Re: RG3 impresses on first day of practice with Redskins vets
It's fine. Not going to make a big deal out of it.

Re: RG3 impresses on first day of practice with Redskins vets
He's going to be deadly with all the roll-outs and boots.

Re: RG3 impresses on first day of practice with Redskins vets
That's great that he can roll out left and right, but he needs to work on working out of the pocket. There will tough games where he will have to operate out of the pocket, he just can't roll out the whole game or someone will take him out.

Re: RG3 impresses on first day of practice with Redskins vets
Griffin likes playing the role of pocket passer and by all accounts he's done very well at it. I don't really doubt Griffin's ability, intelligence and/or work ethic at this point. Hopefully is maturity is on par w/ his other qualities because a rookie season, especially in DC, can be downright overwhelming.
That's why I'm looking for analysis of the oline's performance through the off-season. A good to great oline should make Griffin's rookie campaign much easier. |

Re: RG3 impresses on first day of practice with Redskins vets
It's OTA's. Beck and Grossman looked good in OTA's, and even in the pre season. None of it matters until the pads are on. But good to see RG3 is picking up the playbook quickly.

our run game is going to be based off the rollouts. Point being line up in a set formation that you can run or rollout a majority of snaps. If the D has to guard the whole field on that both running and passing lanes should be a bit larger. The pocket passing isn't going to be a huge staple of our game, but I am sure he will get plenty of practice at it. |

That's what Shannahan means by doing things never done before by other QB's. He moves so fast after the snap and I'm not talking about runing speed but play action etc. He rolls out so fast the defense is going to have to commit safeties to hold contain and protect themsleves from 50 yard runs. He is accurate while throwing on the run, "Santana Moss touchdown!!!". |
Re: RG3 impresses on first day of practice with Redskins vets
Pretty cool, cant wait till the season

I agree with you but I can also see some plays getting blown up. All they would need to do is rush a CB on the side they think he will roll out to and have the Safety roll to the side and cover the WR being released by the rushing CB. I do believe though some of those plays RG1 did get were either because of his mobility/speed and arm strength so I'm excited too to see how RG3 with his speed is able to seperate from defenders and his ability to get the long ball long. |

Defenses get caught cheating because the D is worried about protecting the edge, meanwhile Helu and Royster put on a clinic. |

I think that's what they were working on, Wednesday they might work on pocket passing. |
Re: RG3 impresses on first day of practice with Redskins vets
With a player of his potential playing in a west coast style of offense, Griffin III should do well. The fact that Mike Shanahan saw enough of him in rookie mini camp to name him the starting quarterback was going to happen eventually, but I expected Shanahan to name Griffin III the starter sometime during the preseason. I really thought Grossman would start the season at QB and eventually Griffin III would soon start sort of like what the Giants did with Eli Manning in 2004. But he's the starting quarterback now and it's good that he's learning the playbook quickly and gaining valuable experience in running the plays with the veterans at this early juncture.

I agree, besides we know what Rex can do. It would be redundant having Rex throw passes to players like Anthony Armstrong at this point. If need be, Rex can be thrown in at any moment and you would get the same results: good Rex or interception. |
Re: RG3 impresses on first day of practice with Redskins vets
RG3 was the starter from the second his name was called at the draft.
Putting Rex out there again would be a waste of everyone's time. |

Re: RG3 impresses on first day of practice with Redskins vets
Or since London Fletcher is the undisputed leader of the entire team Griffin III's locker being next to his was probably meant to be an influential move for Griffin III to take in Fletcher's leadership and respectability that may rub off on Griffin III and could very well have the most of positive influences on our young starting quarterback.

Because Gano, Garcon, Golston, and Gomes are just a few names in between Fletcher and Griffin |

Re: RG3 impresses on first day of practice with Redskins vets
Just read the Keim article Matty posted. here are a couple quotes that have me salivating for next year:
Not that Rex Grossman threw lollipops, but Griffin is much faster and throws a faster ball. He had one throw Monday to Niles Paul where you could hear it hum as it arrived. Griffin’s traits will give the offense a faster tempo. "It’s a total difference when he’s out there running on the play-action,” Davis said. “He gets out so fast. He sees the whole field. He can make throws other quarterbacks couldn’t make. He gets out on the play action very fast. Very fast."
Five thoughts: Robert Griffin III | Washington Examiner Every time I think I can't get any more pumped, I find out I am wrong. ... Just think of the young core of weapons on offense coming up together...this is such a new thing for the Skins, if people cant get pumped about what we are building they are just dead. |

I love how santana moss looked really excited and confident talking about "no limit to what we can do" with RG3, it makes me really want september to be HERE NOW!!!!!!

Re: RG3 impresses on first day of practice with Redskins vets
Two things:
Griffin says he is not in competition with Kirk Cousins because Griffin has already been named the starter. Not sure if he's being smug or just factual to ward off stupid questions from reporters. And in unrelated news, Griffin says he plans to make beignets for his offensive linemen. (Both Griffin's parents are from New Orleans.) In related news to the unrelated news, beignets are awesome.
