We Need To Draft Heath Miller!

A few days ago my friends I had an interesting day. I heard the news that Heath Miller is leaving my school UVa. But then I realized that now the Redskins can draft him. I'm telling everyone this guy is a star. ANd he's a perfect Redskins. Can block as well as be a big time threat. He would be perfect for our offense. We must draft Heath Miller with the 9th pick.

Daseal 01-12-2005 06:21 PM

Not sure I agree - I want to see how FA pool pans out, if Coles gets surgery, etc. I think we could wait and get a beast blocking TE later in the draft instead of another pass receiver. I wouldn't be horribly disappointed because I think the guy is quite a player, just want to see how FA goes.

skinsguy 01-12-2005 06:27 PM

I'm not so sure Coles will even get the surgery and if he does, he runs the risk at ending his career....I think we do need another speed receiver..but I agree about seeing what the free agency has for us this time.

d151b 01-12-2005 06:53 PM

we need a big time receiver! 'nuff said.

Riggo44 01-12-2005 07:03 PM

To words, Plaxico Burress!!

Paintrain 01-12-2005 07:17 PM

The 9th pick on Heath Miller?? The 29th pick MAYBE if we trade down, but that guy is slow with a capital SLOW... He makes a lineman seem fast.. The guy can block and catch, but with Cooley and Royal we have much bigger needs at #9 than a slow TE.

skin4Life28 01-12-2005 07:26 PM

Abosuletly agree with Pain, there is no way we use our 9th pick on H. Miller. Although, he is not as slow as Pain says we need other things. Now if we trade down and get more picks maybe, just maybe. But we have bigger wholes to fill.

aehs77 01-12-2005 08:54 PM

i will never agree with drafting someone named heath again.

TheMalcolmConnection 01-12-2005 08:54 PM

I'm still all about making room for Plaxico Burress, but if making room for him means not having room for Smoot, I say we draft a WR.

Kevikazi 01-12-2005 09:32 PM

TJ Houshmanzadeh (sp?) from the Bengals may also be a good WR to get....and I'm sure he will be cheaper than Burress. Also, possibly trade Gardner & Smoot for Musim Muhammad & Andre Dyson. Regarding our 9th overall draft pick, I rather trade down if we can to get more picks and draft some pass-rushing DE, strong center, and an athletic guard who can pull on counter-trey plays. D. Dockery may be strong, but he is too slow.

Bozzy 01-12-2005 10:23 PM

I read this as Heath Shuler. Don't know why.

It scared me.

man we shut down heath miller (we being tech), and there is no way we would draft him at #9. id be suprised if we drafted him, period. more pressing needs, and although he has great hands, hes just not fast enough.

skins009 01-13-2005 02:07 AM

Wow you must have been high when you watched Heath Miller play. Slow, the guy is athletic as hell. And make no mistake about it he is a pass catcher and blocker.

TheMalcolmConnection 01-13-2005 11:52 AM

I DID forget about TJ from the Bengals. HE would be a great (possibly cheaper) pick-up.

EEich 01-13-2005 12:32 PM

The report is that TJ is likely to stay in Cincinnati
Porter may be on his way out of Oakland though.

TheMalcolmConnection 01-13-2005 01:08 PM

I'm not really familiar with Porter. Would he be a better pick-up than taking someone from the draft?

Paintrain 01-13-2005 02:32 PM

Admittedly I haven't watched much UVA football, but the couple of times I saw them play Miller didn't stand out as a Tony Gonzalez, Kellen Winslow, Jeremy Shockey type of athlete. Granted 2 of the 3 haven't done dick in the NFL, but they were one of the best offensive weapons in all of college football when they played. I don't see Miller in their league. I may have exaggerated on how slow he is. :biggthump

TheMalcolmConnection 01-13-2005 02:39 PM

Heath Miller keeps a much lower profile than the Shockeys and Winslows also. I don't know. I definitely think he will be a force when he enters the NFL.

skins009 01-13-2005 03:17 PM

Miller was not as effective this year because our quaterback sucked. Instead he just blocked extrememly well and never said a word. But last year as a sophmore with Schaub at quaterback he tore it up. He is gonna be up there with the elite at tightend believe me.

Redskins_P 01-13-2005 04:17 PM

Don't draft Heath Miller

Why?

Two words: Chris Cooley.

End of story.

skinsfanthru&thru 01-13-2005 05:12 PM
Why?

I agree. If Cooley hadn't panned out I'd quickly change my point of view but he did, just needs to strengthen his blocking skills. And while Miller may not have the speed of a Tony G., Winslow, or Antonio Gates, Miller is a very solid blocker and hands that act like they've got stickem on them cuz he catches practically everything in sight. but even if Gibbs is hankering for another TE, I don't think he'd be foolish enough to use a top 10 pick on one unless he was an absolute stud especially with way more pressing needs in other positions like wr, center, guard, and de(possibly also cb.) like I've been saying since last spring, the main uva player I'd like to see us pick up is Chris Canty and we could possibly do so with a 3rd or 4th round pick. Plus A. Brooks and Blackstock are beasts at lb but hopefully they are staying another year.

Daseal 01-13-2005 06:18 PM

Cooley isn't our TE, he's our Hback. I'm looking for a TE that's a dominating blocker with good hands so Ramsey can dump off. We often play with a TE, and though I think royal is sufficient for some time, if we can get a deal on a good TE this year I'd take it. Miller is what I'm looking for, but may be taken too early for my likes. We have more important needs for our #1 pick.

That's pretty funny I thought I read the same thing at first. That can't be a good sign! :FIREdevil I hope we don't draft anyone named Heath ever agian. :joke:

TheMalcolmConnection 01-13-2005 09:09 PM

Excellent maybe in 2035.... maybe Heath Manning?

BDBohnzie 01-14-2005 11:18 AM

http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/playerprofiles/te/heathmiller.html

Miller could be a good addition, however not at #9, especially since he is not a Gonzalez/Heap type TE.

Miller (6'5", 255) isn't as big as Cooley (6'3", 265)...but he's about as big as Robert Royal, our current TE (6'4", 257)...

Cooley is definitely our H-Back...he progressed very well at that position. Royal will pan out as a good TE, not a top tier, but a hard nosed guy who will be a workhorse for Gibbs...drafting Miller at 9 doesn't make sense...especially when we have other needs to fill.

skinsfanthru&thru 01-16-2005 01:11 AM

I was surprised to see heath miller is one of the top 10 ranked players as of now for the draft by Mel Kiper. I think the list even showed him as the 4th rated player but I'm not sure if the list they showed was an actual ranked list.

Gmanc711 01-16-2005 02:05 AM

If he's going in the first round, I would say pass on him. We a couple things that are huge needs on our team that we have to adress in the first round (WR/DE).

If we dont get a new TE before next season, I'll be happy as a clam to have Royal lining up for us. I think he earned the shot this season, to be a starter next year. He's at least a solid guy for the job. Like was mentioned, if we could get a good TE, we shoudl, however, just if we can after we take care of other things.
