2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Signed:
WR-Pierre Garcon (Colts) WR-Josh Morgan (49ers) Re-Signed: DE-Adam Carriker Shown Interest: TE-John Carlson (signed with Vikings) WR-Eddie Royal (Broncos) S-Brandon Merriweather (Bears) CB-Aaron Ross (NY Giants) G-Evan Mathis (Eagles) G-Ben Grubbs (signed with Saints) CB-Eric Wright (signed with Bucs) ********************************* Contrary to popular belief, we will be active participants in free agency. So we can discuss Redskins specific free agency news here. As per previous years, I'm sure there will be multiple threads started when a player actually signs. We mods will handle accordingly If the news is "Redskins bring in BenJarvus Green-Ellis for a visit" that's probably not new thread worthy. That can go in here. "Redskins Agree to 5 Year Deal with Eddie Royal" is new thread worthy |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
So just to clarify:
"Redskins hire new janitor" is not thread worthy? But "Redskins give Vincent Jackson 30 trillion dollars" is? |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
If memory serves me right it went pretty smooth last year.
|
We really haven't been. Big players in FA over the last few seasons, our last big name guy was lazy ass
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Needs:
1. ILB 2. Right Tackle 3. Free Safety 4. Strong Safety 5. WR 6. CB 7. Guard 8. QB 9. DE Need to go ahead and resign Fletch and offer something to Laron. With our second rounder gone, FA a little more important |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Terrel Thomas was resigned by the Giants

Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
The first new threa we need is "Redskins resign Fletcher to 4 year deal"

If you had to make a choice, $8 million a year for a 36 year old MLB who's been a rock for this team on an off the field for the past several years but probably wouldn't see the end of his contract or $11 million a year for a 29 year old WR who's arguably the best on the market but is one suspension away from being out for a year...which would you choose? |

Boy I don't even like the question. Damnit. I'd rather the NFL not do some stupid shit and penalize our cap when they shouldn't so we can just have both. |

Fletch...the leadership is invaluable...and we can find a WR somewhere else. I think our new QB is going to make our WRs look better. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
I just hope they sign Fletcher to keep this guy straight if we do indeed sign him.

Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Not totally convinced on VJax anyways. Lots of drama there. He fits the mold of the kind of guy we bring in that totally busts out with character issues. Great talent but could we count on seeing that talent used to its full extent here? I'm pretty dubious.

Fletcher, assuming that, for all intents and purposes, nothing was garaunted after next year (meaning we could realease him in 2014 without taking a hit). Given we have 18MM less in cap space that we did yesterday, Jacksons got too many red flags for that kind of investment. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
You sign Fletcher and then Josh Morgan.
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Defensewins mentioned a few weeks ago that we made an offer to Jacoby Jones last off-season, and he may be available again this year. Wonder if they'll make an offer

Hey, I bet he could get DeSean Jackson tossed too. :D Fletcher HAS to be a priority.
Defensewins mentioned a few weeks ago that we made an offer to Jacoby Jones last off-season, and he may be available again this year. I wouldn't mind this. Sounds like we're not going to have enough room to go after V.Jax and Fletch, so I wouldn't mind taking a younger guy at wideout and giving him a shot. I think RG3 is the kind of player that makes everyone around him better. |
I read somewhere that finn wanted to play where VJax played
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Time to let Fletch walk if we don't have the money. Love the guy, but it's time to say goodbye to players before that last contract. We are notorious for holding on to players for far too long. If it's a good deal for the Redskins, and we can get out of it easily -- great. Otherwise, have to let him go.
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
I say we go with the cheaper 25 year old Pierre Garcon instead of Vincent Jackson. I would like to continue along the line of signing young players who have yet to reach their prime but are getting there. You know.. like the Cofield and Bowen signings.
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
I really hope we bring in Eric Winston RT who just got released by the Texans last night. Great ZBS fit, 28 years old, and never been injured. I also agree we bring in Eddie Royal for a modest contract(compared to Vjax). Bring back Fletcher. Carriker, and Hightower.

If he was showing ANY signs of slowing down you might have a point, but Fletcher has not been showing his age at all. Still a Pro Bowl-level player annually, whether he's being recognized or not. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
I guess if I were the Redskins, I'd proceed like this.
Resign Fletch, Carriker, Landry (if the price is right and we are satisfied with his health progress) Sign Eric Winston Pick one or two from FA WR pool of Jacoby Jones, Josh Morgan, Pierre Garcon, Eddie Royal. Sign free safety (SS mentioned that Atogwe might be coming back under a better deal for us down the road?) As far as options at safety go if Landry and Atogwe pick other teams, I honestly don't know who I'd pick. I don't really like any of the options out there in FA to be honest. People mention Brandon Merriweather and Reggie Nelson but neither have been impressive. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Stay away from Jackson but get get Eric Winston. would be a huge signing for us. He is the only free agent really worth the trouble in my mind. But if you can sign young players to good deals go for that too. Otherwise I am already looking forward to draft day. STAY AWAY FROM VINCENT

Tell us how you really feel. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Sign Winston and Hutchinson.
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Winston is a must-sign for us. Age, price, position need and he knows the zone-blocking system.
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Resign- Fletcher and Landry (at right prices)
Sign- Winston, Garcon, Carr, Tulloch Bow out of free agency. And per PFT, Skins must absorb at least half of 36 mil cap hit this year. |
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Where did this Vincent Jackson hate come from?
|
Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency Tracker
Where did this Vincent Jackson hate come from?
from the fact that he is a typical big name free agent that the skins feel like is going to be the missing piece, when in reality he would never play up to his contract if he gave him one. |

So based on that? Which really in that sense means we shouldn't sign anyone worth a damn. Jackson, Colston, Carr, Nicks, Garcon, Finnegan, Grubbs. By your logic we should stay away from all of them. |

Holdouts, suspensions, contract whining, criminal behavior, typical WR ego... |

Jackson is a head case who just wants to get paid, Colston had two major knee surgeries, Nicks is a good guard but he might go back and even then isn't better than Evans and he wants to get paid more than him, Finnegan has had one pro bowl year but he is famous for fighting people and he gets beat, Carr is a good corner but market will make him super overpaid, Grubbs is a good guard but how much is he worth? Winston is the one guy I do like from his highlights and what i've seen. I would go after him for the right price. I would sign young players than can add depth. Also see Adam Archuleta, Bruce Smith, Albert Haynesworth, Randel El, Lloyd. We don't have a great track record with free agents. Great teams stay away from the huge names and build through the draft, see Giants, Packers, Steelers, Patriots, Ravens. All the best players for those teams were drafted. But the new management for the redskins seems to understand that, which means we might have a bright future if Snyder doesn't interfere |

Nice. Completely forgot about Hightower and a younger Royal is better than the Moss we have now. |

Why do people keep acting like freaking Vinny is still running the show here. :cussing:
I agree thats why I said we have new management, but Snyder is still there. And a deal to get Jackson or someone like that would be something Vinny would do. They did make a deal to bring an aging McNabb to come play quarterback so its not like they are a perfect team as of now. But we seem to be using to the draft instead of free agency which is why I said I think we have a bright future with this management. |
