Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
NY Jets get to face the 4-0 Texans on Monday night and now they may be without Santonio Holmes for the season.
|
Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
0-4 Saints vs. Chargers coming off a dominant win. Saints 0-5? Who who'da thunk it
|
Saints will beat sd book it.

So what is the over/under on Rex Ryan being fired at the end of the season? I'd take him as a DC, but I know Shanahan wouldn't have him because he has too much of a big mouth. |
Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
Told my co-worker after the NO that I was concerned that NO just sucked and our win wasn't as impressive as we thought. I'm pretty sure of it now.

Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
Holmes for season?
Holy hell talk about a s-storm of crap injuries. They're doomed. |

They were so shocked by the Redskins potent offense that we sent them towards a downward spiral of doom. |
Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
The nfl should be able to flex games to Sunday and Monday night by week 5. No one wants to watch the texans play the jets.

I do. J-E-T-S...Jets....Jets...Jets!!!! And Rex Ryan wouldn't come here |

He couldn't pass the conditioning test ;) |
Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
Why is everyone slamming the potential possibility door of Rex Ryan not wanting to come here. I think he and Shanahan could deal with eachother, being that he's a great DC and Mikes a good OC. I would put my ego aside and get him in a heartbeat.
|
I know I'm in the minority here but I want to keep our current coaching staff intact for at least the next few years. While the next great coach is always tempting, I'd like to have as much stability as possible.
Is the defense great this year? No, it isn't. We also knew we were going to have to cut corners (pun intended) due to the cap penalty. The defense is going to keep improving as we are able to plug holes and the young guys get better. There is no magic bullet that will instantly turn it around. This year, and most likely next year a well depending on how much cap hit is left, is going to be bad on the defensive side of the ball. I can live with that. I can't live with changing schemes again with a new DC and compounding that with limited cap dollars to find that coaches types of players. I don't see how that's successful. |
Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
Morris already has the DC job locked up
|
Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
Reports out of Cowboys camp have stated that Romo lost his cool in practice and threw his helmet. As expected, the thrown helmet was intercepted.

Morris gets credit for having his group playing tough this season. Both Hall and Wilson are tackling and hitting better overall this season. But I think the scheme is been wrong early and often. At what point do you begin to question Morris too (Haslett's lousiness is already established)? |

Honestly, if its a play calling only issue, I dont see how that can be placed on anyone except the play caller. I dont see how we can rail against Raheem if a cover 0 all out blitz is called against a max protect deep ball. Thats a DC getting beat by an OC. |
Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
Laron playing well in NY... Pick 6 recently as well.
LARON LANDRY – ... Landry continues to play well for the Jets. He had seven tackles and a pass defended. He was part of limiting 49ers tight end Vernon Davis to two catches on the day. GM Mike Tannenbaum is taking a lot of shots right now, but Landry was a good signing. Winners & losers from Jets Week 4 loss
Still agree that it was a calculated decision to let him go, given his injury risk, etc --> but if he stays healthy (ha!) -- it sure opens this for discussion. Ironically we replaced him with Merriweather who seems to have had even more trouble staying on the field. Always hard to look back, but Rogers and Landry both wanted to go, and both had issues. But given our secondary play so far, at least right now I'm now sorry to have lost them. |
Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
Merriweather hasn't had trouble staying on the field! he has trouble getting on it...
LaRon's been good but unless he goes on to play all 16 games and heads to the probowl, I still support our decision to let him go. |
Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
The Kansas City Star is now doing anything its power to not print the word "Redskin" in it's articles due to its derogatory/racist meaning. Can't say I blame them... they aren't the first and won't be the last to oppose the name. I wonder how long the NFL can continue to ignore this situation.
What's everyones opinion on a possible future name change? Ideas for new names/logos? I think anything to go along with the Nationals & Capitals would be cool. I saw Federals brought up in a blog, maybe something along those lines. The Washington Hogs would be awesome too, keeping a traditional feeling. |

Go to Indian reservations and a lot of them have Redskins/Indians/Braves as the high school mascot. So if its not considered racist by the Indians, then why are we having this conversation? I think the people who want these names to disappear are more racist to the Indians than the people who support those names being used. What better way to eliminate any Indian Heritage from the USA then to make sure you hear as little about Indians as you can. So the Kansas City Star can maintain the support for genocide of Indians all they want, it doesnt make them right. From a person with Cherokee blood running through my veins... and proud of it. |

We stopped at one of the Indian markets on the side of the road one day and saw a couple wearing Redskin hats. Also while driving one day to see a place called four corners, saw a high school on a reservation and their mascot was a Redskin. I know that none of this makes it right or politically correct. |

Not saying the two are the same, but some native americans have some pretty thin red skin....... |
Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
Words only have the power you give them. Seems like a few select Native Americans choose to make this an issue. The word "choose" was used specifically. Is there any great outcry about this anywhere?
|
Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
some one posted a ESPN article that seemed to be a weekly installment of like a "all pro" team. I thought it was kind of neat but can't find the newest addition.

Carlos Rogers says jets quit Sunday. Duh |

C'mon! I hate the age of political correctness. I hope they never change the name, might as well get a new franchise. |

And I'm shocked your from NYC. Twas a joke, not meant to offend. Jokes about race, religion, sexual preference, disabilities are the funniest jokes in the world, and people that take em seriously are too..........um, serious? I can't grow any facial hair from the fact that somewhere up in the vast branches of my family tree, I have blackfoot indian lines. Kinda neat, but getting offended by the term "Red skins" is a little ridiculous and touchy, at least imo. |

I'm a lifelong Redskins fan and can't even fathom a name change. But I have a hard time coming up with a credible argument for why the name isn't extremely offensive/racist (more so than other Native American-related names that do not focus on skin color). This is probably a topic to just leave alone. |
Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
would anyone be offended if we were called the washington whiteskins and had something like the patriots old logo?
it would be lame, but i wouldn't be offended |

Agreed. Washington Tecumseh's like the lawn mower motors Indian chief. |

Im going to boycott the Kansas City Star, so up yours!! filthy commie propaganda anyway probably!! Mid West weirdos !!

Re: Around the NFL...Week 5 Style
This is what happens when society places so much emphasis on being politically correct, or nice to people. Peoples skin, whatever the frikkin color, get paper thin (sorry trees), and they look for anything to complain and moan about, and be a victim about. Its everywhere in society, and the NFL is no different. This teams name will be an issue moving forward for how ever many years it is in existence, and I can see a time coming where it will be deemed constitutionally offensive or some crap and the owner will be forced to change the teams name in the spirit of harmony and being nice to everyone. Offending someone in todays society is a borderline criminal offense nowadays. Pathetic.
