Richmond Redskins?

Interesting. Been hearing a lot about the Redskins looking to move their operations further south into Virginia (though personally I'd prefer Bowie)

Living as far away as I do this small of a move makes it a million times easier for me to make the trip. For my own selfish reasons I would love to see this.

Re: Richmond Redskins?

I live in Jersey so this doesn’t really affect me however, I hate this idea. You need to keep the headquarters as close as you can to the stadium. What next a Stadium in Richmond also. This would kill the Redskins MD and DC fan base.

MonkFan4Life 03-07-2012 12:56 PM

Man F Virginia. Nothing against those of you that live there but seriously, F going deeper into VA. Bowie is where you gotta go. It's our turn to have the team close.

Tell 'em to come to Woodbridge. There's plenty of open land right in the middle of the county between Woodbridge and Manassas. They can build their new practice facility there too. It'll be perfect.

What if it rains/bad weather? The bubble is back at Redskins Park which is 1 hour and some change away.

Re: Richmond Redskins?

would be cool for me, but not for the players. Richmond rivals the deep south w/its summertime heat & humidity.

Re: Richmond Redskins?

Training Camp is different than were they would be practicing during the season. So the practice bubble would be used during the season. A lot of NFL go away for training camp.

If they decide to move I'm sure they would have NO problem building another bubble.

I hear Brett Favre has enough land to host training camp.

It's just Training Camp. The Skins camped in Carlisle, PA for many years. Why not Richmond?

This would be amazing!

But i didnt think City Stadium was for sale? Maybe a temporary lease type deal? Also fyi City Stadium is a dump in a crappy surrounding neighborhood (not as bad as Landover though). But its right next to Cary Town (extreme poor man's George Town), walking distance to the Museum District and The Fan (where bars & restaurants are), but best of all very easy and immediate access to the highways.

They typically like some isolation but not too remote, at least it seems that way from previous camps. That area isn't that bad, has a little isolation & Cary Town & the fan as you mentioned, have a lot going for them.

I would be there every day. They played Richmond Kickers games there. Now I think it is just high school football games and other special events.

looks like they just want to lease it for a week or two a year. from the article you posted:
[quote]Hawley emphasized that the team is looking at Richmond as a possible location for a summer camp, not the team's training facility, which also is on the move.

The Washington Post reported last week that the team is considering moving its training facility from Ashburn, in Loudoun County, to a site near RFK Stadium in the District of Columbia, closer to their stadium in Landover, Md.

Far from home like Mississippi. Players could eat at Leatha's barbeque and blow off steam by catching bands at the Thirsty Hippo. WIN.

I dont see a problem with having training camp in Richmond.

I know DC wants to move Redskins Park into DC. The Mayor went to Tampa to get an idea of what a state of the art facility is like. He wants to offer a site next to RFK Stadium.

That was great

I wouldn't say the Redskins are ignoring fans in Maryland and/or ceding the state to the Ravens but I have heard their focus is to really target fans in DC, Virginia, West Virginia, and even North Carolina (strong Gibbs influence and still a lot of fans from the pre-Panthers days). FedEx is what it is right now, they'll be there for a while.

For those of us who would rather not pay that steep price for NFL Sunday ticket who live or will be living in North Carolina, I'd love more than anything for the 'skins to market themselves more in NC and possibly have more of their games played down there. It's said that where I'm moving from, I can catch every single Redskins game on TV, but just 40 minutes down the road, that's not the case! :(

I'd hate this as a PA resident. Instead of a 2 hour drive, it would be 4 hours.

Also, from the article:

[QUOTE]But the timing – late July to mid-August -- would conflict with the training for the Spiders and facilities might not be sufficient for simultaneous use by a pro team, a college team and other fall-sports teams for the Spiders
City and business representatives say the focus has shifted to Virginia Commonwealth University, which doesn’t have a football team or stadium, but has dormitory and sports medicine facilities.
VCU Athletic Director Norwood Teague confirmed today that the university has been involved in the city’s plan to draw the Redskins. Teague said VCU “has tried to offer some of our facilities that would work. We’re not sure what will work, and will not work.”
“That’s a tough time for us because (Redskins) training camp is during the time when all of our athletes come back for fall sports,” he said. “That makes it a bit problematic, but who knows?”
Teague said a combination of city, VCU, and UR facilities is conceivable, but such an arrangement would be unusual for an NFL team.
