Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

Let's get some nominees so we can get a poll going before Thursday's opener.

Remember, these are the guys who are long shots to make the roster but will win your hearts this summer and convince you they have to make the roster if we have any shot at the Lombardi (the Sultan McCullough Award)

Guys like Darius Hanks, Trayvon Bellamy, Brian McNally

Monte Lewis to the Pro Bowl bitches.

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

It's always a skill player. So I'm going with Alfred Morris. He's going to be a banger at running back, and then all the fans are going to hop on the bandwagon "amg we need a Brandon Jacobs-type back" at least until he fumbles twice in one game.

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

He may not be unsung enough but i think that Royster will be are starting back with Helu spelling him. 1,200 rushing yards this season!

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

I nominate 7th round pick and DB out of Iowa Jordan Bernstine and 6th round pick Alfred Morris, RB Florida......Atlantic. I also am tempted to nominate one of the three OL we drafted but OL are rarely preseason hero's. Just harder for them without numbers to put up.

Also in light of Michael Irvins recent request to change the name of the Lombardi trophy I'd like to use my influence as a heavy hitting VIP/Warpath booster to "suggest" that the Sulton McCullough award be renamed the Marko Mitchell award. Again I a politely "suggesting" that you STRONGLY consider changing the name of the award.

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

As the leader of the Jordan Bernstine fan club I support Dirtbag's endorsment of him.

I would like to announce Tom Compton as my personal pre-season and season hero and savior of the OL.

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

I suggest it will be a split award this year but with only one name - Lewis.

Lance Lewis on offense
Monte Lewis on defense

Bank it.

The same guy as last year. Brandon Banks.

Very well done.

Offense: Lance Lewis

Crawford. Previous to the setback it would have been Minniefield..

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

I doubt if any of the draft picks will emerge during the preseason. I'm sure one of the free agents will. Namely one of the defensive backs. Cedric Griffin, Brandon Meriweather, or Madieu Williams will have a solid preseason.

TheMalcolmConnection 08-04-2012 11:14 PM

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

Agree on Banks. I think he'll flash at WR this preseason and maybe be a valuable backup at WR. If he can make it that way, at least he can still return kicks and punts.

Josh Morgan? Brandon Banks? Those types shouldn't qualify

That's what I thought. Prospects for the Marko Mitchell/Sultan McCullough award should be more obscure.

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

I would also DQ draft picks. I am pretty sure all of them are going to at least make the practice squad.

Dig deep guys!

Would Niles Paul be a good nominee for preseason hero?

Watch out for Roy Helu.

Banks for sure. I thought he was gonna be zero help on offense but, has showed some skills. He's turning into the X-factor.

Talking about people we didn't think would make the team BUT, if we eliminate banks, then I think Richard Crawford will continue his pace he started early in camp, get a couple of picks even.

Lol.

Boy that London Fletcher, now that's a name nobody's talking about, but something tells me he's primed for a huge preseason and he might even be ready to contribute in the regular season!

rypper11 08-05-2012 02:20 PM

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

Brian McNally.
Played DE in college but is switching to LB. He'll have some big plays at the end of a game and everyone will fall in love with him.
Don't think it counts, but Kirk Cousins will be an all star in each preseason game. He'll perform like the second coming of Tom Brady against guys not making a team.

skinsfaninok 08-05-2012 02:50 PM

Actually Josh Morgan would be a surprise coming off injury and never really doing much in his career..

I would be surprised if every one of our draftees did not make the PS (at least). Given what I have heard, I would be shocked if RC was cut free and clear.

Yeah, but that's not a preseason hero

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

Kirk Cousins could have some nice preseason games. He and Richard Quinn will have some highlights together in the preseason. :D

But, I'm going with Tristan Davis. Dude looks impressive physically.

Who is now #30 on D? He's not listed on the redskins.com roster but he looked good in drills.

League-wide, it's going to be Chase Daniel.

Good pick, that was my second choice.

Robinson. its likely him vs. banks for a roster spot.

I think Banks should be allowed in the conversation since 99.9% of us thought (atleast prior to training camp reports) that he has no place on this team after his sucky performance the past two years on special teams and non-existence on offense.

MTK 08-06-2012 02:07 PM

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

A pre-season hero is a guy that has little to no chance of actually making the team. Yet you will have those that are convinced the guy is the already on his way to Canton and we are making a grave mistake by letting him go. And what happens is the guy gets cut, perhaps catches on with someone else's practice squad, but mostly they just fall by the wayside and join the ranks of the Jesse Lumsden's or Sultan McCullough's of the world.

That's a pre-season hero.

Chico23231 08-06-2012 02:19 PM

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

Chris Baker for me...I think he qualifies as hall of fame, preseason material

Lotus 08-06-2012 04:50 PM

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

I would add to what Matty said that the preseason hero has a "who?" quality to him. Some people here are talking about "comeback player" award instead.

Re: Who Will Be This Summer's Pre-Season Hero

Maybe someone will jump out after the first game, but I am kinda glad that we as a fan base aren't looking to a no-name to make a major impact for once. I think that says something about the way our program is being built now, and for once, maybe we have enough quality players that we no longer need that one no-name saviour. That is as long as RGIII pans out, other wise the 5th string qb is my bet.

Maybe that is true for you. But for me, we have no chance to win a single game without the great Monte Lewis!

apparently Tim Hightower has now been listed as the number one RB on the depth chart. Dont know if that will hold until opening day, but its something.....

Tristan Davis.. He's got great straight line speed and should flash against future UPS delivery guys and make us wonder why he isn't the starter.
