Boo!! This year could have been a breakout for him, and he was already a force on short-yardage and goal line. Baker will step up...this defense has the right attitude.

Disappointed but in the big picture, he hasn't yet become a big contributor. Had the one huge game last season but that's it.

We have plenty of D-line depth and with Jarvis coming back, we're fine.

Shame, he could have had a breakout year with playing time.

Good thing we went out and grabbed Baker. Imagine we go with just 2 NT at this point. Extra spot maybe helps Gholston/Scott make the squad.

Jenkins and Golston can also play NT, you could probably stick Carriker there in a pinch too. I think we'll be ok.

side note - did neild change numbers? he wore 95 as far as i knew, but the photo of him in this article seemed to show him wearing 66, honoring the late dan turk?

Believe me, if a backup NT is our worst news right now (knock on wood) then we're in good shape. Better than it being a starter like RG3, Orakpo, Fletcher, etc.

Damn! Damn! Who will fill our beard quota now? As Lotus mentioned, this mainly sucks for Nield and his development. I don't think we'll have a big problem with players filling in for him, this is why Shanny preaches versatility. I hope he comes back strong next year.

Crappy news. He did well in relief last year. Second year in a row one of our DL went down in TC with a ACL tear.

To me a lot of those strike me as the type of guys that you could stick in as a third option in the 3rd quarter where the injury bug takes a big bite out out of your depth. Jenkins I actually think would be good but at the same time I feel like his talents are best used at End and putting him at NT means taking away potential snaps at End.

I think it's in our best interest at this point to find an Anthony Bryant type player to fill that roster spot. Better yet just bring back Anthony Bryant. Obviously the guys not a world beater but he works as a space eater. Then again maybe this Chris Baker kid will be that player.

Yeah that's pretty much what I was talking about. Baker sounds ready to go, and let's face it Neild is a rotation guy at best.

Damn but he was being pushed big time by Baker who plays both end and nose. I think Baker had the inside track on the roster spot. Good surgery can have him back 100% next year. Our season doesn't hinge on having Nield or not.

How does he keep earning a roster spot? Everytime I see a Redskin player make a bad play, all I can think is "man Reed Doughty sucks." I don't get why we let guys like him fill in depth roles on our team, we should just sign a bunch of starters to be our backups so that we have the best most awesome complete team in the NFL!

Neild was impressive in the opener last season against the NYG. How many rookie defensive linemen can claim they sacked Eli Manning twice in their very first NFL game? But he was average most of last season. Word has it that Chris Baker was pushing Neild hard to become the back up NT. Maybe by injuring his ACL and being put on IR at this early stage of the preseason, Neild actually survived being waived. I hope he can come back next season very determined.

Nield was a rotation guy but in his 2nd year I think we all hoped to see him take the next step and really contribute in short yardage or to sPell coffield. He seemed like a good blue collar guy in the trenches. Stay hungry Nield- see you next year.

Jenkins was a bigger lost last year then Neil this year. Neil had a few highlights but nothing to get to excited about.
