Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
A lot of things right, and a lot more wrong. I'm usually not happy about a loss, and I sure am not happy about this one, but Tana Moss was right about something in his post game interview. Glad that this kind of loss happen now and the sting has taken effect in the locker room. This is the kind of loss you learn from and get better as a team from.
I look forward to next week opening at home, and feel sorry for the Bengals. - A few things about the game... I would like to see Morris get more carries, and less designed runs for RG 3. - Our defense was very predictable today, and I would of rather seen us play more tight man and get beat deep, then give up all that time on the clock as they gash us over, and over again for big plays. - RG 3 played good again. Made a few mistakes, but he is basically carrying our team and it shows sometimes. - I would like to see our team act more like professional athletes, and less like street thugs. The scoreboard is the deepest wound anyone can show you. |
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
Screw you Has for not adjusting your gameplan. That's what good coaches do when other teams carve you up in the first half with unheard of wide receivers.
RG3 did enough to win, especially combined with our defensive td. 28 points should be good enough to win a game, unfortunately defense let us down in this one. I'm starting to lean on the side of Danny Smith haters. It's been a trend going on for a while that we have at least one special teams gaffe a game, and that's indicative of a larger problem. Still hate the replacement refs, they clearly weren't able to keep control of the game and it showed. Longer they stay the more stuff players are going to try and get away with, and why wouldn't they when they know most of the time they'll get away with it? |
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
The good:
RGIII Hankerson Morris Fletcher Bowen The bad: Haslett Danny Smith Officials Morgan Going for a 62 yd. field goal instead of letting RGIII do something |

I know it might not mean much but I think Bob is for real,he's only gonna get better. The NFL has to do something soon about the refs, and it's across the league .Act soon before someone gets hurt!
I agree with you except the 62 yard field goal. I understood the thinking with that.
I think they should've let Griffin go for it. Cundiff is horrible from beyond 50, and we all know 60 is even worse than 50. They were basically saying the odds of Cundiff making a 62 yarder are better than the odds of RG3 getting the first down on 4th and 16. |
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
^ see I would have rather of seen RG3 chuck it up to the endzone to Hank or Morgan, like Oklahoma-Baylor pt 2.
I didn't like the way shanahan calls timeouts when the rams had just picked up 6 yards with 330 left (luckily it worked out with Fletchers forced fumble). I didn't like Carriker going down with a knee injury I especially didn't like Orakpo getting injured. I didn't like the fact that the rams had a 3rd string LT out there and we couldn't get pressure on Bradford still (Orakpo or not we had Rob Jackson out there who is a 2nd stringer still getting beat by 3rd stringers) Morgans flag..no more needs to be said Aldrick dropping RG3s bomb I didn't like the play calling of RG3 runs and less morris runs The fact that Danny Amendola beat our secondary all day The fact we lost to the Rams The way our defense shows their base defense to the offense often I DID LIKE - RG3 to Leonard B-E-A-utiful - London Fletcher - Niles special teams play - Morris's hard running - The Cowboys losing - The Patriots losing |
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
I'm sure people will miss this but Trent Williams played awful. I expected Polumbus to struggle but man the oline struggled today. I am disappointed in their performance.
The bad:

I was 100 percent sure he'd miss it and he did. Rg3 could possibly have done something. I also question using our IR exemption on a long snapper. We could have used that on carriker. |

The loss hurts but at the same time I was expecting to be 1-1 after the second week.

Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
The Oakpo injury seems to chronic. Something to watch. Loved that bomb to Hankeson, but didn't like that he bobbled it.
I like all of our RBs, but none of them can take it to the house from distance. Would be nice to have one true speed back like the dude who came in for Steven Jackson. Really didn't like that we won the turnover battle and got a special teams TD and still lost the game. That's what bad teams tend to do. Hope we can get Garçon back next week. |
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
With RGIII and putting him in instead of attempting the last field- I think it was absolutely the right decision. Do we all agree that RGIII is the redskins franchise qb for the unforeseeable future? Then why set him up to fail this early on and risk a setback in his development? who knows it might have been the play that he couldn't recover from. Look at romo and the botched extra point. That still haunts him.
|
The play after the whistle by the Rams was bad. What was worse is how the refs continued to let it go on the entire game. The true NFL refs would've put a stop to the BS early. Those non calls set Josh Morgan for his stupid mistake.
I can't understand why Morgan didn't just run through the pass for the 1st down. Griffin led him perfectly but he stopped and twisted back toward the sideline. Two costly mistakes on 1 play. I'm more concerned with the D at this point. 63 points given up in two weeks is ridiculous. It sucks to have an offense putting up big points but a D that is a water spout. The dropped long pass by Robinson was bad as well. |

Looks like Orakpo might be gone for a while. Do they bring someone like Markus White back from the TB PS? I say this cause he has experience with the system/Redskins and like him too. |

Agree with you. I think we had a much better chance for a first down over the FG. Obviously, Shannahan hasn't looked at the statistics for Cundiff on 40+. |
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
The Good:
RG3 Bowen Fletch Bomb to Mr Hanky Alfmo The Bad Refs Robinson letting that pass bounce off his f*ckin chest when we needed it most Silverblunt got beat bad several times Polumbus is a f*ckin disaster at Tackle Banks fumbling out of bounds, every week its something with him Haslett not making any adjustments Morgan the Ugly: Muther****in blocked ****in Punt AGAIN. No excuse and a fire-able offense at this point |
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
I think I"ll just add my Duds and Studs here. Dud's are going up tonight and I'll do my studs tomorrow at work.
Duds: The Refs- I'm not one to really complain about officiating or they they are biased, but this by far is on the worst called games I've ever witnessed in my life. The previous worst was the Eagles/Baltimore game I watched prior...lol They absolutely let this game get out of control and become a thug fest. (as noted by this tweet)
Rich Campbell @Rich_Campbell Darrel Young: "This is THE dirtiest game I’ve ever played in."
Jim Haslett - Horrible defensive game plan and adjustments (or lack thereof) for the Rams offense. Haslett was out coached big time today. He allowed a average receiever to tie a NFL record in receptions in the first half alone with close to 150 yards. His zone coverages were getting ate up by Bradford and the Rams offense. They also allowed 7 out of 12 third down conversions. Horrible. Defensive Line- No pressure at all this game. Allowed Bradford too much time in the pocket to eat up our zone. Also allowed a 5.5 and 6.4 rushing average of the Rams two RBs. All this with the Rams having key injuries to their starters. They should have dominated the Rams OL. Trent Williams - guy was getting abused like a rag doll out there by Robert Quinn. Josh Morgan - nothing more to say here except a bone headed move that added to our loss today Danny Smith's Special Teams - Another blocked punt for the 2nd week in a row. He's moved from having FGs blocked to punts now. How many more times is this guy going to get a pass? He's been getting a pass since the horrible special teams play back when Randle El was here dancing sideways. |
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
The Good - RGIII - He's a star and barring injury, he will be for years to come!
The Bad - Two blocked punts in two consecutive games. Unconscionable! The Ugly - Morgan taking away a great chance to tie the game. |

Best quote from the whole article.. "A loss just means they remain an inconsistent and flawed team, still." |
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
RGIII is fun to watch win or lose. He probably had an average game today, but he needs more help from his teammates and the coaches i.e. play-calling.
We were out-coached today. Not just on special teams, our offensive and defensive coordinators were bad today (Haslett really bad, but Kyle worse than you think). Mike was right there with them. Today's game was reminiscent of the last two seasons in that it's hard to see us contending under the current regime. |

Trent Williams had an up and down day. Robert Quinn is a great young pass-rusher who will be putting it on offensive linemen for a long time in this league. He beat Williams early on for a sack, but was held at bay for most of the rest of the game. Chris Long was the real terror, despite not actually getting a sack. Williams dominated Quinn on the ground. Shanahan used Williams as his bell-cow in plowing the road for Alfred Morris, who ran a majority of his plays to the left. It was disappointing to see Williams give up a sack, but I would not use that to categorize his day as playing awfully. |

The scoreboard is the deepest wound anyone can show you.
Absolutely disgraceful how our guys let the chippiness get to them -- I am so sick and tired of DHall getting in everybody's grill. I understand that he is the professional athlete and I am just a fan and jawing is part of the game but why can't you just act like a professional, beat them play after play, and then celebrate when you make a really great play? and no offense, but his walk just does not back up his talk. And Josh Morgan needs to be severely disciplined for his actions -- he essentially cost the game. Also, RG3 is taking too many hits -- he threw his INT right after taking a big hit and I am not saying there is a 1:1 causality but there had to have been some lingering effects. |

Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
I wish I could find a video of the defense today, and the snaps. The one were it's 3rd and 5 and C. Griffin is playing a 15 yard cushion. He starts back pedaling before the ball is even snapped. Ended up 20+ yards off the LoS and the Rams exploited it with a flanker route to the RB. He got 15 yards before anyone was near him.
|
We are going to need to score a lot this year.
|
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
This was a game where we were competitive. A 3 point loss is nothing to be ashamed of. Plus the Redskins are putting points on the scoreboard more frequently than in the recent past. I feel good about this team.
|
So far my prediction that this secondary may break the league's, passing yards given up, record is right on track. Sheesh! Fletch solidified my choice for new jersey this game though, he is unreal.
|
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
I think overall they played good but this was a missed opportunity and could haunt them if they get close to playoff contention.
The blocked punts are terrible, I keep hearing what a great special teams coach DS is but I dont remember the last time the special teams were special. DS needs to go. |
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
Not much good to say about this game.We were outcoached BIGTIME and outplayed. We won the turnover battle and still lost.Refs and Fisher {by not challenging calls}kept us in the game in the first half.
Never have thought Haslet was a good coach, his inability to adjust has been a problem his whole time here. Danny Smith has got to go,we can keep blaming it on players missing blocks, but when it happens over and over again theres got to be a bigger problem. Boneheaded move by J.Wilson.Almost as stupid was Shanahan going for 62 yard fg.There was no way,no hope in hell he was going to make that.We have one of the most dynamic and talented qbs in the leaugue and you dont let him try to pick up the first? Terrible call by Shanahan RG3 played well, again he took too many hits. The rate he's going getting hit I dont see him playing 16 games. Morris looked good, but I'd like Helu to get a few more carries because defenses know every time he's in the game look for the screen pass to him |

Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
I'm not surprised that we lost this game. Bottom line is we're still not good enough to just walk on the field and beat bad teams. My biggest issue was Jim Haslett. How do you let Danny A. go off like he did? Why were we playing 10 yards off the Rams below average wr's? To me that's inexcusable.
|
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
Shanahan doesn't instill confidence calling a timeout to ice the Rams kicker when he missed it then, makes it on the 2nd try. How do not put the ball in your QBs hands at the end of the game after all you gave up to draft him, instead attempt a FG that was out of range?!
|
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
Not much to say here.... hated the 10defense yard cusion the same as i did every other year we've been getting torched running it since Blache was here, get a ****in clue. And the field.goal? No. Let RG3 convert the 4thsame down maybe... the fake refs? Enough said. Danny smith? Bye. Josh Morgan? Dont dress next week. Haslettusdown? Wake the hell up. O line... keep trying to improve... jarvis jenkins? Its ur time to shine kid...
Lets go beat the bungles |
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
They were more physical then we were, I can understand the Rams defensive front pushing our offensive line around. However our defensive front getting abused by the Rams offensive line? You can blame the scheme, but our guys just got pushed off the ball. Bradford is not very mobile, and he stood in the pocket forever at times.
The other thing is the refs losing control, Fischer teams are notorious for dirty play. The replacement refs made some bad calls in our favor in the first half, but they missed a ton of the low hits, after the play hits. The skins obviously didn't handle this well, and this played to the rams advantage. |
Criticism of the D, coaching and execution, is fair game. Pretty bad stuff.
|
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
i cant believe how many kicks have been blocked on special teams in the last year. Im officially on the fire Danny Smith bandwagon.
|
Re: Redskins vs Rams Postgame Thread
I chose Morgan for Goat of the week, mainly because his one play was pure and simple boneheadedness. But more than enough blame to go around.
