So... what was it one day of OTA's? It was my understanding that this was one of only like 3 or 4 manditory OTA's (I'll say 3) and it was supposed to be a week long. No? |

The article said it was not manditory. Can any of them be manditory? |

anyone got a link to some pictures/video of the practice today?

Re: Redskins OTAs
I'm guessing Goodell is going to fine the skins for having contact in practice after the Shanny incident.

Sorry Matty for not paying attention to the dates. Firstdown....I was just going off what MS said earlier I think it was last week with him saying (or so I thought) this was one of the few manditory camps they are allowed to have scheduled. |
Re: Redskins OTAs

The new indoor facility looks pretty neat, maybe a little small though. Probably came in handy yesterday as i think it was raining up there.

I would like to see them both clean out their lockers... They were good Redskins in their day but we are going young and I would rather see RG3 spend his time building a rapport with the players that will be here for the long term. |

Re: Redskins OTAs
Still need reliable vets to compliment "going young".

Ok sarcasm. Yes it is a good idea as a matter of fact. Do Moss or Cooley project as starters at the moment? I could be wrong but i think Cooley makes about 6 mil and Moss maybe 3 or 4...So you want to have about 10 mil in salary invested in players that will probably be sitting on the bench? Those 5th-7th round players that you dismissed have not peaked and may actually improve with playing time plus they can play special teams and help the team in ways Moss and Cooley can not. If Cooley and Moss are not in the starting lineup then they are basically useless other then as insurance against injury. And if they are in the starting lineup then it's not at the expense of the players you are thinking of, rather it's at the expense of players like Hankerson, Garcon, Morgan, Paul, Davis who we are hoping are the future of the offense. So yes the way things stand right now if given the choice I would prefer they are not on the team. |
Re: Redskins OTAs
Starters or not, both should see significant playing time.

Moss maybe...but IMO that would be bad in a way because it means are young guys are not progressing. As for Cooley he has not been healthy since 2008. He used to be a good player but he's finished and Redskins fans don't want to accept it because he's such a fan favorite. He's slow and injury proned now. he has not had any yards after the catch in 3 years. I honestly don't think Cooley is going to make the team. I think Moss fate will be determined by how the rest of the WR's look between now and the final cut in August. |

Cooley was healthy in 2010 and had 77 catches in this offense. He's 29, not 39. Odds are he still has some productive years left. |

Disagree completely on Cooley...I think he is a shell of the player he used to be and we need to cut bait. And he was my favorite player on the team in his prime like he was for a lot of us...but I think it's over. The guy who used to catch a 7 yard pass and then drag defenders for another 5 yards is gone for good... |
Re: Redskins OTAs
Starters - Garcon and Hankerson, Moss in slot.
|
Re: Redskins OTAs
Cooley's future here all depends on his knee. If he's healthy I have no doubt he can still play.

Re: Redskins OTAs
Starters - Garcon and Hankerson, Moss in slot.
Sure Moss has a shot for that with a good summer but the fact that they almost signed Eddie Royal for that slot job is proof that Moss is not exactly on the firmest of ground. |

Not against it but was not in the sign him at all costs camp either. London is a little different...he's team captain and we did not have anyone on the roster that we could even project into his role. the offense on the other hand is getting a complete makeover and these players were talking about are not in the long term plans. Obviously if one or both of these guys is so good this summer that they earn starting roles they will be back but I just don't see it happening and i sort of think it's time to move on to a new era with the offense. |
Re: Redskins OTAs
players still in their rookie contracts are like friends who do favors for you and accept a case of beer as payment
signing a free agent is like going to the phone book and paying someone full price |

I heard him say somwhere that he's the healthiest he's been in years. Couple that with him trimming down a bit, and he could be bounce back really nicely. It's a TE league these days. Certainly can't hurt to have a vet stud and a young stud, especially as a security blanket for a rookie QB. |

Re: Redskins OTAs
i want the best players on the field. if that's cooley, great, if not, great. he can still play though and being 29 isnt a death sentence. same for moss.

Well, Thompson shouldn't be too hard on himself. He was just doing his job. In not blaming Shanahan at all, but as a head coach you have to be a little more vigilant to what's going on out there on the practice field. Football players are running full speed ahead and anything can happen out there- even on simple 7 on 7 drills. Fortunately, Mike Shanahan was okay. It was a testitude to his toughness that he was able to get up and wave a cart off. |
Re: Redskins OTAs
I heard Kevin Sheehan on the radio this morning. He was at the Redskins OTA yesterday and said one of the thigns he noticed about RGIII was how well his throws are. Said they looked better then any Redskins ball since Jeff George.
After RGIII the rookies who he's heard coaches have been most impressed with are our guards Josh LeRibous and Adam Gettis. Apperently they have looked really good and it sounded like onat least one of them has a chance at being a day one starter. He also mentioned that the Redskins ultimately want to move Kory L. to center and that if Leribous or Gettis emerges as an impactful contributor then they would have that option. I think a lot of us have thought that Kory L. would be best suited for center but this is the first time ive heard it from a guy who is hearing it from coaches? I even thought when we signed Kory thats what he was coming to DC to do, be our center. Anyone else hear anything about moving Kory to center? |
Re: Redskins OTAs
What I like about what I am hearing is that we are starting to build solid depth along the line. We had good/average players to start with along the line but our depth players just weren't NFL caliber guys.
|
Re: Redskins OTAs
No one is talking about the state of the offensive line. That will be the main key as far as the offense goes. I'm still expecting the same starters from last season to start this season- Trent Williams, Kory Lichtensteiger, Will Montgomery, Chris Chester, and Jammal Brown should all be atop the depth chart. During the offseason the Redskins have added much needed depth along the offensive line through the draft. This will be the second straight year that the starting five have all worked together- so they should gel well since they have experience with the Redskins blocking schemes. Trent Williams should break out this coming season because it's time for him to place himself amongst the elite tackles in the NFL. Lichtensteiger and Montgomery are solid on the left side of the interior. Chester to me didn't do as well as he could have done last season but it was only his first season in the scheme. Lastly, if Jammal Brown can stay healthy for a full 16 game period we can have one of the more best offensive lines in the NFL.
