Already being discussed in multiple threads elsewhere, so let's just go ahead and start a fresh thread on it

If the Pats would take Haynesworth someones gotta take Gaffney. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
According to the cap numbers, Moss will account for $4,8 million against the cap while Gaffney would account for just $2.6 mil. Why not just cut Moss and keep Gaffney? More production for 1/2 the cap cost.

Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
Loved what he did last year, but it's finally time we buy low and sell high, Eagles-style.

Moss' release fee is around $4M (ive seen slightly lower numbers too), so cutting him wouldn't save anything from the cap. Gaffney's release fee is zero so we'd save $2M+ if we cut him. |

I always love the "I didn't do it someone hacked my account" excuse.

Maybe JG was referring to the Skins all along in his tweets??

Missed that completely. Man I'm so glad we got cap guys on this forum. Thanks! |

I just went to twitter to check out the freakout he was going to have about the trade and.... I don't think he has a twitter page anymore, because I can't seem to find it. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
He said it wasn't him, someone hacked his account and that he was going to delete the twitter account.
|
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
Gaffney at best is worth a 5th rounder.. If we get anything for him it would probably be a 7th rounder that could become a 6th should he play well.
|
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
The Redskins need more competition at Receiver while the Offensive Linemen are honored with tenure status.

Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
I liked Jabar Gaffney. This upcoming season is the last year of his contract. But if he really has to be traded, I hope the Redskins get a mid round pick or a quality player.
At least RG3 can claim his #10 now. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
My comment from a previous thread...
Maybe the Eagles can tell us how they convinced the Pats to give them a fifth rounder for Greg Lewis, so we can ask for a 4th or 5th rounder for Gaffney. Lewis was 30 at the time and did not have anywhere near the productivity that Gaffney had last season. I read a rumor somewhere might have been on twitter .. Aquib Taleeb (sp) for Gaffney in some sort of deal .. may have just been a pipe dream .. but I like it ... we have Raheem who can work 1 on 1 with him that would be awesome at depth

Talib has entirely too much baggage. If Bruce Allen agrees to that type of trade, I'd be surprised even though Bruce Allen drafted Talib when he was the Bucs GM. The Redskins need to seek a draft pick for Gaffney in the coming days. If the Redskins make a trade for a player, it should be a player who can stay out of trouble and has proven to be a solid contributor to the team the Redskins will make a deal with. |

Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
A 5th or 6th seems more than fair.

It's just people speculating, putting two and two together....personally, I'd probably do it |

Even with talibs long list of character defects? |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
I would too. It's kind of like Pac Man...if he doesn't work out, you cut him loose. There's only so much damage in the locker room that Shanny would deal with before booting him to the curb.

Well...it would concern me that he's be another "reclamation project" on defense, particularly the secondary. But realistically, you're going to get at best probably a 6th round pick for Gaffney. If you get anything at all. Is a 6th round pick really all that much better than Talib? If Talib pays off, he has the potential to pay off in a big way. I guess maybe the first thing I'd potentially propose is Gaffney and one of our 6ths for Talib and their 5th. That sounds pretty fair |

Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
I'm all for giving guys a 2nd chance but Talib is a train wreck. I hope we don't bring him here.
|
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
I'm down for Talib.
|
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
Bring him here for a 1 or 2 year (at most) deal as a trial. If he ends up stinking or not keeping his nose clean, cut him lose.

Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
Talib not an option:

Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
I would stay as far away from this kid as possible. He has way too many issues that overshadow the talent. Plus we seem to have a decent locker room, just wouldn't want to add him to the mix. Plus if he came here, he would seem to be one of those guys that play a year at a high level and then hold out for ridiculous money and cause another issue. I'd just stay away from him.
seems to be an immature idiot that blames everyone and everything on his problems. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
Talib is definitely the exact opposite kind of guy we've been trying to build the team up with. I know we're just speculating but I don't see it happening.
|
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
Talib is a jackass. He's a serious NFW in my book. I don't care how good he is.
|
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
It's fine if you want to take a risk on a guy, but taking risks on several guys at the same time will most likely spell disaster.
Let's look at the current. We potentially have 2 starters that are a piss test away from a year suspension. Huge risks to say the least. Bringing in another starter who could potentially be doing time or suspended is another huge risk. So, you have to ask yourself is it worth potentially losing 3 starters just on stupidity alone? Not in my book. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
Question, is there a length of time before the 3rd strike goes away? I mean TW is a young guy obviously, and that is a heck of a hammer hanging over the rest of his career. Let's say he plays clean for the rest of this contract and his next one, he would be about 30, would he still be facing a year suspension on a failed test? Or does it reset after x number of years?

It does appear that their drug intervention program allows them to reset the record (so to speak) if they go through Drug Stage 2 intervention without going to Stage 3 will be cleared. I think stage 2 lasts two years. If they are in stage 3 of the program, then they will not get to reset their records from the looks of it. Since they've failed 3 drug tests, they very well could be in Stage 3 and they have to be clean the rest of their career.
Completion of Stage Two: A player who completes Stage Two without being advanced to Stage Three will be afforded the same status as a player who had never by Behavior or a Positive Test been referred to the Intervention Stages.
Also to note. If a player is in stage 3, he's in it for the rest of his career so no mulligans it looks like.
Term: A player in Stage Three will remain in Stage Three for the remainder of his NFL career.
http://images.nflplayers.com/mediaResources/files/PDFs/PlayerDevelopment/2010%20Drug%20Policy.pdf |
