Jaguars Being Sold

According to Schefter, but no news to what city. L.A. maybe?

AdamSchefter Adam Schefter
Filed to ESPN: Jaguars employees were informed today that the team is being sold.

Re: Jaguars Being Sold

The NFL is desperate to put a team back in LA, so yeah probably them.

Re: Jaguars Being Sold

Why? So they can move out of LA once again? They don't deserve another NFL team, they've had many chances already.

Scheft's Recap of the Jaguars...

"AdamSchefter Adam Schefter
So to recap: Jags fired their HC, extended their GM and are selling the team. Other than that, pretty quiet."

I wonder if this GM had any decision on cutting their starting QB two days before the season started and picking Gabbert.

They didn't want to be on the hook for Garrard's contract for that year so that's mostly why he was cut. I thought it was a horrible idea to start a rookie with such little talent on the offensive side of the ball. (OL/WRs) Should have let Garrard roll this season and let Gabbert sit and learn. Sometimes you can destroy a young QBs career by starting them too soon. If they lose confidence, it's all over.

Quick, grab a baseball bat and take out the kneecaps of our best players on the team. We've got to lose, just lose, lose, lose!! [/sarcasm]

I'd be shocked if they didnt end up in LA.

SmootSmack 11-29-2011 11:31 AM

I was just wondering about this morning actually when I heard Del Rio was fired.

The big rumor for months has been that a deal has actually been place for someone to assume minority control from Weaver for about a year and then take over.

That rumored new owner...current Redskins minority owner Fred Smith. We'd miss him

Re: Jaguars Being Sold

I agree with NC.. La doesn't need another NFL team and Jags won't draft a QB come on guys

SmootSmack 11-29-2011 11:33 AM

If I recall correctly Jags have a ridiculous lease in their stadium that will make moving to LA very difficult

skinsfan69 11-29-2011 11:35 AM

Re: Jaguars Being Sold

Jacksonville is the pits. I'm actually shocked they've lasted this long. That city can't support an NFL team, although they seemed to do well when Brunell was in his hey day. I just hope LA doesn't get another team. They had two teams and both left. That should tell you something.

Just read that a condition of the sale of the Jags is that the team will remain in Jacksonville.

LA Hollywood here they come, supposedly a stadium is being built for a new team to move to LA. I bet they end there.

Man, talk about a "blah" franchise... everything about them, the uniforms, the emblem, just blah. They might as well be in the Arena league.

The Jags sure could have used a player like Newton, or even Tebow. They have nobody there to get people excited and put butts in the seats.

They were a solid team during the Coughlin years.

Re: Jaguars Being Sold

Yeah people forget the 14-2 season and the BEAT DOWN on Miami in the playoffs..

Brunell
Taylor
McCardell
SMITH

They were loaded
136 130 0 All-time regular season record (1995–2011)

I'd take that

Shahid Khan, whose name means "Martyr King," obviously just wanted to own a team and wasn't overly concerned about which one.

The Jags are definitely the #2 team in that town behind the Fla Gators. People in Jax just arent that interested in pro football.

They would be if the team didn't suck as bad as it does now. Horrible drafting has been a huge factor in their downfall.

Re: Jaguars Being Sold

Rumor is Gruden could be the next coach in Jacksonville...Jay Gruden

Interesting that Coughlin and Del Rio had the exact same number of wins

I think the Chargers are the leading contender for a move to LA

Don't know why. Tebow is still garbage, and will not be their starting QB come next year. Even Elway has publicly said their QB position has not been answered yet.

Re: Jaguars Being Sold

My only interest in this is that I just hope it doesn't put Jax in the QB market. New owner & new coach could mean a new QB. A new owner is not going to care what draft picks the last owner wasted on a QB...

Re: Jaguars Being Sold
The NFL is desperate to put a team back in LA, so yeah probably them.
LA has a few conditions. First no salary cap. Second give them the best player in the league. Third, the right to pluck players from smaller markets at will for pennies on the dollar. Only then will LA accept an NFL team.

Yeah this is my complaint. I don't care about number of people and $$$ the issue really is if the team sucks no one goes to watch them. Oakland bounced how many times and couldn't sustain a decent $$$ or even get the city to build them a new stadium.

I'd rather another city get a shot at hosting them vs. a retread city. Their AFC right? put them in Richmond VA and call it a day. lol.

Or if the UFL is not coming back bounce them to NFL status and lets keep the VA Destroyers. Besides I liked their colors. lol.

Edit: In reality it's Jerry Glanville. Oops... who has Jerry? the Destroyers have M.Schottenheimer. ;)

With the way Gabbert has looked regardless of the ownership situation they might be looking to go QB again in the draft. He's been pretty bad.

I'd be surprised if the Jaguars gave up on Blaine Gabbert. They just extended their general manager Gene Smith's contract. And he's the one who really wanted Gabbert, not so much Del Rio
