QB Combo Possibilities: Which Do You Want (QB Rumors: Verse 10)
 

Figured the QB Rumors Volume 9 thread was starting to run its course so let's start a fresh one (There will certainly be more news over the next week so we'll be starting the 11th version in mere days, I'm sure)

So let's run through some of the possible QB combos (talking just 1st and 2nd string, not considering the 3rd and beyond)

I'll rank them in order of likelihood, and you all can vote and tell me who you'd want as our starting and back-up QBs in 2012 (voting will be public)

[B]
1. Griffin/Grossman:[/B] The clubhouse leader at the moment, but by no means a lock. Griffin trade probably means losing a handful of picks this year (but not looking as likely a player will be traded, though still being considered). And the talks with Grossman's people continue.

[B]2. Orton/Tannehill:[/B] Rumors that Tannehill might actually be taken before the Redskins are currently scheduled to pick at 6th. I think that's probably a bluff, but regardless I wouldn't be totally surprised to see Tannehill taken at 6th because he probably won't last beyond 12th. Orton would be a solid veteran QB, my main concern with him is that he's kind of a dick"

3. Manning/Cousins:[/B] This could easily be the 2nd most likely scenario. The demand for Manning should be fairly high though and I don't think we plan on getting into a bidding war.

[B]4. Weeden/J. Johnson:[/B] Rumors of a trade down or trade up for Weeden at the end of the 1st round. And Bruce Allen's connection to Josh Johnson has people thinking he might come here. This scenario, however, is not very likely from what I've heard.

[B]5. Hoyer/Foles:[/B] Not much of a chance of happening at all. Hoyer's less likely by the day to leave New England...but if he does...

So which combo would you want?

easy question for me. option UNO. we have gone too long without a good quarterback, why draft another subpar quarterback?? Griffin is very special and his kind does not come around very often, we have to take him. Grossman knows the offense very well and i wouldnt mind seeing him as a backup but i think it would be good to bring in someone like Orton and a younger guy as well like Clausen or J.Johnson.

What Lotus said. Can't make it any simpler than that. The NFL today rewards teams who have playmakers at qb. Let's go get ours.

I definitely want #1, but #2 and #3 both would be ok by me. We need a playmaker, and in my opinion only #1 achieves that, but all 3 would easily put us in a better qb situation than last year, at least in my opinion.

RG3 and Grossman all the way. Grossman knows the offense, has played in it, and would be the perfect back up QB. Griffin III on the other hand could run the offense and be a dynamic play maker..

Officially, not before March 13. Unofficially, as I type right now

Wonder what the voting would have been like if I did something like Griffin/J. Johnson instead of Griffin/Grossman or Manning/Tannehill

I really don't know which of the combos I listed I'd prefer, which is why I haven't voted yet.

On the one hand Griffin/Grossman is great but we're giving up a lot of draft picks potentially. On the other hand, Peyton freakin' Manning! (even if he's not 100% healthy, he's still one of the best QBs in the league)

Well QB is our biggest need and our biggest topic of conversation in the locker room.

Impression we've gotten is that people don't like thread to go on for 1000s of posts so instead of one never-ending QB thread, we'll keep doing it this way

To be completely honest, anything other than Griffin or Manning as our starting QB will be extremely depressing for me. Its time to make a big move for one of the most important positions.

I know this is was not a poll option, but I don't think its outside the realm of possibility that we could end up with Luck at #2. I know everyone just assumes the Colts will take Luck, but Griffin seems to be all the rage at the moment. Given the Colts are losing the majority of their offensive talent (manning, saturday, garcon, wayne), they may decide its in thier best interest to get a more athletic, mobile, playmaking QB. Lets be honest, the colts offensive line is horrible. Luck would get killed. I'm not saying its likely, but i definitely think its possible Luck would be available at 2.

I think the chance of the Colts passing on Luck are pretty remote. Could happen, but will it? Highly unlikely. They seem him as the next Manning and probably rightfully so, why would anyone pass that up?

The it wouldnt have matter what combo Griffen woulda been put with, but Peyton is probably your gonna end up as your second highest for the reason you listed. Look, I just want one or the other at this point...i would be happy with either.

What the percentage we get either? 50% 75%?

I agree. I want RG3 the most or a healthy Peyton. i do not want any of the second tier qbs being our number one qb next year.

Plan A: Griffin
Plan B: Manning
Plan C: Orton

Just to add another twist to the mix (being the 10th iteration on the subject and all)....

If the deal to trade up to the second pick gets done early, is there any chance the front office may try to use the second pick to trade up to the first pick to land Luck?

I would love for the Redskins to move up in the draft and select Robert Griffin III. Grossman as the backup is ok with me. If someone jumps ahead of the Redskins and snatches RGIII then I am ok with selecting Tannegill in the six slot and taking Kyle Orton in free agency. Since free agency happens first, I would sign Kyle Orton. The combination of RGIII/Orton would be ideal.

About a month ago, it was a pretty serious possibility. But Colts appear 100% committed to Luck

Yeah, again my only real concern with Orton is that (from various people I've spoken to) he's kind of a dick and may not be the best locker room presence for a young like Tannehill. Grossman's just the opposite

I wouldnt be opposed to Griffin/rookie drafted in the 4th round.

Orton/Tannehill would be ok too.

Yeah I remember hearing he's "moody".

Oh well, I'd rather have that over Grossman and his 2 INTs a game.

Tannehill seems like a pretty good kid, I'm sure he can handle himself.

I dont mind 1, 2 or 3 but I am still have a lot of concerns with trading a bunch of picks for a college style QB. I would'nt mind a Rex-Tannehill combo either.

I think I agree with that but I also think it can't get to plan C. Plan C= Pitchforks & Torches out front of Redskins Park.

This fan base is so geared up for RG3 or Manning that to give them Orton would create a Jim Fassel backlash x 2.
