I mentioned this movie in the movie thread but it didn't get a lot of attention. Apparently Ohio is one of the states that allows you to keep whatever pet and it has become a real problem. If you are looking for a great DOC this is the movie for you!

I think I'll pass. I've seen shows where people keep buffalos in their homes, horses, bears, tigers, etc. The stupidity of it just ticks me off to no end.

That movie looks pretty sweet. Is it already out? Do you know if the owner of the escaped animals is the main pet owner in the film, or part of the film? Theres a lot of speculation the guy was killed and the animals were set free...... If he was indeed killed i wonder if this film provoked his murder?

The movie has been out. `

IT is truly a great film that present both sides very fairly. after seeing the film i saw where the folks that have these animals are coming from in a better light, still don't agree with them but I get "it" a little better.

A interesting thing in the film is that the main guy (cop) also helped out in Africa with attacks and stuff. He said not one person in Africa thought it be a good idea to keep a dangerous pet and they have them all around them.

Hey guys, I'm heading out to Ohio to catch a tiger, because I've always wanted one as a pet. Anyone want to join me? :D

I can see someone waking up after a hard night of drinking and looking out his window to see these run by.

sheriff says a mountain lion, grizzly bear and monkey are the only animals still running loose

Wow, just heard on Fox News Radio that they ordered everyone to stay in their houses...about 50 animals to catch. They had to give a shoot-to-kill order because of the danger to the public by these animals...no way the police will know how to safely catch tigers and bears. They've put down a lot of them so far.

I just hope they spare the monkeys.

The crazy lady set a zoo loose then killed herself. Gee, thanks.

People are commenting about "waaaah, why can't they tranquilize them and transport them?" It's not an easy thing to do...there aren't just unlimited places to send these animals...and they need to get this under control as quickly as possible to protect the public. It IS sad the animals must be killed, but to me, human lives are more valuable than animals.

Niiiiice.

Yeah, I'd prefer they didn't kill the animals either, but it'd be a logistical nightmare to catch them and figure out where to transport them, as well as where they'd stay. Whomever said human life is more important than animal life, well they were right. Sucks but that's the way its gotta be.

I back home in Ohio for a few days, and this farm is literally 15 miles down I 70 from me. I understand the authorities were forced to put these animals down for public safety, but the Columbus Zoo operates an exotic animal farm not more than 25 miles from here.
The nut job owner of the farm, Mr Thompson is well aquainted with local and federal law enforcement agencies. In fact just two weeks above was released from federal prison. Some here think that it may not be suicide, but the work of animal rights activists. The theory is they released Mr Thompson's animals then killed him.

No....I do not either.
It is amazing how often animals pay the price with their lives for mans stupidity....generally without much afterthought.
It is just a shame this guy could only lose his life once.

I've heard it's a big money business (exotic animals). Just as profitable if not more profitable then human trafficking and narcotics.

What a day for the cops that had a hunting licence. Like instead of going after dear or quail they get to hunt animals that 99% of the time would land someone in jail, even in Africa. Still you got to wonder why they weren't able to eventually get a couple of tranquilizer guns in their with animal control.

I agree. I am guilty of starting silliness to lighten the mood. My bad.

What gets me the most, though, is that the guy did not care for the animals. By all accounts the place was in deplorable condition and he had been cited multiple times for animal cruelty. So the animals weren't doomed when they ran free and cops hunted them down; they were doomed when he acquired them. Why someone would acquire expensive and rare animals just to mistreat them is beyond me but it pisses me off.

Neither do I. Maybe we should revisit Al Davis and Steve Jobs thread and make a few jokes in regards to their death as well.
