Re: What did you do at work today?
I sent emails to China telling them their quality sucks.
I found more crappy stuff in the warehouse proving that their quality sucks. I wrote up a report billing back China for some of their crappy stuff. I assisted in reviewing material that came back from the field because sometimes we build crappy stuff. I watched one of my peers have a bitching fight with his wife on the phone because apparently she wrecked his SUV which he needed for his big hunting trip next week. Now I'm eating mac and cheese and will chase it with some Reeses Pieces. |

Christmas 2011 -- Birth of a New Tradition As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide Americans with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods -- Merchandise that has been produced at the expense of American labor. This year will be different. This year Americans will give the gift of genuine concern for other Americans. There is no longer an excuse that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced by American hands. Yes there is! It's time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to fit in a shirt box, wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper? Everyone -- yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local American hair salon or barber? Gym membership? It's appropriate for all ages who are thinking about some health improvement. Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car detailed? Small, American owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates. Are you one of those extravagant givers who think nothing of plonking down the Benjamines on a Chinese made flat-screen? Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or driveway plowed all winter, or games at the local golf course. There are a bazillion owner-run restaurants -- all offering gift certificates. And, if your intended isn't the fancy eatery sort, what about a half dozen breakfasts at the local breakfast joint. Remember, folks this isn't about big National chains -- this is about supporting your home town Americans with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open. How many people couldn't use an oil change for their car, truck or motorcycle, done at a shop run by the American working guy? Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip. And, how about going out to see a play or ballet at your hometown theatre. Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands. Honestly, people, do you REALLY need to buy another ten thousand Chinese lights for the house? When you buy a five dollar string of light, about fifty cents stays in the community. If you have those kinds of bucks to burn, leave the mailman, trash guy or babysitter a nice BIG tip. You see, Christmas is no longer about draining American pockets so that China can build another glittering city. Christmas is now about caring about US, encouraging American small businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams. Forward this to everyone on your mailing list -- post it to discussion groups -- throw up a post on Craigslist in the Rants and Raves section in your city -- send it to the editor of your local paper and radio stations, and TV news departments. I flew down to GA for a BIT session, only to have our test system fail due to some classic lack of initiative in Brazil. Now to fly back home and do it all again next week. yay.

Re: What did you do at work today?
I didn't work today because I only work pt on Thursdays through Sundays.
But I did have a productive day. Ate a healthy breakfast, drove out to my boss's house in Vienna to discuss some things and pick up some supplies, came home, grilled some chicken for my lunch and dinner until next week, ate lunch, read some of this book I'm reading ("Working Fire: The Making of a Fireman" by Zac Unger), took Everything Must Go back to my local Redbox, cashed my check, hit the gym, and now I'm back home again about to eat dinner and watch the Caps beat the Stars before relaxing and watching SOA and new episodes of Tosh and Workaholics. Then get up tomorrow and repeat the process before I go to work on Thursday. :) |

Re: What did you do at work today?
Analyzed some financials. Told my team to financially analyze some finances. Explained to my boss how we went about developing the analysis of our financial situation. And so on.
Then I ate crow on my defense of Albert Haynesworth stance in the Haynesworth thread. Tasted funny, but feels better. |

Banfield is so much better. And they pay more. I've wanted to apply for jobs there so bad but apparently you have to be unemployed from Petsmart for 6 months before you can apply there. |
Re: What did you do at work today?
I wrote several homowners in the morning.
Worked on a few customers policies. Lost a long time customer which sucked due to rates. Set up a meeting in Richmond. Delivered a proposal to do to a short term disability policy for a 50 person company. Our club had a board meeting last night at 6:30 and sense I'm now the pres I had to run the meeting. Decided to scratch our chilifest and now we are going to do a Beer, Band & BBQ festival. |

6 months isn't that long. Just bide your time and focus on the task at hand and before you know it, you'll be able to apply there too to get out of that kennel. |
Re: What did you do at work today?
Smoot, I expect to see a report on "What's wrong with Skip Bayless" in the near future.
Today: -walked next door to hospital cafeteria to grab breakfast to go. we get discounts ;) -grabbed a cup of java from co-workers office -doing inventory on blades/switches throughout campus since administration apparently can't keep records of the stuff we sent last year. -checking a faulty TrippLite 5K unit that probably needs to be replaced -getting a second cup of java |

Re: What did you do at work today?
typical work from home day for me:
-roll outta bed 5 minutes before I have to start my day -coffee, coffee, and maybe some more coffee -eat lunch around 11 -lunch break at 1, go out for a run -shower, back to work at 2 -listen to some music, NFL radio, or Stern -watch the clock the rest of the day |
Re: What did you do at work today?
Today I am preparing examples to show our Australian national who is VP of our China office how bad China's quality is.
He will look at then, ask me to create and track another spreadsheet which he will show to the Chinese and they will not perform any tangible corrective action but instead will tell us that they punished their workers like they always do. I am also measuring some new stuff that does not fit on our measuring fixture but the tech that asked for the info doesn't give a rats ass and said to get the data "close enough". I filed some supplier certifications that no one cares about. I have stacks and stacks of them and no one has looked at them in over a year. |

I work across the street from U of MD Hospital and I get a discount. I can get a full meal of rotisserie chicken, two sides, cornbread, and a drink for about 6 bucks. The food is pretty good and since I eat a lot of vegetables it is pretty healthy too. |

Indeed it is. They even have the calories and nutritional info displayed on all their cooked food here so it's a bonus as well. |

I tend to agree the two times I went for my children being born the food in the cafeteria was always good, especially breakfast. |
