strong this year and should probably reach double digit wins again. One things for sure, the NFC East is gonna be a slugfest! |
if they can recover losing the 2 corners, i say watch out
|
I think people want to write off the Eagles for good reason. They have been close the last 3 years and I feel that window got slammed shut last year. They had every advantage in that game. They had a better team and they were playing at home. The Panthers had better wide outs and a better runner, but Donovan made the Eagle offense better than that of Carolina. I said before if it didn't happen last year it wouldn't happen and I'm going to stand by that.
T.O. is 31 and Kearse will continue to have injury problems. A team like Philly continues to let a lot of guys with character and heart leave their team. Hugh Douglas, Bobby Taylor, Troy Vincent, Jeremiah Trotter, they were all leaders. Now, Philly has not seemed to miss a beat, but I don't feel like they're any better defensively this season than they were last year. If anything, they lost more than they gained. They paid an obsene amount of money for Kearse and I think Jevon is a gamble. I don't think Philly has what it takes to make it to the NFC Championship game again. I think they lost way too much this offseason and tried to compensate with two guys who have a good chance of making the organization look bad. See: Deion Sanders. |
Well, remember they also lost Carlos Emmons and Duce Staley, and Westbrook is coming off a major knee injury. They did add Dhani Jones, up and coming star linebacker.
|
While McNabb is more mobile and athletic Garcia is a better all around passer than McNabb. Did T.O. have a big impact with the 49ers? What were they 7 and 9? T.O. might improve the Eagles passing game but I don't think it will be a dramatic impact. Kearse is too injury prone for them to count on. I think they've lost more than they gained in FA!

I think you have a good point in the comparison between Garcia and McNabb. Despite all the criticism Gacia has received, he's an accurate passer - a trait no one will bestow upon McNabb. If TO was frustrated by Garcia not getting him the ball enough, McNabb bouncing him 10 yard ins should make him crazy. |
In any case, we better have some good mini camps and preseason if we hope to keep up with the girls or the iggles. I think Joe and the other coaches can get it done, but we need some team leaders to step up and lead the charge!!!
|
Garcia doesn't have the arm to get it down field though. At least McChoke can lob one up for him. TO can dominate most CBs in the air. He's one of the strongest receivers in the league, and he also has some speed.
Kind of like Rod Gardner, he's fast for a big receiver. I think with the right coaching Rod could still be a beast. ALthough I'm not totally against trading him! |
I can't wait to see Owens blow up when McNabb hits him in the knees or overthrows him by a mile.
|

I was thinking the same thing I want to see TO's face when he's wide open and McNabb throw's one of his patent dart's straight into the turf, be careful what you wish for you just might get it. |
I want to see him going over the middle and having Sean Taylor (please draft him Joe!) tattoo his facemask pattern on TO's ribs! :)
|
Maske at the post seems to be worried about the iggles...

Rightly so. Had the Eagles failed to obtain a legitimate receiving threat, they possibly could have fallen behind the Cowboys and Redskins in the NFC East power struggle, given Joe Gibbs return to the Redskins and the Skins' various acquisitions, the Cowboys entering their second year under Parcells, and the Eagles losing several key players-- especially in their secondary.
Kearse was a big pickup for them-- crucial, considering the weakening of their secondary with the losses of Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor. But if the Eagles hadn't dramatically improved their receiving corps, it would be easy to say they had taken a step back as a team. TO changes all of that, and lends a dynamicism to their offense that hasn't existed under Andy Reid's stewardship. If Kearse stays healthy and TO just shuts up and plays, the Eagles could be very scary next season. |
The best safety is Roy Williams.......

True, but I don't understand why the Eagles gave TO a new contract. I understand that they want to win now because they believe their window of opportunity is closing, but I don't think it would be a good idea to keep TO for more than 2 years. He's getting old, he's a whiner, and he's not nearly as good as people say he is. So, I don't understand why they didn't just keep Owens for two more years, cut him, and not take a cap hit. He never did invoke the clause of his contract allowing him to void the final years of his deal. In any event, the Eagles are going to be VERY scary and their secondary has not degraded as much as people think. They've got some good young guys in their secondary to go along with Brian Dawkins. If their secondary stays healthy, they will be quite good. |
I don't think that the Eagles D is going to be very good this season. Even when they were healthy, they could'nt stop the run. Then they pony up for a guy who doesn't play the run, and lose carlos emmons.
and this with Gibss and Parcells in the division. |
As Thomas Boswell pretty much said this morning, TO will rot the team from the inside out, if a leash is not put on him. I'm not worried about the Eagles. They've got a good coach, a decent qb, a pass rush specialist, a loudmouth WR that the fans will eat alive, and thats about it.
|
I don't think TO will wreck the locker room. He says a lot of shit, but he backs it up and works his ass off to be the best he can!
|
I Think you are all missing the point about TO!!!
The Eagles have added a great WR but still have no one on the other side! So double him up and be physical at the line! More important is if thing don't go well for TO how long will it take for the fans in Philladelphia to turn on him? Now that will be funny!!!! In SF the fans put up with all the s**t he kept coming out with. But living out here on the left coast there is no love for him and on talk raido[KMBR] there has been the same feeling that Bailey got...Don't let the door hit you on the way out! A lot of times it is TO the fails in the times he is needed most! Now he is the man and it will be fun to see if he is ready for the fans that booed Santa! If he gets off on the wrong foot look out!!!!
|
TO will not be able to keep his mouth shut. This situation is a powder keg, because the Philly press will always be picking on him, and it is only a matter of time before he repeats that he is only as good as the QB. Also, McNabb's performance will suffer as he runs out of scapegoats.
While it is true that Philly's receivers are not top shelf, we have all seen McNabb bounce passes to RBS and TE's. TO will be lobbying for Detmer soon enough. |
When you compare postions between us and Eagles, I think right now QB, Saftey and Dline are the only places they have better players than us.
|
Receiver is questionable.
Their young TE is quite good, can't remember his name right off. Qb? McNabb is good but for a passer give me Ramsey anyday! |
the young TE is L J Smith, but he isnt that great from what I have seen, granted he was a rookie last year but he dropped quite a few balls.
|
And we have Rasby and Royal =p
I think LJ Smith has a lot of talent (I think Royal does too really) |
The Eagles have improved themselves dramatically! The addition of TO alone creates problems for an opposing defense. They lost a pair of corners and a linebacker, but they have Kearse and run a scheme that can fill the gaps. I agree with Matty, the NFC East is going to be the new black and blue division of the NFL.
|
Nfc B-east!
NFC B-EAST! That's what it is now! Yeah, Black & Blue & Bloody!
I have come off of my 8-8 prediction now after all of our signings. Either 8-8, or 9-7 depending on who we get in the Draft. HOF Coach Gibbs is certainly getting the guys he wants to turn it around. Can we say 3-4 "D" with the CB's blitzing in from the corners? |
The difference between the eagles and SKins is that they know how to manage the cap. In three years our team is gonna have to almost be completely revaped, where the eagles will have plenty of leway. Can we get a GM please.
|

Look at what TO did to the locker room in San Fran. |

Some teams with legitimate GM's still have to do that (i.e. the Ravens a year after they won the SB). It is a different way of thought....and neither is the "right" way. |
McNabb is not a big game quarterback. No, this isn't Rush Limbaugh... He's inaccurate, streaky at best and not improving. I think we've seen the best we'll see from McNabb. I'm more worried about the Cowboys than the friggin' Eagles. God I hate the f**kin' Cowboys. I hope Drew Henson turns out to be a better 3rd baseman than qb.
|
3 straight NFC Championships isn't too shabby for a guy who isn't a big game QB.
