Chris Cooley Released
'Cause no one saw that coming
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
WOW. Sad sad day. Cooley has always been a true Redskin. I know that is devastating for him. Man….
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Any chance he returns on the cheap as was discussed earlier?
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Wow, this was one that some of us probably saw coming but didn't want it to happen. Cooley was a class act and a true Redskin. Hopefully if he goes to play somewhere else he returns to the organization in some form or fashion and continues to contribute to Redskins Nation. HTTR!
If there was any question that this is a new era in Redskins football, there's no longer doubt. Shanahan is putting his stamp on the team. Younger, cheaper, focusing on upside. |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
The only person who apparently ever suggested that has been Chris Russell. So if it does happen, he deserves all the credit.
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
That sucks! Thanks for the laughs and the good years. One of my fav's for sure.
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Sucks to see him go, but everyone's time comes eventually. I wish him well.
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Just reading the latest tweets sounds like Cooley is really bummed. Says it will be hard to put on another jersey.
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
One of my favorite Skins ever.
Hope he can come back with a discounted price. I really thought his move to FB and the thin talent at that position with Young not being 100% healthy would save him...but then again, reality says we can't pay a backup fullback that kind of money. |

Ditto? |

This. Thanks for the good times in the years of mediocrity. I salute you Captain Chaos! |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
It'll be weird to see the Redskins without Cooley. Hopefully he can return for cheap, but I am glad he's been given a chance to start somewhere.
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Couldn't be happier, in the sense of the team moving in the right direction. Love Cooley, but hey, this is no longer the team that allows players to rot away. Best of luck to him.

Re: Chris Cooley Released
All I hope for is that Dallas doesn't pick him up. Witten has a major spleen issue and might miss time, or hurt it again. They let their backup go to the Giants.
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
On the bright side this move saves us a couple of million on the cap for this year
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Hmm...I think this might be the end, unfortunately. I couldn't see the Skins releasing a franchise, all-time great for salary reasons, then bringing him back on the cheap. I have to believe they would spare him the embarrassment if it came to that.
Snyder, Allen, and Shanny are classier than that. |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Gano who?
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
I would love to see him back on the cheap but I definetly see him with his own radio show or doing some TV work in the area going forward.

Re: Chris Cooley Released
Unhappy. Not only do I love the guy, I think the Davis/Cooley 2 TE set is the strongest combination we can field (Paul is still playing like he's learning the position to me). Moreover, releasing Cooley is one thing, but couldn't they have gotten something for him by way of a trade? It's hard to believe he has no trade value -- heck, we got something (probably not much) for Kevin Barnes. I am just hoping that we didn't trade him means we're trying to find a way to get him back. Probably not going to happen.

Hasn't Cooley talked major trash in the media about the cowboys in the past, I can't see them picking him up. Now what Jersey am I going to wear each week, he was my go to one. |

Trade value with his contract and recent injury history? That's tough. |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
No more Captain Chaos. This is.... ALMOST.... as bad as Monk leaving, Green leaving, .......... It's nice to see the team getting younger and healthier but it's also a shame to lose a face of this team.
Maybe the Texans pick him up.... he knows the system. Or better yet maybe the Patriots give him an opportunity. Closest he might come to getting a ring atleast. |

Releasing a player like Cooley rather than trying to trade him is the respectful thing to do. It allows CC to choose his next destination, rather than have it forced upon him. Sad day. |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
They tried as recently as yesterday to shop him around but couldn't find any takers.
Or so they say, it's possible they did find a taker but out of respect for Cooley didn't trade him to allow him to choose the team of his liking. Either way, been known for weeks now that his days as a Redskin were done |

Yeah sad day... I was even wearing my Cooley jersey last night at my fantasy football draft.... I didn't draft him mind you, but I did have on his jersey. |

I'm with you on this but it also boils down to his knees. How healthy is he really? He's battled the same issue's for what two yrs? three? his knees keep swelling and he keeps getting less time on the field. Announcing is the perfect gig for him. He likes the camera and atleast we can understand what he's saying vs. Randel El. sometimes Randel just mumbles words. |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
LOVE CC....hate to see him go.......
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
While I'm sad to see this day come he can be added to the list with Clinton who took the team for granted and did not stay in shape. This is just as much Cooley's fault but I still hate to see him go.
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Sad sad day.
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Whatever happens he'll be one the all time great Redskins and probably retire as one.

Now what Jersey am I going to wear each week, he was my go to one.
Exactly. Of all the players he seemed like a safe bet jersey to purchase. Now no one is safe and there's not a jersey worth purchasing if we have to buy a new one every yr. Waaaaay too much money for a piece of cloth just for one or two yrs. |
Sad day for a GREAT Redskin. Wishing CC all of the best.

I wish him well and part of me is hoping we pick him right back up. I think he still has some juice in the tank.

Either way, been known for weeks now that his days as a Redskin were done
It's been discussed. It's been talked about. But as we all know there is always a golden child in every office. He was it. Never thought this day would actually come. I figured he would retire or (god forbid) get injured and not be able to continue which again would lead to retirement. The only bright side is him possibly being in the booth instead of Aikmen. |

There were a few trades discussed yesterday. But this is not the one I was talking about, nothing came truly close to happening with Cooley |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Contract made him un-tradeable.
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Cooley would, I think, do better in the studio on sports radio than as a color commentator in the booth
