Helu had foot surgery in February
Helu Jr. on path to recovery after surgery | CSN Washington
Good news, hopefully he can get back to 100% now |
Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
Damn, its kinda sux our medical staff couldnt find the problem. Sounds like this might be over for good. Helu 100% is a game changer on the field.
|
Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
If so, Helu would be a big addition. Like getting back a healthy and back to old self RAK and Carricker. But the 'healthy and back to old' is the key.
If Royster can take the next step, we have come along way with our RB's. Plus you know we will draft one RB and pick up 2 or 3 more rookie FA RB's. There should be another good one in there. This is the first time since JGibbs1 that I feel the glass half full as opposed to the opposite with the Skins roster talent. ShanAllen overall has been a good thing. |
Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
As to the medical staff not finding it, it sounds like the problem wasn't discovered until they did invasive foot surgery. Just one of those things that doesn't show up until you actually go into the body and take a look.
Back in the day, that's how all injuries were. None of this "scope the knee" stuff, the docs had to cut the knee open, poke around inside it and the player went on the IR. As a result, guys played on injury until they couldn't take it b/c to examine it meant your season was over. |
Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
^^ So true, technology is a beautiful thing.

Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
This is huge!! A healthy Helu is a hell of a weapon, this kid has shown flashes and with Morris in the mix they could be like when the Giants use to have thunder and lighting, especially on screen passes.

Right on. If Helu can step up and be the speedy change-of-pace back that we've all hoped for, our offense becomes much more deadly. |
Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
It'd be nice if Helu can provide a spark and a spring to the offense. Other than RG3 what the backfield needed was more speed. Helu, Carriker, Orakpo and Merriweather will be like adding 4 players to a division champ without spending an additional penny assuming they all come back healthy and at their previou levels.

Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
While this report says other wise, Helu may be healthy now, but he's still injury prone to me. I just have that feeling that even if his leg is better, it'll be something new come football time. Prove me wrong Roy!
|
Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
On the bright side, he will not have to be an every down guy. If he can maintain any semblance of his potential, he will be a threat.
More threats=Div Champ+ |

Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
Helu was missed a little bit last year. But he was largely a forgotten man considering the enormous season Alfred Morris had.
|
Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
Helu not being a every down back make preserve him a bit; hopefully.
I am not holding my breath on him. Though I am a fan of his. |
Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
Our backup RB's are too pedestrian to suit me. Helu, when healthy, didn't have much production. He's fast, but he hasn't really threatened the defense with big play potential. Royster is simply too slow for the NFL.
That's why I want to see the Skins draft a 3rd Down Back type. There are plenty of candidates, such as Mike Gillislee, Jonathan Franklin, Joseph Randle, Andre Ellington, Knile Davis, and Kenjon Barner. |

Exactly. He has big play ability and he showed it. He just not the bruiser Alfmo is. |
Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
I think where we really missed a guy like Helu last year was being able to swing it to someone coming out of the backfield. He had 49 catches as a rookie. That aspect was completely missing from our offense.
|
Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
I may be a little too judgemental about him. I just expected more of him, so I'd like to see some competition brought in to challenge him.
Mike Shanahan said of Helu, "I’m hoping Helu can come back and be the guy that he was at certain times before the injury." It's the "at certain times" part of the quote that is my hang up about Helu. I want more 1st Down conversions, better pass protection, and more big plays from our 3rd Down Back. |

You said the key words there. Whenever you have to say the key words, when healthy, about a prospect or player, you want to avoid those guys/they're really not that good because they're hardly on the field. |

I'm quite positive I've heard you say the same thing about players you wanted to bring in or re-sign. |

Well hopefully they fixed his lingering foot issue with this past surgery in Feb. I know what you mean when you say we should avoid those type players with a a laundry list of injuries ....but we drafted him. We shouldn't give up on him now. He wasn't known to be injury prone coming outta college. I think he will be a full go and, like Matty said he could give us that screen play dynamic to our offense. Would be a BIG plus |

Nope, I've always preached that we stay away from ''when healthy'' guys |

Anyone know Chris Nields health status? |

Exactly the same can be said for many head cases (they miss the field due to suspensions or bad attitudes) but you seem to argue for them consistently. |

Agreed. Adding that dynamic would make it even harder on the ends and olbs to make proper reads. |

Because one is mental and one is physical. If their heads on right, then they're no problem. Injury prone guys can't shake injuries no matter how much the tone up, work out, stay in shape, limit their playing time, etc. |

But the whole point of "head case" is that their heads are not on right. A person can be as "mental injury prone" as another one is "physical injury prone." And the bottom line remains the same: whether you miss the game because you are hurt or miss the game because of narcissism, the game has been missed either way. |
Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
Hope Helu can come back and get his career going again. He sort of reminds me of Kelvin Bryant. Very good out of the backfield but you can't keep him in there full time cause he'll get banged up. I think he's the perfect compliment to Morris if he's willing to take a back seat and play 3rd down.

Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
Forget about the f&cking toe!!
Helu was absolutely a game-changer when healthy. He's not an every down back at this point, but he's a perfect 3rd down/change of pace guy for us. He's also shown a lot of dedication IMO. Deserves the opportunity to be 2nd on the depth chart. That said, Mike probably will/should draft another RB in the late rounds this month. Helu and the rookie will compete. Good stuff. |

Saw this, just imagine if Helu comes back healthy. |
Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
One area where Shanny gets 100% of me butting out is the RB position. He knows how to find talent and that was true before AlfMo. If he wanted to draft 0 rb's this draft or draft 3 of them, I would just assume he know's something I don't.
Looking forward to seeing more AlfMo homerun swings this season. Hail! |
Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
I'm glad Helu is getting healthy. He showed what he can do back in 2011. Our offense is even better with him in the line-up.

Re: Helu had foot surgery in February
I think Helu is going to always be our version of Felix Jones. He will show some plays that make us think WOW and then miss 3 weeks with a dinged ankle, knee, toe, etc. He's got some speed, nice burst, etc but his vision is pretty terrible. He can't read a hole to save his life and he runs tight (too many steps without going anywhere) in space. When he gets out ahead, he's not going to get caught though. I said last offseason if we could combine Royster's vision with Helu's wheels we would have a great back. If Morris had his speed, he would be a top 3 back (that's more of a compliment to Morris's vision than anything).
Hopefully he can play a solid role as a change of pace/3rd down back but I want to see us pick one in the 3-5 round this weekend because I don't trust him to stay healthy and productive. |

I believe Matty said he had 42 receptions in the 2011 season; that is pretty coupled with Alfomo that is a scary backfield. |

Remember the Seattle game for Helu? He had 166 yards total, 7 receptions and this: Then, he broke Art Monk and Kelvin Bryant's receptions in a game record with 14. Art Monk had 13 receptions twice. It was an big personal accomplishment by Helu. You're right, the team was a mess though but Helu provided some of the few bright spots in that season. |

Same with those 63-yard FGs...seriously kickers, are your offenses so impotent that they can't get you closer than 63 yards in a clutch situation? Well, in Janikowski's case... [YT]UXTvv4mjur0[/YT] [YT]kk968VCdxXY[/YT] [YT]KuzrVYgRhAI[/YT] |
