Tanard Jackson
Tanard Jackson as well all know is one of Raheem Morris players from Tampa as well as a former draft pick of current Redskins GM Bruce Allen. When he was suspended for violating the NFL substance abuse policy, Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan expressed his disappointment in Jackson. Had Jackson been on the field this year, our secondary would not have struggled as much as it has. That aside, does Jackson have a future in Washington? Or will the Redskins look elsewhere to solidify the free safety position? Mike Shanahan should have looked at Jackson's prior violations more closely before signing him. If the Redskins keep Jackson whose to say that he won't violate the rules against substance abuse yet again?

Re: Tanard Jackson
I don't think you can rely on him based on his history. I wouldn't trust him enough to pencil him in as the starter that's for sure. I'd keep him around for depth though and hope he gets his head on straight.

Re: Tanard Jackson
Yeah, that sounds about right. I've seen him play with the Bucs and in the preseason as a Redskin and the guy is a ball hawk. But I wouldn't trust him. We signed him back in March and between that time and training camp the dude is committing violations. The only reason why I think the Redskins may keep him is because of the way Allen and Shanahan handled Trent Williams and Fred Davis substance abuse violations. Both of them are still with the Redskins. But Jackson I'm not so sure. Maybe Jackson stays are maybe he won't.

he'll always hold a special place in my heart :headbange

Re: Tanard Jackson
Tanards good, but if he can't stay on the field, theres no need for him.

Re: Tanard Jackson
^ Agreed.

Re: Tanard Jackson
Cant be trusted and doesnt deserve to wear the burgundy and gold again. Dont want to see him back
|
Re: Tanard Jackson
if he's cheap and we have 2 other starters, no harm, but don't depend on him.
really we should sign byrd. probably an easy top 5 FA for us. |

I'm with this. We have to bring SOMEONE in next year. Merriweather and Jackson would be serviceable starters, but we're seeing how much good that's done us this year. If we bring in one more starting caliber guy, I'd feel alot better. I think Gomes has shown flashes, but still nothing I'd trust at this point. |
Re: Tanard Jackson
Gomes is okay but until he shows and proves he can play safety, I don't want to see him on the field. If Jackson cleans himself up and gets his act together I think he can contribute. But there's no way I'd rely on him as a starting FS.

Now, with that teaser we got from Meriweather, do you keep him too?

If you do, you better have a equal backup. Also, BW is signed through till the end of next year. |
Re: Tanard Jackson
What about Honey Badger as a mid rounder? I like him at free safety.

Did you watch him at LSU? He can add 15-20 lbs but he would.be better suited at strong safety |

We have a bigger need at FS. |
Re: Tanard Jackson
apparently you all dont understand that a player who is generously listed at 5-9 179lbs can't just gain 21+lbs of muscle after not playing football for a whole year, as a CB and just become an NFL SS (or FS..which is worse cause you must be able to cover very well if your a FS). IT DOESNT WORK LIKE THAT. You all think he can basically become a Bob Sanders who played SS at 5-8 205-210lbs...He played SS at Iowa, he played 3 straight years in college. Theres your differences. |
Re: Tanard Jackson
I really do like Jackson, but he's not reliable. We need guys on this team that's committed to football. I don't want any more lazy guys, guys with drug problems, guys who are injury prone, guys who can't stay out of trouble off field, locker room cancers, etc. I want guys who are completely committed to winning and nothing less. If for some reason we do bring him back he must be kept on a very, very short leash. He needs to be test twice a week. If he comes up positive just one time we cut all tides with him. The way I look at this guy really did let down team with his off field behavior.

Re: Tanard Jackson
I really like taking chances on players and giving good players second chances. That said i dont think honeybadger is worth the risk before the 6th round and keeping jackson is a bad idea, without the intentions of replacing him with someone thats actually serviceable and reliably at the saftey position.
I liked honeybadger a lot and think hes finally on the right path for sorting out his life but the dude just seems like hes gonna be way too raw to use a pick on before the 6th, maybe even the 7th. I liked tanard jackson a lot and even though neither worked out i liked the fact that we took a chance on him and merriweather. I like that were taking chances. Think about how much better our d would be if jackson and merriweather were back there right now. But i saw this a while back and i dont think jackson is going to never be not be an idiot: http://www.sportscardforum.com/threads/1683144-wow-just-saw-tanard-jackson-(redskins-used-to-be-bucs-)-buy-weed |

Mathieu, Tanard, Trent, and Fred; what's the difference between either of them? None of them can be trusted really. |
Re: Tanard Jackson
Tanard is playing for the vet minimum or close to it. Give him one more chance, we have nothing to lose. I think the redskins have every intention of giving him another chance. I believe next year is our last year of Salary cap penalty hell. Tanard would be a cheap solution to FS position and we can spend on other needs.

Re: Tanard Jackson
If Jackson and Meriweather play this year and if Orakpo and Kerriker don't go down for the season, how good is the Defense? Is Haslett still considered the worst D Coordinator ever?

Time will tell...... Everybody deserves a second chance. Multiple chances.....maybe not |
Re: Tanard Jackson
I remember Shanahan talking about Jackson and how much he liked him. This was after the suspension was handed down and Mike said he was disappointed because he really liked the guy and I remember thinking he would probably give this guy another chance if he could. I think he looks to find someone else but it would'nt surprise me to see Mike keep him in the mix.
We have a bigger need at FS.
I think we have a big need at either safety. Mathieu would help extremely. David Amerson to play CB or FS Eric Reid in the 2nd round, Mathieu for SS/CB in the 3 |

I don't see A) how we get all 3 of those players B) why you think Reid is going in the second C) why you would take mathieu in the 3rd. D) Why you want amerson..that dudes been abused by opposing QBs this year. |

Not above 20th, still need more parts, esp with Fletch aging. |

You think they would have fallen off that much from last year when they were 13th? I think they could have stayed top 15 or so. |
You think they would have fallen off that much from last year when they were 13th?
I think they could have stayed top 15 or so.
I give Fletcher that much credit for past play, also based on what Smootsmack says about him basicly being on the shelf except for games. |

Good question. With Jackson and Meriweather the defense is more solid. Maybe an opposing offense would complete a long pass play on the Redskins defense every now and then but not at the frequent rate that's been happening all year long with Madieu Williams and Doughty playing safety. We'll never know if the Redskins would've been a top 10 defense had Meriweather been healthy and Jackson not been on suspension from them league. Haslett is not a bad defensive coordinator either. |
Re: Tanard Jackson
Tanard had a bad test before we signed him. The FO already knew the situation. They were just hoping for a less punishment from the NFL. T Jax is probably still in the future plans.
