How Newton Could have been Diffrent
This is a local school shooting here in Baltimore. This article really goes into to detail and there is a 1 hour long interview with the shooter.

Had he had the guns the Newton shooter had Perry Hall would have been the next mass murder school site. If you got the hour I suggest watching his interview. Just pure no emotion; scary amazing. |

He chose an incredibly poor spot to begin his assault. And judging by his incompetence I doubt he would have faired any better with an AR-15. He put his second round into the ceiling for Petes sake. And had he drove a garbage truck at high speed (now its an assault garbage truck) into/thru the cafeteria he would have gotten a lot more too, so why pick on what you think is an assault weapon. And its Newtown, not Newton. |

Re: How Newton Could have been Diffrent
how many 15 year olds (or whatever he is) have reliable access to assault garbage trucks and know how to drive them? ;)
|
Another interesting point in the interview is the shooter would prefer the death penalty. Cements even more in my mind a life sentence behind bars is far more painful for them then simply killing them.

How about the many, many other convicts appealing and negotiating to get life instead of death, like Gary Ridgway?
LINK I'm leaning against the death penalty, lately. But to say that granting clemency to murderers is somehow "tougher" on them, is silly. In the end, it makes sense most murderers (like most people) would rather remain alive than dead, doesn't it? |

Well he didnt, because hes a stupid disturbed kid. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.... What good is reloading if you're going to shoot the ceiling? He would have got a lot more if he would have used a Tim McVeigh styled Assault Moving Van full of ammonia and fertilizer that would have paled next to the Assault Garbage Truck. But alas, he didnt have access to that either. You're wildly speculating and further demonizing what you think is an assault weapon. |

The VT shooter did not use and AR so whats the point?

They all used semiautomatic. http://www.kjrh.com/dpp/news/semiautomatic-weapons-used-in-aurora-tucson-virginia-tech-newtown-connecticut-shootings |

Most firearms that Americans own are semiauto. Almost all hand guns/pistols are semi auto. So are most deer rifles and a lot of shotguns. Thats like pointing out that all stabbing homicides were done with something pointy and sharp. That article is extremely pedestrian and elementary. |
Re: How Newton Could have been Diffrent
First off I teach in BCPS and I am not a gun advocate at all. Obviously the situation could've been worse and we are fortunate it wasn't. Robert Gladden is the product of bullying and poor parenting. His mental attitude toward life also suggests psychological issues that should be addressed, although I am not a school counselor so I am not an expert. I think the bigger question in this situation is how do we provide a student with the support they need when they are not getting it at home.

Yes.... When you pull the trigger on a six shooter the mechanisms in the gun immediately prepare another round for firing allowing you to fire six rounds in rapid succession. Same principal in a modern Glock, just different mechanisms. And if you practice enough its like you have an automatic weapon anyways. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLk1v5bSFPw |

The VT shooter didnt use high capacity mags either. Just standard 10 and 15 rounders. |
Re: How Newton Could have been Diffrent
“They don’t believe this was just a spreadsheet. They believe it was a score sheet,” he continued. “This was the work of a video gamer, and that it was his intent to put his own name at the very top of that list. They believe that he picked an elementary school because he felt it was a point of least resistance, where he could rack up the greatest number of kills. That’s what (the Connecticut police) believe.”
The man paused and said, “They believe that (Lanza) believed that it was the way to pick up the easiest points. It’s why he didn’t want to be killed by law enforcement. In the code of a gamer, even a deranged gamer like this little bastard, if somebody else kills you, they get your points. They believe that’s why he killed himself. “They have pictures from two years before, with the guy all strapped with weapons, posing with a pistol to his head. That’s the thing you have to understand: He had this laid out for years before.” New Allegations About ‘Murder-Obsessed’ Sandy Hook Killer Shows Scary Depth of Sinister Plans | TheBlaze.com ^ So if a nut case wants to kill as many people as possible, is a elementary school officially the most vulnerable place to accomplish that? In terms of "how could Newtown be different", let’s pretend that more gun control could have reduced the loss of life at Sandy Hook. That would be an advantageous notion, but would it change the fact that elementary schools are still the most effective place to pull off a mass murder by a gun, regardless of laws and regulation? I think thats the starting point. Let’s move schools from the easiest targets to one of the hardest targets to pull off a mass killing by any means, because if we are going to live in a society where someone wants to kill as many people as possible, lets make schools the hardest possible target to accomplish that. |

Without reading all the post because we have gone through all this before on other threads, only way for it to have been different was if it never had happen.

Kind of off topic but they started off the radio segment stating that 2/3rds of all gun deaths in the U.S. are from suicides. I think this speaks volumes of the importance of improving our mental health programs and providing general practitioners with resources to aid diagnosing and treating disorders such as depression. This is basically the transcript of the radio piece but both can be accessed from the website. |

One used an herbicide, the other a plastic bag. If someone wants out of this world, they will find a way out. The one family member who asphyxiated himself was not known to be depressed. Like many of like mind, he knew how to hide it so that it could not be diagnosed or noticed. He didn't want to be treated. As long as these people don't take out others in the process, then I have no problem with their decision to take their own lives. |

Now days you mention anything is wrong to a DR and they have that pill to fix your problem. People don't learn how to deal with issues like memory loss they just pop a pill. I'm no DR but all these drugs we are pumping into people cannot be good for the body. |
