Where does the fine money go?
I was just reading the cover story on NFL.com about the "Fine Round-up" for last week. I saw a few that are the "normal" weekly fines, but one caught my eye. There were a few (one on RGIII's horse collar) that rated the 10K fine, and then a few more roughing fines for a little over 7K. The one that stood out was a 10K fine handed out for a player making a "shotgun" gesture. Really? 10K for shooting an air gun? Got me thinking, where does the money that the players pay go?

It can go to the "skinsfaninok" needs money fund.

Re: Where does the fine money go?
Some of these fines are getting unreal. Especially the RG3 one. Said shaken up, yet didn't play him again. My favorite part of the NFL season is more and more booing Roger Goodell from my coach as the fans in NY boo him in person.

Re: Where does the fine money go?
When you think about it, it really goes into their pockets. They take the money, give it to a charity, and then turn around and use that as a tax write off which in turn gives them money back.
edit: ..and by their pockets, I mean the owners. Apparently it's not clear. |

No. They just pay the fine. The nfl gives it to charity. The nfl gets a write off I suppose but the player doesn't |
Yeah i dont think a player can write off a fine but if they can let me know. Ill start donating my parking tickets to charity.

Who do you think I was talking about getting the tax write off?...lol Certainly not the player. |

Well you said they get the money back so it seemed like you meant the player. But you are saying the nfl donates and than writes it off. I hear ya now. They are getting back a portion of what wasnt theirs in the first place. Still good that the charity gets a piece i guess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Where does the fine money go?
Concussion lawsuits from here on out.

Re: Where does the fine money go?
unless they're worried about people placing bets on game in progress, i don't think it really matters whether they wait an hour to specify the injury.
i mean, they took him out, he failed the first test, so they sent him to the locker room. he didn't go back in and from what i've heard, was fully coherent in 15 minutes or whatever. the union was okay with how they handled it, and so was the player... so what's the deal? |

That's just what Roger G. wants you to think. It's actually going to his personal vacation fund, why do you think he issues them every week? |

The $25K is then dispersed from Player X's team to the NFL and NFLPA in a 50/50 split. The team would be deducting the $ 25K as either a salary, without the fine, or as a payment to a charity as a fine. Either way the team takes the same deduction with or without the fine. The NFL and NFLPA take the fine money and donate it directly to their respective charities. They would need to account for the money coming in, then show it going back out to charity....and yes they would take the charitable deduction. However, the team, the NFL or NFLPA see any financial benefit or tax benefit from NFL player fines. |

Like I said, the owners get the money. I was simplifying the process here, didn't mean to break out the accountants. :laughing- |

The NFL does NOT get the fine money. No fine money is redistributed to teams. The charitable tax deduction only covers the amounts paid by the NFL as charitable deductions. |

Teams/NFL take the money, give it to charity, and use the tax write off to save money. Money being saved is money the NFL earns via tax savings. Collective money saved (or earned) by NFL will most likely be distributed to the teams due to revenue sharing. I didn't say they took the fines and redistributed them to the teams. Just drop it..lol It's not that big of a deal anyways and I really dont' care enough to argue of this. |
