Good/Bad News for a Change - 2013 18MM cap penalty probably (not) going away
Per Chris Russell on ESPN980 an hour ago: We've been secretly fighting the cap penalty all season and now, multiple high level officials inside the organization who have deep, intimate knowledge of ongoing negotiations, "strongly believe" we will get "most, if not all" of the 18MM 2013 cap penalty back.
Chris also said he asked Mike Shanahan today if we would get any of the cap penalty back and he said, "I can't really talk about it because we're still involved in this... I hope that answers your question." Nice to know that not only did we get to the playoffs without the penalty, but we could be penalty free in 2013. And because of the penalty this year, we got to play a lot of young guys and give them experience, who otherwise wouldn't have gotten it had we filled more holes in free agency. |

Thanks for sharing the good news. I do hope this is the case.

Yea I heard it too
|
re: Good/Bad News for a Change - 2013 18MM cap penalty probably (not) going away
That would be huge for us, obviously
|
re: Good/Bad News for a Change - 2013 18MM cap penalty probably (not) going away
Yes indeedy! Not that I want a free agent binge, but I do want to see us get one valuable starter in free agency to make up for that lost 1st rounder.

Getting a premier safety or CB would be amazing. Depth would be great too. |

Yeah. I like Brandon Meriweather at one spot. And I otherwise like our safety depth. A good starter at the other safety spot would look great. I have to say I get giddy thinking about what the defense will look like with Orakpo, Carriker, and Meriweather healthy. Let alone what it would look like with a free agent starting safety added to that mix. |

That'd be amazing. |

i'm still partial to goldson, but will he leave sf?
|
re: Good/Bad News for a Change - 2013 18MM cap penalty probably (not) going away
For what it's worth, the Post is citing several people familiar with the case who think it's highly unlikely that the Redskins and Cowboys will recoop any cap space in this fight.

I doubt sf let's him go. Jenkins from Dallas is available, hearing jay Ratliff will be also. Just a couple names I've heard from Dallas anyway. |

Wapo says rg3 only has a partially torn lcl and acl. They are good in my book |

Is there a link to confirm this post? I haven't found anything to corroborate...

I say that mostly because they still employ mike wise. Terrible writer and an even worse radio personality. Thank God 1067 canned that garbage he called a radio show. |

As I said, Chris Russell said this on the radio tonight. If you want to hear it, you can go to the espn980 audiovault on your computer or use your smartphones podcast app to subscribe to espn980, which is actually great. I listen to it every day to and from work. |

Whoops missed that. Thanks for the heads up. |
re: Good/Bad News for a Change - 2013 18MM cap penalty probably (not) going away
That would be fantastic! I can see good players really wanting to come here now and not just for the paycheck. Finally! It would be great to have the cap space to sign them.
|
re: Good/Bad News for a Change - 2013 18MM cap penalty probably (not) going away
byrd man, we need some byrd up in here. keep jackson and merriweather and safety is good. don't know what we're doing at CB though.
i hope this goes away. |

I dunno. I think the draw that would have brought them might have just torn his ACL and will be out for the year... |

They thought this at the beginning of the year too...but it wasn't true
I'm not sold on this info |

I'm not sold on this info
I agree. They also "thought" they had a legitimate shot at winning that court case a while back, so it could all just be bluster for the media. |

i hope this goes away.
Yes Jackson is good, but how do you keep around a guy that is suspended indefinately for drug use? He needs to be let go and the franchise needs to continue to build the way they have. We can add a FA or two and draft someone if we need too. The cap hit would be huge to get back and give the team an opportunity to keep some of the 18 FAs we have coming up. DY, KL, ZoA, Sav, FD, Brandon M?, and restructure of DH. I wanted to get rid of DH, but now if he restructures at (he said he is open to) a lower cap hit I would be open to keeping him. What gives me hope is that their has been a change of the organizational and player behavior of the franchise. That the current group of players finally realize that with dedication and preparation they can win by staying focused on winning and takin it one game at a time. Not that we didn't have a good work ethic before, but that winning will give them that affirmation. |

I think we need to add a piece here and there but no need to go crazy. A safety would be nice, and a pass rusher too. |

Oh that would be so awesome. Please be true! :woot:

re: Good/Bad News for a Change - 2013 18MM cap penalty probably (not) going away
I'll believe it when I see it happen. Until then, it'll still hang over our head for the off-season.
|
re: Good/Bad News for a Change - 2013 18MM cap penalty probably (not) going away
I would love for this to happen (behind RG3 being healthy though), but I don't believe it. Our luck; we'd get fined more money out of this lol
And as for Jarius Byrd, he's probably gonna get franchised. Goldson of San Fran is more likely to come here. |
Hope if we do get it back it won't be the day before free agency hits or worse on August 1st. **** you giants

re: Good/Bad News for a Change - 2013 18MM cap penalty probably (not) going away
I think the reason the PA case was dismissed is because the Cap penalty will be retracted. It's no way around what they did and what Mara said to prove they didn't violate the spirit of an antitrust law.
|
re: Good/Bad News for a Change - 2013 18MM cap penalty probably (not) going away
No. The reason the case was dismissed was because, in entering into the new CBA, the players waived any and all claims "known and unknown" that occurred prior to the signing of the CBA. Their suit was for "unknown" claims that occurred prior to the signing of the new CBA and, thus, were waived.

I don't know about that. Mara is on record claiming collusion. It's not unknown. |

It was "unknown" at the time the new CBA was agreed upon. The NFLPA basically said at that point, regardless of what happened up until this point, we will not go back and try to sue you NFL. Then when Mara flapped his trap, the NFLPA said well Whoa now, Now we want to sue you. But you can't do that. Before the new CBA was agreed on, the NFLPA had every right to investigate possible collusion type practices by the NFL. They had a lawsuit doing just that. But in order to bring peace to the NFL-NFLPA legal landscape, both sides had to agree to letting all that happened before basically be erased from the legal landscape. although Joe could explain it better by far, that's the gist of it. |

re: Good/Bad News for a Change - 2013 18MM cap penalty probably (not) going away
Good news but the damage has been done.
We likely would have had a few more players like Eric Winston, Brandon Carr and who knows, possibly Vincent Jackson too. However, glad this could be happening, it was bogus from the start and needs to be corrected. How about a compensatory 1st-rounder to help alleviate the damage done to our 2012 roster? Fat chance, but would be fair. |

But, the concept of "Signing your rights away" is not recognized by the courts. People have been bullied into doing just that plenty of times only to have the Judge claim "Signed under duress" and throw that clause out. Second, the NFLPA has no right to make collusion for its negotiating partner legal. Thats completely up to the Govt at this point. I dont see it going anywhere since the Govt wont take on the NFL, but that has nothing to do with the NFLPA signing its rights away and the NFL/NFLPA claiming to have jurisdiction on the Constitution of the USA with a claim of what they deem as legal even though its not through a clause in the CBA. |
re: Good/Bad News for a Change - 2013 18MM cap penalty probably (not) going away
Bittersweet. Would have been nice to have the cap money this year, and could have gone further in playoffs.
Next year, I'm still scared that RG3 will be recovering from another ACL repair... Still would like the cap money, but doubt it comes. |
