Obama is really blowing it with this lost drone issue.
He politely asked the Iranians to give the drone back.
How stupid does that make him look? Did he really think he had a chance in hell of getting it back? It should have been JDAMed into smithereens days ago. This is Iran we are dealing with, not Mexico. Is he channeling Jimmy Carter? |
Re: Obama is really blowing it with this lost drone issue.
Was he planning a hostage rescue mission in Iran of......very small hostages?
|
Re: Obama is really blowing it with this lost drone issue.
I'm baffled. Drone goes down and you think about sending in a recovery team then decide against it. Why? possibly too big to get out? Ok. easy enough send in another drone and or drop a missle/bomb on the first. Don't leave them with the drone to study it. HELLO. idiots.
Now he's going to "ask nicely". I hope he said "pretty please" also. We invade a hostile nations air space with a drone and they are going to "willingly" hand said drone back over to the country breaking their rules? |
Re: Obama is really blowing it with this lost drone issue.
Just storm that country with double desert eagles a la MW3. Style points count, you know.

Re: Obama is really blowing it with this lost drone issue.
This should make things a bit more heated in that region.

If they choose to try then I'm sure there are a few US Subs that could help the Iranian Navy get to see the bottom a little closer. I hope to heck the US Navy decides to just drive on through like bulls in a china shop. "Excuse us... coming through... Pardon us." |
Re: Obama is really blowing it with this lost drone issue.
Would we give another nation's spy drone back if it were doing missions over our country? Hell no, so not sure why he's even asking for it back.
|
Re: Obama is really blowing it with this lost drone issue.
Right, it makes him look stupid.
I wonder if his request was warranted so we can say that we exhausted all diplomatic solutions before we did something more drastic. I'm not sure how to read him. He did right with the Bin laden raid but he looks like a buffoon now. |

Agreed - basically. If it was a nation we wished to remain on good terms with, we would likely return it (say Mexico or Canada) after making a big stink and thoroughly examining it. China, probably not, but maybe depending on the circumstances. Even if credible evidence existed that it was truly an accidental incursion, the US would strip down and delay return of the property. I am just surprised there is no "Auto-destruct" or "auto disable" (don't want it accidentally exploding near civilians) which would, essentially, fry the internal workings. |

It's not worth any American or Iranian lives. Not sure what any one expected of him. He's stuck with the "oops, it malfunctioned, we weren't really sppying on you." I can't see him saying "Damn right we were spying on you. F' international law - We got 5 more drones over Tehran right now. Hell, I know when and where you took your last dump dumbass". At the same time, he is the same guy who sent the Delta team in to fight a firefight on a so-called ally's territory w/out their consent. Just a big egg on your face moment with no good resolution. |

Re: Obama is really blowing it with this lost drone issue.
How smart could the Damn Drone be? Obviously, we were unable to teach the damn thing to blow itself up....
|
Re: Obama is really blowing it with this lost drone issue.
Really, a simple bit of housebreaking and we wouldn't have this problem:
"Sit Drone, Sit! Now ... Play Dead!" <BOOM> |

They forgot to print the self destruction manual in Spanish , as the drone was made at a GM plant in Mexico :( |
Re: Obama is really blowing it with this lost drone issue.
Perhaps we shouldn't be putting sensitive pieces of equipment in harm's way if we don't want to take the risk they'll be confiscated.
|
Re: Obama is really blowing it with this lost drone issue.
they should have followed it with a missile/bomb strike on the wreckage... that's SoP.

Right, however that would mean we'd be "bombing" Iran. That opens up a whole new can of worms. |
Re: Obama is really blowing it with this lost drone issue.
I dont think Obama has many options.
its been reported they thought about sending a recon team in or "bombing" it. Im sure Iran anticipated a recon team and that option would have been another failure. Bombing would just rachet up the tension and perhaps give Iran the reason they are looking for to continue denying UN access to their facilities. Iran isnt Iraq, its not some desert country with guys riding camels and ak-47s. Iran recently took down our entire CIA spy network in Iran. The whole thing. Bolton said the scary thing is the thought that Iran has purchased jamming technology from Russia in which they could jam missles, drones etc. A much bigger problem than Iran having materials they couldnt begin to know how to replicate. There is a huge spy operative war going on in Iran and in the US (Iran operatives trying to assasinate ambassadors on US soil). Tit for tat. |
Re: Obama is really blowing it with this lost drone issue.
Imagine getting caught having sex with some guy's wife, and you turn around and call him the next day and ask him if you can have your boots back that you left over his house.

Just drive yer pickup truck straight into the mother F'ers livin' room and get yer dam boots back America... F Yeah |
I mean it does look a bit foolish but there are bigger fish to fry.
The drone is gone. So be it. Technology is always improving anyways. The drone also probably had some sort of self destruct but it may have not gone off. |

Over the past couple of years many of Iran's top nuclear scientists have been kidnapped, missing, or straight up assassinated. No one will say it, because it can't be proved, but there's little doubt that there's western involvement to delay Iran's nuclear program. And what better way to do it than to take out the handful of guys who possess that knowledge. I agree, it appears to be a case of tit for tat. They get a drone we take out a few of their guys. For what it's worth, a drone went down over China during Bush's presidency and they kept it for nearly three months before returning it. Bush sent them a letter of apology for the accident and misunderstanding. |
