QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign
Per CrazyCanuck's request:
If some of the rumored QBs attached to us were the Seven Deadly Sins Andrew Luck (Lust): The QB we can't have but desire so intensely Peyton Manning (Gluttony): Really because are we just gluttons for punishment going after yet another aging veteran with a big name? Robert Griffin III (Greed): Greed on the part of the team we'll likely have to trade up for to get RGIII Kyle Orton (Laziness): Really, we can't do better than this? Are we even trying? Mark Sanchez (Wrath): If we get him, a lot of people will be pissed (could apply to Colt McCoy and countless others as well Ok, Canuck handle Pride and Envy |
Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign
I think Peyton Manning could double as gluttony and envy....
|
Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign
Epic thread title.
|
Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign
I think Matt Flynn is Envy since people want him based on the idea that he'll become our version of Aaron Rodgers, and we'll start slinging the ball around like they do in Green Bay.
|
Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign
good stuff
|
Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign
Pride would be drafting a late round QB and keeping on the shelf to develop while the Shannahans put Rex back out on the field for the first few weeks, since they're too proud to admit that even they can't make him good.

Thank Crazy Canuck for the thread title

Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign
I'm gonna say Grossman is pride. Redskin attitude is that Rex MUST be good; he HAS to be good; we KNOW he is better than what we have seen so far! For goodness sake, the Redskins signed him to play QB, we know he can PLAY the position. We're too proud to admit otherwise.
|
Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign
Rex (Pride) - As in KS' blind stubborn pride. "We don't need a new QB, I can make it work with Rex. He'll cut down the turnovers this year and he's our best playmaker."
Tannehill/Foles/Cousins..... (Envy) - While our developmental QB is fighting his guts out we'll be envious of all the NFL-ready QBs we coulda had. |
Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign
Yeah the only reason I didn't make Rex pride was because I was trying to think of QBs that have been attached to us that aren't on our roster

Gonna take a stab at this despite my knowledge of the Spanish language being limited to "me llamo mooby": Mike Shanahan is an idiot for not selecting a qb in the first round? |

And then there's always Orton and Tannehil/Foles/Weeden One way or another, we're going to get somebody and as long as that somebody doesn't turn the ball over 25 times like Rex, the Skins will be better. They'll get a WR (and Hankerson will be back), some O-line depth (and Licktensteiger is back) and some parts for the secondary. Jenkins and Cooley are back as well. The Skins will be better! |

I'm actually warming up to the idea of a Manning/ rookie combo at qb next year. Maybe not a first round rookie but still

Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign
Lets say we did sign PM..
1. If healthy we have an elite QB for the first time ever, yeah he's old but even Favre was one game away at age 41. 2. Our OL is solid, have a big time LT and a solid backup Tackle that may move to RT. 3. Sign Pierre Garcon and another WR to go with Moss and Hank, Gaffney. Then with the 6th pick draft BTA or trade down a few and add more talent.. |

Interesting QB discussion with Jim Haslett. Seems to confirm much of what Smoot has been saying. On a side note, JH is a massive blabbermouth. You'd think that would be pretty confidential stuff... |
Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign
Per Adam S.
Q: With the Super Bowl now over, talk this offseason will surely focus on Peyton Manning. Where do you think he will land? Any chance that he goes to Minnesota or San Francisco? -- Herbert (Iowa) A: No, Herbert, Minnesota and San Francisco will not be in play. Remember, Manning will pick his team even more than it will pick him. Minnesota can't offer as much as other teams, and San Francisco will not pursue Manning when it wants to re-sign Alex Smith. The team that is the favorite in my mind to land Manning is Miami. The Dolphins can offer warm weather and a favorable contract, and the team has been screaming for a franchise quarterback since Dan Marino left. Make Miami the favorite for now. But we've already seen what being a favorite meant to New England in this Super Bowl. Q: What are the chances Washington moves up in the draft to the No. 2 spot to draft Robert Griffin III? What price would they need to pay in order to do this? -- Jimmy (New Mexico) A: Good question, Jimmy. It's hard to say the exact chances, but there's a chance. A lot will be defined by whether Washington can sign a free-agent quarterback such as Manning, Matt Flynn or Kyle Orton. If it cannot, the need to trade up for Griffin becomes even greater. But a team that loves Griffin -- be it Cleveland, Washington or Miami -- should make the jump to No. 2 to get him if it believes in him enough. I'd have to check the draft chart for trades, which I don't have handy, but I'm guessing for Washington to go from the sixth pick to the second is going to cost this year's and next year's first-round choices. If Washington or Miami can get to that spot for less than that, it should do it.

I Ran Into Jim Haslett and We Talked QB Draft - Hogs Haven Interesting QB discussion with Jim Haslett. Why orton now when we had a shot at him last year?
|
Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign
Why orton now when we had a shot at him last year?
I only mention Orton because nothing bad was said about him in that interview. Basically positives were given to Luck, RGIII, and Peyton. Negatives were assigned to Flynn, Foles, Tannehill, and the other rookie QB's. Nothing was said of Orton and since we have discussed him lately I guessed that would be a point in his favor. |

Maybe Haslett was just being savvy. |
