4:00 Free Agent Shot Caller
Last year Pierre Garcon was the 4:00 surprise as we landed him in the burgundy and gold immediately. Many knew we were after a playmaking WR and many names were thrown out.
This year Right Tackle, Safety, and Cornerback are all needs and even with a limited cap number, I think we will grab someone fairly quickly. So call your shot, who is the first significant signing we make today? As the 4 o'clock hour approaches, I feel the tension deep in my plums and Im going with CB Derek Cox. Talib, Toler, Cason, Sean Smith all possible options, but in the end its Cox. It doesnt have to be Corner, but tell me who the first signicant sign is. |
Re: 4:00 Free Agent Shot Caller
Toler is my call. He provides the most bang for the buck.
|
Re: 4:00 Free Agent Shot Caller
Toler and Biggers
|
Re: 4:00 Free Agent Shot Caller
Ryan Harris RG3 needs a RT.
|
Sean Smith and toler both. Just being bold here lol

Re: 4:00 Free Agent Shot Caller
None of the above. I dont see any significant signings at all. I see us picking up the scraps left over after the first and second waves of signings and getting serviceable starters at bargain basement prices.

Re: 4:00 Free Agent Shot Caller
no one

Re: 4:00 Free Agent Shot Caller
So no significant signing today? Its a possibility, but not likely imo.

Even he is surprised by that prediction
And that is why I like him. |
Re: 4:00 Free Agent Shot Caller
He has that je ne sais quoi quality that would round out the team

I was thinking the same thing about his neck. It looks like he swallowed a melon whole and it got stuck there; kind of like when a snake eats something larger than it and it just hangs out there in its neck/stomach |

Takeo Spikes. I like him for his neck and when he goes crazy. |

Yea. Takeo Spikes just has one of those looks. And I'm not talking about GQ. |

I lose....he went to the Colts. Would have been a nice grab for us. |
Re: 4:00 Free Agent Shot Caller
I wish Toler had come here. Pissed. Oh well we can draft a CB as good as him in the 2nd.

I'll throw one out there - I don't think the surprise will be a new signing but rather something involving one of our current players. More specifically Orakpo and/or Josh Wilson. The cap hit/release fee just doesn't seem right with these guys. |

No way they cut Orakpo but I could see a trade. With Wilson it could be an extension, a cut, or a trade (not sure what trade value he has if any tho). |

I do not even think Orakpo is elite, but he is definitely the best defensive player on the Skins (used to be Fletcher but I think time has finally caught up to him). |

I don't disagree with you, but if he's really the best D player on the Skins why not extend him like Matty suggested? Coming off the injury and a missed season, Skins would definitely have some leverage. Plus it could save us $2M-$3M on this year's cap. They could wait and see and let him play out his contract year (with the motivation that comes with it). But if he's lights out he will cost a fortune next year. And if he busts we're left with nothing. If Skins are sitting on this fence and another team offers some real value, don't we have to seriously consider? |

But I don't see a team willing to give anything that significant for a player coming of a season ending injury. |
Re: 4:00 Free Agent Shot Caller
So this would have been ballsier to call at 4:00 yesterday, but I'm feeling more and more like we won't resign Fred Davis. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm just not seeing how we'll be able to afford what he'll command, not when teams like Miami are shelling out ridiculous money for average players. The FA TEs that have signed so far have all gotten some pretty generous contracts...

Depends on whether you want the money on a stinker team, or have a shot to play for a championship. Let's hope he wants the championship. |

Same case with 'Zo. I mean, if he goes to Arizona, he's basically saying he's okay with not being on a playoff team for at least the next 2 or 3 years. We'll just have to wait and see... |

Got hope/pray that his injury and previous drug issues discount his asking price or at least scare off potential suitors. |

The more TE's that sign, and I really haven't heard FD's name out there in the twitterverse, makes me think the reality of injury/suspension risk may keep him here. The Skins are trying to do right, but it's reasonable to test the market. I think the market is telling Fred he is best served staying as a Skin. One thing to believe, is that if he gets a 2-3 year "lowball" deal (not real low, just not top 5 TE stuff) then he will still be in his prime, have the Skins on his side, and we won't be hampered by a cap penalty. In other words, biding his time, betting on himself, and the Skins willingness to pay their own, could be a long term win for both sides. Of course I doubt much of that will go into his decision making. |

Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora Browns could still make more deals today. Have some interest in Redskins TE Fred Davis |
Re: 4:00 Free Agent Shot Caller
I know sometimes, understandably, it's just a money thing, but seriously, for your long term career status who would you want throwing you the ball:
A) RGIII, Capt Kirk or B) Brandon Weeden, ??? I hope RGIII can use some of his charisma on FD's return chances |

Great POINTS! His numbers are going be bigger on this team then say CLE. I mean would we have know a guy named Bill Cartwright if he had not played with Micheal Jordan? Hopefully F. Davis sees the big picture in his decision making. |
Re: 4:00 Free Agent Shot Caller
Yep, a lot of this talk really goes to show how much of a difference maker an RG3-type player can be for your franchise. Not only do you have one of the most dynamic playmakers in the NFL, but he also keeps guys around and can help persuade FAs to come aboard (Pierre Garcon?). If sexy rexy was still our QB going forward, I think 'Zo and FD would have already made up their minds to go elsewhere...

Re: 4:00 Free Agent Shot Caller
Well the good news is if FD goes to another team we could just extend Cooley's contract. No reason Cooley could not double or triple his production from last year.
