What Do You Think About The Randy Moss Incident?
I am not a Randy Moss fan and I wouldnt want him on my team, having said that I dont think what he did was that bad,my first reaction was to laugh,I think the announcers and the fox studio crew blew it way out of proportion, then not to even show it on sportscenter, give me a break,he didnt actually pull his pants down, then when I read the packers fans have a tradition of mooning the other teams bus when it leaves just reinforces my reaction,I thought what he did earlier in the game was worse, they showed him on the sidelines yelling at the packers fans, you could read his lips saying:look at the scoreboard motherfuckers!
What do ya'll think? |
Whatever. Just classless crap from Moss. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.
|
It wasn't any worse than Plummer giving the bird to his own fans! I think Dungy mentioned that the Packer faithful have a tradition of mooning the opposing fans' buses, so Moss actually planned ahead it seems.
|
I know that all the nerdy TV analysts like to whine about his "attitude" and everything, but Randy Moss is the coolest player in the NFL. Not the hardest-working, and not the best, and not the most team-oriented, but the fu**ing coolest. God, remember when he was wearing BRACES as a rookie? How bad-ass was that? He's got that super-cool, Smoot-like Mississippi drawl, and then the big afro yesterday just took the cake. I didn't think the mooning was all that creative, but who cares? Why can't a NFL player have fun when he scores a touchdown? Does anyone really honestly get offended by that stuff? Players have been doing this kind of thing for years, going back to Billie "White Shoes" Johnson's six-gun shooting after touchdowns in the '70s.
|
I wasn't at all offended by it. It would be different if he actually dropped his pants. I agree that he's done worse. I know he's a heck of a receiver, but personally I wouldn't want him on my team because he's too much of a loose cannon. And I don't think he has an ounce of respect for his coaches or his teammates. He's all about ME.
Having said that, I also agree that the mooning incident was blown way out of proportion. I was listening to the D.C. news on NBC last night. George Michael and Sonny Jurgenson were talking about it. Sonny said that even back when he was playing, the Redskins team used to get mooned by the Philadelphia fans as they were leaving on the bus - every single time they went there. So apparently there is some history behind his actions. |
Unfortunately, while I think most of the folks who get offended by this kind of stuff are honorable people, they are deluding themselves if they believe that this game and those who participate in it are somehow above such lewdness.
Football is a vulgar sport. Football players are vulgar men. Football fans are, by and large, vulgar people. Though desiring good sportsmanship and decorum is a noble aspiration, it overlooks the fundamental realities of this game, and the social and cultural forces that have shaped it. I think it's sad that sportsmanship is an antiquated notion, but it doesn't surprise me. Look at the world we live in. |
Moss is very typical of today's overpaid, overadulated sports all-star. He's an ego monster that was created by his agent, fed through the media, inflated by management, and reinforced by the fans. The 'fake mooning' incident in itself is no big deal to me, but just his overall 'look at me and f&^$ the rest of y'all' attitude is what really torques me off. How many people saw the pre-game interview with JJ? I couldn't honestly believe that a 'professional' that has been in the league for so long is still clueless about the spirit of the game, sportsmanship, and team play. Ya ask me, he's found Ricky Williams' secret stash and has been dipping into it on a regular basis.
|
Yeah, I didn't see a problem with his dance. I love seeing him jaw at the crowd. Why isn't a player, who I'm sure was bombarded by fans, allowed to speak back?
If we could afford him, I'd take Randy Moss in a second. He's turned into a leader, something the Redskins are sorely lacking, especially on offense. And we may lose our defensive leader too. Doesn't look like Arrington's willing to step up anytime soon. Moss is often unselfish, playing through injuries just to make the other teams respect him as a decoy. He's THE BEST receiver in the NFL and he made plenty of mistakes when he was a young player, now he can't live them down. Anyone think he was selfish when he threw a pass over his head to Moe Williams last year? I love a guy who's honest and candid. I don't want some politically correct bullshit from the players all the time. |
His mooning of the crowd wasn't a big deal to me and after I heard Tony Dungy say that the Packers faithful do this to the visiting team as they pull away in their buses it put the incident in to perspective.
Moss is arguably the most talented WR to have ever played the game. Would I want him on the Skins? Well, considering our current cap situation I wouldn't, but if I was a GM with a bunch of cap room looking to make a big splash this offseason, I would take a long look at making a move for Moss if the Vikes are looking to unload him. |
I thought it was hilarious. And I think that Joe Bucks reaction has fueled this outcry as much as anything. Buck acted as if Moss punched an old lady and stole her purse. Huge overreaction. And in most situations I think that players that cause controversy are not good for a team, but this guy is soooooooo good that anyone who would not want him on their team is kidding themselves. He would make Ramsey a probowler. Just throw it up there and he will go get it. Neither one of his TD catches on Sunday was necesarily a great pass by Culpepper. Moss just outfights every DB for the ball. You just need to have a strong coaching staff and veteran leadership to keep him in line a little bit. That being said the skins do not have anywhere near the cap room for Moss.
|
There are worse things a player has done in the past few years. I'll take that childishness over running to "the star" anyday.
The NFL will fine him 5 G's - which he could care less about - and people will talk all week about "childish Randy" instead of the Vikings vs. the Eagles. I'd say that's a benefit to the Vikings, wouldn't you? |
While I don't condone such antics by a classless piece of overpaid garbage at least he didn't go "Artest" on the fans.
|
I laughed when I saw it on TV, and had a 10 minute conversation with the bartender at my local Red Lobster about how much of a pansy that Joe Buck is...
Should Moss be fined? Sure...but more for his sideline language than mooning the crowd... Would I want Moss on the Redskins? Nope...and I wouldn't look back. He has the talent, but to call him a leader isn't quite accurate. And if he is, I wouldn't want him leading me if I were playing. He doesn't set a great example for a team to follow...he played through those injuries for personal reasons (to extend a games played streak), and now has reaggrevated his ankle injury...and he gives up on routes when he knows the ball isn't coming to him. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't follow someone who said that he only plays when he wants to. And for me, leaving the field at FedEx was the icing on the cake on how he feels about his team, the league and the game. He'll be in Minnesota for life because they are the only ones who will put up with his crap. You think a guy like Mariucci or Gibbs is going to have the Moss Factor? My biggest beef...when several writers (including Tony Kornheiser on The Sports Reporters yesterday afternoon on 980) comparing Moss to TO, and their antics...they believed that Moss had more evil intentions than TO...and i agree with the pompon routine....but the Star incidents in Dallas, and sharpie...TO was just trying to show up the fans and his opponent, just like Moss did... |
I agree with anyone saying that I wouldn't want Randy on the Redskins. I do feel that Gibbs might be able to change his tone, but I don't think that it would be worth the risk. Either he would sit down and shape up, or he would just completely blow off the team and I would think there's more of a chance of him blowing off the team than listening to what Gibbs has to say.

Where I grew up you actually had to pull down your pants in order to moon someone. This is another non-issue. What I do find offensive are the constant Levitra and Cialis commercials I am bombarded with while watching an nfl game. Shut up already with that noise.
|
Ever since the Janet Jackson Super bowl halftime incident, the networks are running scared.
People really need to lighten up! Were these highly judgemental people ever young? Maybe there is a need for a separate game feed for the hypocritical conservatives and the religious wrong. Put it on a 10 second delay and have Howdy-Doodie and Mr. Rogers as their halftime entertainment. Plus, instead of commercials they can have organized prayer...where they can pray for never having to see a women's breast or a player pulling down his pants. "THE HORROR!" We are the only nation in the world that is so worried about nudity but are a-OK for our kids to watch violence on TV and video games and participate in violent sports. |
Joe Buck must not watch the network that cuts his checks. "Who's your Daddy?" "The Simple Life?" "Joe Millionaire?" anyone?
|

Dude, those commercials KILL ME. Because you know we ALL want to hear about erectile dysfunction. |
Now that I heard the stuff about the Green Bay fans doing it to him, I dont think its as bad as I originally took it.
|
I'm aghast at the prudishness of Joe Buck & JB and even Sportscenter that evening who wouldn't show the clip. A fine from the NFL is likely, and I'm completely against the fine.
All Randy Moss did was say a "f..k you" in his own way to Packers fans who were heckling him for the walking away incident against the skins. I think Moss should've gone a step further and feigned taking a dump at the goal post. Moss is doing a great thing by taking all the pressure off of Tice and the Vikes, and bringing all the heat onto himself. Now Robert Royal's TD dance....that's the definition of obscene!!! I think he toned it down in the last game. Time to cut out the double standard...if you're fining Moss, fine Royal as well. It isn't as though Moss' fine is going to bring about any character improvement. |
I think that's what Royal needs to work on in the offseason, his post-touchdown dance. Jeezus.

Well said... |

Not to mention his "Leon" commercials If this is Marcus Robinson celebrating that way it's not an issue |

Good point. Joe Buck must read scripture all week. His reaction was the most appauling part of the whole thing... |
I don't think I have ever seen anything mor blown out of proportion in sports history. I mean seriously the sports world has spent the better part of the last two days mouthing off about this. I think some people need to seriously examine their priorities when there are so many other things wrong with the NFL. Lets talk about how much of a joke the officiating has been this year or maybe we could talk about how a league dominated by blacks has like 2 black coaches or maybe we could talk about how the league will spend another four days during the off-season meetings discussing ways to protect the QB and get offense up while ignoring poor defensive linemen and thier ever shortening careers due to the lack of adequate rules to protect them from viscous and classless chop blocks. I love football more than any other sport. I live and die by it during the season (sad but true) and I am tired of the hypocritical ass-clowns screwing up the message with their little personal vendettas against certain players. What did Randy Moss do (this time) that is even close to deserving this type of reaction?
And while we're at it...has any of these retarded ass-clowns ever considered the fact that by talking about it so much and villifying it (even though there are many who could care less) they raise it up as part of the sport and end up create more of it. If they would just ignore this crap then then there would no story and then there would be much less of it. Makes me wonder why when ever a guy scores a touchdown the camera stays on him long enough to see what his celebration will be. If they were serious about getting rid of this stuff they wouldn't ever show a celebration and they would never talk bout it. What a bunch of hypocrits. |
One of the biggest things I'm getting sick of, is how they are trying to take hitting out of football. I know that helmet to helmet is a problem, but it seems like everything that is basically a good hard hit, carries either a fine/penalty/or both.

I agree...the best was the penalty on us when we played Minn. I don't even remember the specifics(since there were so many bad calls against us this year they all sorta run together!) but didn't someone barely hit Culpepper like barely late or not at all and got a penalty. For Crissakes Culpper is like 6'5" and weighs like 260! What are you supposed to do? Ask him to please take knee so I can tackle you without hitting you! |
Remember the old fellas that didn't even have facemasks? Now those are MEN.
|
I think that Randy Moss is the biggest MEATHEAD in the league at the moment; and that by comparison, Sean Taylor is an altar boy.
|
At least Sean plays with every bit of passion he has in his body...
|
This is horse crap. You know what I did when I saw him moon the crowd? I laughed! Did you guys see all the posters they had on the stands about Moss? I probably would have gone further and kissed my hand and patted me'bum.
|
Did anyone watch the pregame and the usual Brett "is a God" Farve piece, that was actually a comedy skit.
Brett was filmed running around the stadium and through town supposedly naked. Obviously he was not...... but then what Moss did (faking pulling down his pants) was so wrong? Diffrent rules for diffrent people. Our golden haired QB can do no wrong, but the bad guy Moss needs to be fined and told to act right. I am not sure I like where the league headed. |

I think Moss had it on the money - to talk about the feigned mooning as the main event, and to forget that the Vikes demolished the packers in a big win at Lambeau, is clearly not seeing the big picture. |
Who cares. I thought it was funny to see. If Lavar or someone on the team would of done something like that at Dalass it would be great also.
Would I want Randy on the team? Heck yes. Could you just see Ramsey throw it deep to him. |
the media needs a bad guy and moss is it since TO is hurt. they have to create that player u love to hate
|
Humorous
I thought it was funny, and people overreactted! The media are a bunch of hypocrits!

Can I hear an Amen! from the choir!:laughing2 |
Let me get this straight now about Fox:
Who's your Daddy-OK (show that has adoptees try to figure out their real Daddy) Temptation Island-Ok (show that takes "committed couples and throws hotties at them to see if they will cheat) Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance-OK (show that dupes and enitre family about a marriage that never really happens) Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire-OK (Marry a guy that you meet right on the show on the spot for money) Randy Moss doing a "Moon" celebration-NOT OK. Glad I got that straigtened out. |
