Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
The four time Pro-Bowler made the list of 27 semifinalists for the Hall of Fame.

Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
Nice!!!
|
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
Joe Jacoby deserves to be in the HOF. Both he and Gary Clark.

Agreed! |
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
Hope he gets in. Starter on 4 SB teams at tackle and then guard. It would be well deserved.
|
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
I might be reaching here, but the Hogs made it glorious to be an offensive lineman. They were actually celebrated. To the point where you'd pay less attention to Riggins and hone in on the blocker(s) in front of him paving the way.
Changed the way we watch football games in my opinion. |
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
Good old Joe Jacoby. He was great. A great find by the Skins GM then. We could use a JJ today.
|
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
We've actually had a good legacy of tackles: Joe Jacoby, Jim Lachey, Chris Samuels, Jon Jansen, and Trent Williams.
|
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
Lachey is a guy that should get more pub. He was damn near impossible to beat in his prime.
|
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
Jacoby was a wall as well as Lachey, they both belong in the HOF. The most impressive thing about Jacoby is that he was a FA and not a 1st round pick like Lachey.
|
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
Congrats to Joe. He deserves this.
|
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
The battles of Jacoby and Lawrence Taylor were awesome to watch. Back before salary cap and game changing rules to protect the QB and promote passing. The game was so much better back then.
|
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
Jacoby should get in because he was one of the guys who essentially changed the position. He made LT mean what LT means today.
|

Lachey was as perfect at his position as you can get. Strange that you don't hear more about him when people talk about the all time greats. Jacoby was blood and guts all the way. I hope he makes it. He typified the Hogs and "Fought his guts out"! |
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
I don't think Lachey will ever make it cause he didn't play long enough. If I remember injuries cut his career short. But perhaps the best trade in Skins history was Jay Schreoder for Jim Lachey.
|
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
Yeah thank you Mike Shanahan for that trade. Crazy thing is it was originally supposed to be Doug Williams

Should have gotten in a long time ago. |

Was Jacoby in the game when Joey T's leg got broke? Still haven't watched that play to this day. |

Nope, didn't play. Grimm was the LT |

Two trades I'm sure Gibbs is glad he didn't make. Riggins and Williams. |
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
How about Darrell Green too? Or that he initially had Jacoby penciled in as a DT?
|

Forgot about Green, that one was actually pretty close to happening right? |
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
Very close from what a couple of Green's teammates once told me. Not as close as Fred Davis for Jamaal Charles, but close
|
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
what was the green trade?
|
Congrats to Joe,he deserves to be in,not just a finalist

1st rounder and a player I think |
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
I think had they put Jacoby at guard he would've made it already. But all those highlights of LT beating him probably didin't do him justice. He was a great player for a long ass time.
|
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
Joe Jacoby was one of the best offensive linemen of all time. He blocked flawlessly and when he pulled out on the counter trey, he caused some pretty nasty collisions with the members of the opposing defense when our RB ran for yardage. Until this day I'm still wondering how Jacoby went undrafted.
|
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
Joe's first year he was almost cut. They had him on the "D" and he sucked. They called him in to tell him he was cut when he told them he thought he could be better if they put him at "O" tackle because he never played "D" before. They put him at :O: tackle and the rest is history.

I'll buy that. If it wasn't the best trade in our history at least it was pretty damn close. Lachey was the best LT in the league imo and Schreoder? Well he didn't do much. That trade was lopsided as hell. :) |

I remember hearing several horrible stories about Jay S. One was his attitude became so bad before the SB against Denver that Gibbs was almost going to bring up Mark Rypien and de activate Schreoder. |

Jacoby didn't make the cut

Absolutely, he was shut-down dominant. Didn't matter who he was going against. |
Re: Joe Jacoby: Hall of Fame semifinalist
Interesting point by Elfin:
David Elfin @davidelfin My old buddy Jon Leibowitz noted the irony of the Hogettes hanging up their snouts on the day that Joe Jacoby wasn't chosen for Canton. |

End of an era, to be sure. This is the facebook post: “After 30 seasons, the Hogettes are hanging up our pig snouts & dresses. It has been an honor being a part of the greatest 12th Man fans in the NFL. We will forever be Redskins’ fans and cheer for our beloved team. It is a new era and we will continue to support RG3 and his teammates. HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!! We will also continue to help (incognito) raise money for Children’s Charities.” Man, I thought that these guys (or their heirs) would outlast me. |

i think had Lachey started his career as a Redskin and played his entire career here, he would get in.But if I remember he only had 3-4 great seasons, then the injuries got him from 93 til his career ended. But IMO that 91 line was the best O-line ever assembled in the history of the NFL, and Lachey was the anchor. |
