Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
I figured this was thread worthy. More importantly, Pierre Garcon just said on SportsCenter that Kirk Cousins would be starting!!
Whether it's true, a rumor, or a calculated misdirection by Shanny remains to be seen. But it's out there for now. |
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
Sit him this week. Let Cousins start with Rexy behind him.
|
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
it all depends on how he feels and how the swelling is .. cleveland is no cupcake, not that we beat cupcakes usually anyway but, i think though that IF cousins starts they will have a good gameplan in place for him and run the ball alot with Morris and if our defense plays well enough we could definitely still win. we are playing inspired Team football.
|
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
Make him the back up for that game and only bring him in if you have too. I would also activate Grossman for that game as insurance.
|
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
I'd personally let him rest a week and let Kirk take on the Browns. One loss doesn't necessarily kill us and if we need to lose one, it should be the non-division game. We need the NFC East wins for the tiebreaker that's likely to happen.
Besides, I think Cousins, Morris and Garcon can still beat the Browns. We need to just run Morris down their throats all day. However, we're in a playoff run. We haven't won the division since 1999. Part of me wants full steam ahead. |
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
Cousins is going to start but RG3 will be in uniform.
|
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
John "Iron Knees" Beck would have been unhurt by the hit that sent Griffin down.
Bring back John Beck! |
Let Cousins start if need be but I'd dress RG3 too just in case. This game is too important.
|
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
I still believe the only way the Redskins get into the playoffs is 10-6, and if Griffin is healthy, you play him. If the 'skins were 8-5 right now, I'd say without a doubt, give Griffin a break and bring in Cousins. But, that's not the case and the Redskins are playing for their playoff lives, so every game counts.
|
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
I like the idea of RG3 starting. I know Cousins is capable, but a LCL sprain isn't that serious. As far as Pierre Garcon stating that Cousins is starting, it to me sounds like something Mike Shanahan told him to say to the media.
|
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
I would imagine there's a decent chance he'll be wearing some sort of knee brace, which would inhibit his mobility. Do we want less than 100% standing in the pocket behind our offensive line?
Sounds iffy to me. |

I like that approach. Bring him in in crucial situations...maybe put both guys on the field at once...confuse the heck out of Cleveland. Kyle has been incredible at playcalling lately. Forget the Baltimore defense, I'm a fan of of the Skins and didn't see them running Cousins up the middle for that two-point conversion. Expect the unexpected with this offense. |

Stop stealing my ideas SFREDSKIN! :smashfrea I kid of course. But yeah, start Kirk, make RG3 the back up. |
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
If RG3 is medically cleared to play, and he feels 95%, he should start. If there is any legitimate concern that his playing could cause him to re-injure the knee, whereas sitting him a week would do wonders for his recovery, then he should sit.
|
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
If he can go he has to go. The hubris is just too much to me. I am fighting my inner need to err on the side of caution though. A huge part of me wants him to sit.
|
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
Right now, all signs point to him not playing. Shanahan is the kind of coach who believes it’s a strategic advantage to keep something like this a mystery. Yet, he publically expressed optimism that RG3 would play Sunday. The only reason I can see Shanahan doing that is if he wants the Browns to prepare for RGIII, but start Cousins.
If Shahahan was truly optimistic that RG3 would play, he’d say it was too early to know anything and probably be a game-time decision - that way the Browns would be preparing for both. |
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
Knowing the heart that RG3 has, I don't see him sitting this game. As long as he thinks there's no risk of him re-aggravating that knee, he's going to be out there.
|
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
RGII said the plan is for him to play. RGIII will never miss this game. That said, I would want Cousins starting and have RGIII and Gross-man dressed just in case. ?The Browns are gonna be hard to beat.

re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
I say play RGIII, but give him the "non-running Kirk Cousin gameplan". Very little triple-option pistol, more streach runs and play-action boot-legs out of the old Shannahan playbook. Then if RGIII can't hold up or gets sore, you bring in Cousins to run the same offense. The other 10 guys will be practicing and playing the same gameplan, and it won't be a drastic change.

Bring back John Beck![/quote] I agree. If Beck had played last night, the texans would have won handily. If only we could trade RG3 and two more first rounders for Beck. |

Yeah, i will be shocked if he doesnt play. Has anyone heard any news of him walking around since Sunday? How badly is he limping? |

Finally someone shows the greatest Redskin in history the respect that he is due. |

I like the idea of Griffen and Shanhan relying on and developing Griffen's pocket passing while his mobility is somewhat limited. But i wish it was against a different team, as the Brown's pass rush is really good. |
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
According to the Washington Post, RG2 said that RG3 is playing on Sunday against Cleveland.
|
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
Someone said it on the first page, I think a lot of misdirection is being used (probably something they will try to fine us for) so the Browns prepare for the wrong guy or have to prepare for two different guys.
I am all for screwing with their mind on the opening drive though with both of them in and in shotgun kinda lined up as if they were split backs and no QB. or Cousins under center with RGIII lined up as the tailback. Do a good ole fake over the head of Cousins snap to RGIII or a good ole snap to RGIII pitch to cousins, just something completely off kilter. No better way to confuse a D then have them looking at the eyes of two QB's behind center. |
Belicheat gives bs doubtful and questionable designations each week. If we get fined I would be pissed.

I'm still pissed off about that fine we got. Yeah, the NFL let's f'ing Belicheat give BS injury reports ALL the time. |
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
Guys, back up for a second. Pierre Garcon said that Kirk Cousins was starting. No one on the coaching staff said it.
|
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
I have an idea. Start Cousins and have RGIII line up as a wide receiver. No, wait....
I think it all comes down to how he's actually doing on Sunday -- and as it is Tuesday, who the heck knows what the situation will be. If he's near 100%, it is hard to imagine he won't start. If he's closer to 75%, I could imagine starting Cousins with RGIII in reserve. But if he still has swelling and soreness and is function at 50% or less, we're crazy to let him play at all. And as far as I am concerned, with what's at stake, do a little misdirection and take the fine if you have to. |
re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
I would prefer them to start Cousins with RG3 dressed as backup if needed. I believe we can make the playoffs this year, but not at the expense of RG3 reinjuring himself or having any setbacks. This season is already a win in my opinion. As a life long Skins fan, it's been a long time since I've felt we could beat anyone we were playing. This team is going to be scary next year when we get Orakpo and Carriker back and add a few pieces. I still think we can make the playoffs this year, which is bad news for every other team because no one wants to play us.

re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
I would be fine with Cousins starting as I worry about future implications of further injury. We have invested alot to make Griffin the QB of this franchise for the future and I would hate to see a worse injury occur due to the ligaments already having minor tears. Of course I said this after the concussion and he has played just fine so perhaps I worry too much.

re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
RG3 needs to rest his knee during the week. He'll still need to practice regardless. Maybe he'll be less mobile but he can scramble or roll out if he doesn't stay in the pocket. The 2 times RG3 has gotten injured this season is when he ran for yardage. Mike Shanahan's decision to play Rg3 or Cousins probably won't be announced until before the game against the Browns.

re: Update: Kirk Cousins to Start vs Browns
Cousins is more than able to win this game. Sit RG3! His injury has a minimum of 2 weeks healing rate and 6 weeks for max. This game is not as important as the big picture regarding RG3.

If you sit RG3 every time he gets a sprain, he will never play. He will always be potential and never reach it. This is an opportunity for him to accomplish his goals. Next year is never guaranteed. RG2 is right, the plan is for him to play. He is chasing glory. You can't be scared. If he sits out then the "Luck is better than RG3" crowd wins. No playoffs for the Redskins. RG3 failed would be the judgement. |
