2012 Free Agency Wish List

With the new league year less than two months away who are some free agents that you want the Redskins to sign (Excluding our own) and how does that effect who you want us to draft?

Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List

Dwayne Bowe, Marques Colston, Vincent Jackson.

Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List

Well, I would love to see Drew Brees come here so that the team need not spend a bundle to get a QB. However, I think that will happen two days after Albert Haynesworth wins the Olympic 100-meter dash...

Skins need upgrading at WR. That has been a need since Joe Gibbs was here - - in fact it has been a need for about 10 years. There are a bunch of talented WRs out there but some carry a ton of baggage with them:
DeSean Jackson
Vincent Jackson
Steve Johnson
Terrell Owens
Two who do not bring the same stats with them as the guys above do but who bring far less baggage are:
Wes Welker
Michael Spurlock
I would like to see either Welker or Spurlock here...

Of the DBs available, I guess I like Rashean Mathis the best. Cortland Finegan is talented but he is another guy who seems always to be in or around controversy/strife.

I said on another thread that I liked Jim Leonhard as a safety and he is a free agent too.

I don't see any Offensive Linemen on the FA lists that make giddy. I would not mind seeing Khalif Barnes in camp but I would not make that a priority signing.

Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List

I don't see a lot of FAs switching teams this year. In fact, IMO, two of the top 10 or so will probably be current Skins (Landry and Davis).

If we get only one FA, Cortland Finegan.

RB - Mike Tolbert. Short yardage back. Also a good receiver.

FB - Owen Schmitt. Compete for FB job. Good ST player.

WR - Dwayne Bowe or Vincent Jackson. Both are #1 quality.

C - Chris Myers. Great blocker. Good system fit.

Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List

I'm only signing 2 guys max. Those 2 guys;

- Brandon Carr CB KC

- Dwayne Bowe WR KC

I'm also not for getting two players in Free agency that play on the same type of position. Ex. 2 WR's, 2 OLineman, 2 DLineman, 2 LBs, 2 DB's..it doesn't help the chemistry which you've built with your team.

O . G . Grubbs

WR is tough one. I could see Eddie Royal and a #1 guy in Bowe or Jackson. E Royal I see replacing Moss.

CB- Grimes.

ILB - D'Qell Jackson would be huge.

I'd rather have Joe Adams from Arkansas replace Moss.

SmootSmack, with the rumors of the big deal at QB going down, have you heard anything about our interests in free agency? Any playmaking WRs for Luck?

What about VJax or DBowe? And let's say we sign Colston, Garcon, or Royal with this draft being so deep at WR do you think we would still use a first or second rounder on a WR? Say Mohamed Sanu from Rutgers, Dwight Jones from UNC, Jurion Criner from Arizona, Joe Adams from Arkansas, Ryan Broyles from Oklahoma, Marvin McNutt from Iowa, Kendall Wright from Baylor?

My guess is we land Colston.

He's looking for a big money deal, the kind that Snyder isn't afraid to dish out.

Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List

Yeah but how much of Colston's success is Drew Brees? Because of all the WR cores in the NFL I feel NO's compliments each other the best not saying they are the best but:

Marcus Colston- Possession WR
Lance Moore- Good route runner
Devery Henderson- Stretches the field
Robert Meachem- Good hands

They each do one thing pretty well but none of them are spectacular but I would like Colston, but I would still draft a WR.

I think you could also say it the other way around too. How much of Bree's success is due to guys like Colston or more recently Graham? How many times this year did you see Brees just toss a ball up in their direction and they make a play?

No doubt Brees is a monster, but I don't think Colston is a complete bum without him.

Very true the only thing is Colston will be 29 during the season and given our track record when signing other teams FAs I would still draft at least 2 WRs this year.

Although I really like Colston I share your concerns above and agree that we should have WR's (especially a field stretcher) in our draft shopping cart.

VJax: It's been kind of hot and cold with those rumors. Some days I hear the interest is very strong, other days I don't

Bowe: I know there are people saying it's possible but I myself haven't heard any strong interest

Colston: Matty may recall that I told him 2-3 years ago that we liked Colston a lot and were going after him. But we're going to have to outbid the Saints and Jaguars for him (and Bowe maybe to J'Ville as well), and Allen does not intend to get into bidding wars for them

Royal: Almost a lock...but then again so was Davin Joseph last year

As for the draft, I've only heard of interest in Wright, Criner, and Rainey

And Moss and Armstrong are definitely on the bubble

I would love to see this guy on our tearm, good bye Banks. Rainey put him all over the field has home run speed.

I want Eddie Royal. I agree that we probably will not get Colston because of the bidding wars but hes the other WR I want. I am so on the fence about FA QBs that I keep going back and forth on FA vs Draft so instead of putting it on my wishlist and looking for it under the tree, I am going to casually mention it to my parents so they will use their best judgement and hope for something awesome in the stocking ;-)

skinsfaninok 01-29-2012 12:23 PM

Eddie royal to me is nothing more than a PRKR, he's had like one good year and that was his rookie year

Some would have said the same thing about Moss when he was in NY. I am by no means saying Royal is our savior at WR.... He just makes the most sense when it comes to signing value vs signing possibility. He would be an upgrade from Moss, would contribute on ST, and would be cheap as we have "home field advantage" in signing him because he is from the area.

GTripp0012 01-29-2012 12:44 PM

Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List

If people said that about Moss in New York, they would have been wrong. Eddie Royal's one good season came as a rookie with Shanahan calling the shots.

I don't think that means Shanahan shouldn't take a flyer on him to see if he's got the same skill set he did in 2008, but chances are he doesn't, and he won't be an improvement over Banks in the return game, and won't give the Redskins a useful receiver in the passing game. Not that it's not worth a shot to see if Royal can surprise, but he's unlikely to provide any help here.
