Your go to vacation spots

My wife and I are getting ready to book some vacations for the upcoming year. What are some of your go to vacation spots? You know... those places you love to go back to over and over.

Ours are Clearwater Fl., planning a trip there in April... nothing like relaxing on the beach with a drink in hand and it's a quick 2 1/2 hour non-stop flight for us.

New Orleans, planning to go again in May... for anyone who loves food, drink and music, hard to beat the Big Easy.

Chicago, big city but it has a small city feel. Great food and lot's to do.

NYC, what can I say, 2 hour train ride from where we live, always a great time in the big apple.

Let's hear some of yours.

Gulf Shores, Alabama. My parents own a condo down there (thanks 90's bull market) so during the Winter Months when it's not booked up with rentals I at least have to think about going down there. Lots of great memories.

Long boat key Florida. Beautiful. Not far from Sarasota

Florida Gulf Coast. My grandparents lived in Venice, FL for many years, so I went down several times to visit. 20 miles south of Sarasota, an hour south of Tampa, an hour north of Fort Myers. The beaches are great down there.

On our honeymoon, my wife and I did a roadtrip to Key West via Williamsburg, Charleston and Savannah. All of those places make great vacation places. Williamsburg has this historic areas, Busch Gardens and is near Virginia Beach. Charleston has a lot of history, great food. Savannah as well. Key West is just awesome, and I've been trying to get back there ever since I went 8 short year ago.

Delmarva Beaches (Rehoboth, Dewey, Bethany, Fenwick, Ocean City). I'm a beach bum (if you couldn't tell from my vacation spots), so this being 3 hours from home and having access to my parents' place there makes it my biggest go-to. Crabbing, fishing, boating, beaching, shopping, eating. Lots to do.

It's funny reading all of these comments about how people love to go to the beach. I now realize I actually hate going down to the beach but love looking at it out a window. Then again as mentioned before most of the time I've gone it's been in the winter.

Miami and Lake Tahoe.
Edit: crandon park beach - miles of white sand and warm water. Sandbars that go on forever. Really beautiful beach.

Re: Your go to vacation spots

The Outer Banks NC - specifically Hatteras Island - its relaxing beach without all the tourists. 3 hours from where I live. My favorite image in the world is climbing over the a massive sand dune to the beach round 10 at night with a beer buzz, seeing a massive moon over the ocean and looking down the beach and seeing the flickering bonfires dot the coast.

NYC - my sister lives in the upper east side and ive been going up since college, probably been bout 10 ten times. I like the overwhelming sense of how small you feel in such a spot. People watching fans have to go period. Nothing beats a concert a MSG or a game at Yankee stadium or a walk around Central Park on a Sunday.

Fort Myers Beach Florida is our special spot.
And we just love this hotel. You cant beat a Tiki bar right on the beach.

Oh to not have kids, I LOVE my kids but at times I get jealous of the freedom some folks have without them.

I will live through you!

We generally go to DE Beach's but thsi year we are doing Nag's head. The drive could be killer with a 5 year old and 2 year old. Vacations with small kids though fun is a LOT of work.

Key West and Vegas. My favorite places to go where you can get into absolutely anything you want to. Fun drinking and fun eating.

New Orleans is tops on our list of places to go next because I imagine it's very similar to Vegas and Key West. :D

I went when I was young, like 10 or 11. Got to jetski on Lake Mead which was fun but weird at the same time. Got robbed of a trip my senior year of high school when my cousin was getting married, on Easter weekend no less. Spent Easter with my friends family while my parents and cousins lived it up in Vegas. I still haven't forgiven them for that.

I never get tired of Myrtle Beach, and it's just about a 3 1/2 hour drive for me now. However, now since I've had my fill for flying, I'd love to check out some of these other vacay spots.

One thing I really want to do at some point, especially to have my fill of nerdom, is to fly out to Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show.

I love both places I'd take New Orleans over Vegas personally.

There's just something about being able to drink in the streets and walk around bar to bar hearing great music everywhere. Plus the food is just insane.

The stickiest hand rail in the whole world is in the stairway at the Tropical Isle bar on Bourbon Street.

Another anecdote I have is that at some Bourbon street bar I dont remember I was sexually molested by a waitress because I would not buy a shot off her shot tray. I eventually did buy the shot so she would stop dry humping my hip.

Bourbon St is like a circus sideshow. Never seen anything quite like it.

I was there in September and it looked like a collection of people trying way too hard to be 'crazy'.

Some very nice restaurants off Bourbon St if you look for them. Stay away from the Hand Grenades and Hurricane carrying oiks and you're fine.

We tend to stay off Bourbon St for the most part. It's fun to walk it once or twice, but overall there's a heck of a lot more to that town than one street.

I love the Outer Banks, NC. Depends on what you like to do on vacation. If you want to relax and really do nothing, it's great. Especially great after labor day when all the kids are back in school.

Exactly. I know that we've talked about this in the past (and maybe I forgot) but if you haven't, YOU need to go to Key West. :headbange

Again, I haven't been to New Orleans, but I can't imagine a place like Key West where you walk into CVS on Duval Street, buy a six pack and crack it open walking down the sidewalk. You can walk anywhere in that town at any hour of night and feel safe too.

yeah, Key West is actually my number one destination spot right now with Yellowstone National park close behind. Colorado is close as well. Like to do New Orleans as well. I need to get to work

Do they harass you with strip club flyers in N.O. as they do in Vegas? That got a bit old in Las Vegas when I went there two months ago.

New Orleans is fantastic. Been there several times. Never with the family but it really has so much to offer and i wouldnt hesitate to take them.

Coconut Grove in Miami is a great spot too. Crandon Park Beach is a short drive. Stay in the Mayfair rite in the Grove.

No flyers, but anytime you walk by one of the clubs there's usually some dude out on the street trying to persuade you to go in. And sometimes some chick wearing practically nothing will be hanging out in the doorway. It's quite the scene. If that's not your deal though you can just avoid that end of Bourbon.

Make sure to go snorkeling. Actually fly in to Miami and drive down, Drive is beautiful and you should stop and check out some of the other keys along the way.

I can attest to this. Had a convertible for our trip. Enjoyed the drive down in the dark and the drive out in the daylight. Just absolutely gorgeous.

Thinking about a cruise in the summer. They have ships that leave New Orleans so I could drive down there and then get on the ship! Prices are actually pretty good and I'd love to go snorkeling
