Faith, Sports and Media
:soapbox:So I will be the first to admit that when CBS did the humongoid upclose view of Ray Lewis during the National Anthem I about puked. I don't care who it is(cheerleaders excluded), the networks don't need to do ultra extreme closeups like that. Then Monkeydad posted this in the one thread:
Cromartie was never involved in a murder. :D It's just interesting how the media "crucifies" Tim Tebow for his faith, even when he just wears a scripture on his eyeblack and doesn't even vocally share his beliefs, and everyone hates him for it...but Ray Lewis gets cameras in his face 24/7 to egg him on for his next over-the-top sermon. Tebow is legitimately a good person and role model. Ray Lewis was involved in a murder and has impregnated multiple women...and somehow he's the darling of the media? I bet if RGIII wasn't as successful on the field as he has been, he'd be taking a lot of criticism for his opens displays of faith too. People would give him the same treatment as Tebow just because his mere presence as a Christian athlete would "offend" them. Redskins QB Robert Griffin III after big win: God is on our side
so rather than delving into religion and networks and athletes over there, I thought I would talk about it here. Could go in the rant thread too. How can athletes even begin to think (as Griffin said) that "God is on our side". I get Christianity, or any faith is a) deeply personal, and b) central to an individual's core identity; but how in the world can it be thought that a being who is as majestic as the Christian Lord, or as powerful as Muslim's Allah, or as wise as Buddha, is sitting up high guiding one sports team to victory over another? It makes me think of the gods of Olympus, taking sides and having their parties when one seduces one mortal or another. Seriously, let's hope God, Allah, et al, are not sitting up on high, with a tv screen and a cosmic sprinkler head waiting for the right time to screw up one team or another. Anyway, hopefully this doesn't devolve rapidly, but I couldn't read the back and forth, or RGIII's comments that God is on the Redskins side, etc etc, without wanting to scream, God is bigger than that, at least I hope he is. |
Re: Faith, Sports and Media
And how come right in the middle of sex a woman finds the need to tell god she is comming?

Re: Faith, Sports and Media
Ray Lewis is a sideshow and so is Tebow. Ray Lewis is a Pro Football HoF'er, Tebow is a Christian HoF'er. Ray Lewis takes care of his children and Tebow bashes gays in Super Bowl commercials.

Really tastefully done up until you realize the core message of the ad and the people behind it. |

If your not an active gay supporter you are anti gay and are bashing them. See we all have to believe 100% what the liberals think is correct or we are bashing. |

Correct! Focus on the Family is anti-gay and bashes them at every turn. They are garbage and so is anyone affiliated with them. |

I looked at the link from the video you provided and did not see one thing mentioned about gays. Only thing I saw was mention about marriage is between 1 man and 1 woman. They might bash gays but that site sure didn't. |

Don't confuse your ignorance about the anti-gay activities of Focus on the Family with its non-existence. Perhaps you should pickup [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Marriage-Under-Fire-Must-Battle/dp/1414317565/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top"]Mr. Dubson's book[/ame] and educate yourself of their loathsomeness. Or perhaps you can read a nice summary of it: Genocide For Jesus: James Dobson: "I have never said anything hateful about homosexuals" |

What "core message" and "people behind it" are you "realizing", saden? And again, how is Tebow bashing gays in Superbowl commercials like you claim? |

Its both...tagline at the end says "celebrate family, celebrate life." The fact that he worked for FoF makes him a bedfellow in thier hateful speech. He's garbage as far as i am concerned. |

Firstdown, you were right. |
Re: Faith, Sports and Media
lol focus on the family... it's not hard to read between the lines and see what they're all about. Just your typical right wing evangelical BS. Any organization that backs abstinence or thinks that homosexuality can be cured is part of the problem, not the solution.

God is on our side? My brother in law fully beliefs homosexuals can be cured. I always say to him can anyone reprogram you to be attracted to cock. Never has a answer after that. I worked with and i am friends with many homosexuals; none and i mean none would have choice that lifestyle if they had a choice in the matter. It is extremely difficult life too live. |

Re: Faith, Sports and Media
The best people in the world are those who no matter their faith, belief system, or lack of, can look upon others who believe differently and find common ground to build healthy relationships with. Those are the types of people I would associate myself with. Those who spend time tearing down different belief systems have no peace in their lives, are destructive to human kind, and will eventually find themselves alone.

Omg, are you f*cking with me? Gotta be honest, I LOL'ed at the 1 more guy to complete the axis of evil comment: In Kazemi's waiver request, he claimed that Greenspan told Marcos to "recruit more terrorists" on multiple occasions. He also alleged that when talking in Arabic to another player that Greenspan asked if they were having an "Al-Qaeda meeting." When Morcos wore a traditional Middle Eastern gown as part of a team function for Halloween, Kazemi alleged in the waiver request that Greenspan told the assistant, "All you need is a backpack and you are ready to bomb the school." On multiple road trips, Kazemi claimed that Greenspan directed airport security to thoroughly search the bags of him, Oraby and Ibrahim because of their Middle Eastern heritage. Kazemi also accused Greenspan of telling him and other players in January 2012, "We only need one more guy to complete the Axis of Evil." Another time, Kazemi alleged he was talking in a foreign language to another player and Morcos when Greenspan walked by and told them, "Stop speaking in this language because you could be plotting against us."
