Re: Around the NFL-Draft News & Rumors
Well we're almost a week away (finally) from the draft. Heres my mock draft.
1. KC Luke Joeckel-Makes the most sense 2. Jax Tavon Austin- Shocker? Yeah, Jax supposedly has it narrowed down to two players. My thinking is that whether Gabbert is or isn't the answer (he isn't) they can get a big play WR for him or whomever they get next year. The pass rushers in this draft are deep. Plus next year they'll be more than likely picking in the top 5 again, where they'll have a chance to get a great QB (Teddy Bridgewater, David Fales) or a great pass rusher (Jadevon Clowney) plus they have a very high 2nd round pick in this draft should they go after a Mike Glennon or Matt Barkley. 3. Oakland Shariff Floyd- they need a pass rusher, and a DT, he's both. 4. Philly Dion Jordan- Chip Kelly will probably get someone he is familiar with and they're changing to a 3-4 which is where I think Dion should play. I really contemplated Eric Fisher here. 5. Detroit Eric Fisher- They lost Backus and Riley Reiff is more of a RT. Protecting stafford is most important. 6. Cleveland Dee Milliner- him with Haden is a great tandem that'll be hard for the rest of the AFCN to throw on. 7. Arizona Lane Johnson- They're OL sucked all year. Makes the most sense to get the best OLineman available. 8. Buffalo Ziggy Ansah- Again, they need a lot. 9. New York Jarvis Jones- His spine is good enough for Rex 10. Tennessee Johnathan Cooper- they need a guard that can go against JJ 2 times a year, I like Warmack more than Cooper, but they like Cooper supposedly. 11. San Diego Chance Warmack-they need OL help 12. Miami Sheldon Richardson- I was between him and Lotulelei, Sheldon doesn't have the heart red flag and is more battle tested in the SEC. 13. TRADE Jets Geno Smith- Jets trade Revis to the Bucs and get their QB. 14. Carolina Star Lotulelei- They need a good DT here he is. 15. New Orleans Brakevious Mingo- They're changing to a 3-4 heres an OLB from their backyard. Plus Rob Ryan likes CBs and gets what he wants (heard that on NFLN tonight). 16. St. Louis Kenny Vaccaro- they cut Mikell, so heres their new FS. 17. Pittsburgh Cordarrelle Patterson- they need a lot, BPA of need is a WR who is physical and can make plays. 18. Dallas Johnathan Cyprien- They need a safety, he can play both positions. Jerry supposedly loves him; another surprise. 19. New York Giants Bjorn Werner- they know that Osi is gone and Tuck is going down hill. They want someone opposite JPP. 20. Chicago Arthur Brown- they need an MLB to replace Urlacher. I was between Te'o, brown and Ogletree. Browns the least controversial of the 3. 21. Cincinnati Alec Ogletree- athletic MLB to replace Maualuga or can play OLB should Burfict move there. 22. St. Louis DeAndre Hopkins- They need a WR, he's a big play WR 23. Minnesota Manti Te'o- they need a MLB. Te'o fits well in that locker room and division. 24. Indy Jesse Williams- he can play DE and NT, I think they choose him over Datone Jones a DE 25. Minnesota Xavier Rhodes- they need a CB to replace Winfield 26. Green Bay Datone Jones- a pass rushing DE to create pressure opposite Matthews. 27. Houston Keenan Allen- its between him and Minter; offense is getting old and one demensional. 28. Denver Slyvester Williams- they need a MLB, DT, DE, CB, S. Heres the BPA of need. 29. New England Desmond Trufant- they to need a DT, DE, CB and S. Trufant his nfl bloodlines, so maybe Belichick finally hits on this one. 30. Atlanta Tyler Eifert- Heres Tony Gonzalezs replacement 31. San Francisco Zach Ertz- Jim Harbaugh supposedly loves Ertz and they lost Delanie Walker. I was torn between him and John Jenkins. I think they pick the other (jenkins in this case) with the Chiefs 2nd rounder they acquired. 32. Baltimore Kevin Minter- amazing how all these great players of need falls to Baltimore. Lose Ray Lewis and Dannell Ellerbe; get McClain and Minter. (Could easily see a trade occuring here though for a QB needy team that wants to pay guaranteed money and years to a QB) Yes I only have 1 QB going in the first and yes I don't have a RB going in the first. If I were to have a RB going anywhere, it would be Lacy to the Rams at 22. also heres a good article of undervalued prospects The 2013 draft's 'Better-than' Team - CBSSports.com |

Nice work Cult . I would hate to see Fisher fall to the Lions ( Oakland should take him ).

Good mock but rob Ryan isn't in Cleveland, he's in N.O

No way Geno Smith makes it out of the top 10.
No way Geno Smith makes it out of the top 10.
Well I hope the Eagles take him because I believe at best he will be just an average quarterback, not good enough to win you big playoff games, but not bad enough to get benched. See Matt Schaub for a prime example. |
Re: Around the NFL-Draft News & Rumors
Good mock but rob Ryan isn't in Cleveland, he's in N.O
Whoops, wasn't fully thinking there. Its been changed. As for the Geno isn't getting out of the top 10 statement; This QB class is awful. I think the main consensus in the NFL is that this is an awful QB class. People have said either the above statement; that there won't be any QB in the first; that Geno will go late to a team that trades back into the first; we could have 2-3 first round QBs. I'm sticking with one, and that he goes just out of the top ten. I figure if you're the jets, you get rid of Revis, get a pass rusher to make up for the extra coverage a guy like Revis brings you when they didn't have a pass rush, use the other pick on a QB because Geno may actually be slightly better than Sanchez and you know Rex will try to get a QB that can run the option like RG3, since it brought success like last years QBs. |
Re: Around the NFL-Draft News & Rumors
I agree its a poor class, but people love reaching for QBs. Im thinking 3 go first round.

I agree, the desperate need for QBs will outweigh what appears to be a weak class. If guys like Ponder and Gabbert went top 15 there's no reason why we shouldn't see a couple of first rounders in this draft too. |

True, but then people loved Ponder coming off the senior bowl and mike mayock who is highly regarded in draft circles, said that Blaine Gabbert was better than cam newton. That class on paper looks better than this class. Draft day will decide who's right about these QBs. |

Don't forget Mark Sanchez going in the top 5. There will probably be two quarterbacks taken in the first round, one being taken in the top 10. |

Even so, you know it's bad when the GM holding the first pick in the draft says they didn't rate a single QB in the draft with a first round grade. You have to believe him since he's holding the biggest trump card at the table. If anything, he'd be selling those QBs up so he could slide down. Not only that, but Jacksonville's GM pretty much said the same thing. |

It may be bluffing, but even Bruce Arians was like "Matt Barkley isn't that great" |

Re: Around the NFL-Draft News & Rumors
$96M none guaranteed?!
|
They actually didn't give up all that much for him but IMO he isn't worth $14 million a year. That's pretty dumb. Tampa will be better but I still think it's Atlantas division to lose
|
Re: Around the NFL-Draft News & Rumors
Good deal on both sides, especially with the contract viewpoint. I'm really surprised Revis went for it, but there are probably somewhat easy incentives for Revis to accomplish, in order to get the money.

Tampa is going to have to still figure out how to prevent Dashon Goldson from getting beat deep, but if they can do that, this is probably the top defensive roster in the NFC. |
Re: Around the NFL-Draft News & Rumors
He was first round pick so they gain a 4th rounder thats about it.
At least they wont have to deal with his next contract. |

Re: Around the NFL-Draft News & Rumors
meh. no gauranteed money is nice, but a 1st and 3rd for the honor of handing revis 96mill would make me uneasy.
i'd say good on the jets. revis is a headache, and even though you won't replace him with those picks, the extra money (and comp picks) will make the team a lot more flexible. |

Umm theres a guy in this draft who is 6-10 and weighs 388lbs...wow
Another factoid.... 1963 was the last draft that saw no running backs picked in Round 1 — a streak that could end next week. The first RB off the board in ’63 was Don Lisbon, in Round 3. |
Re: Around the NFL-Draft News & Rumors
It's a trade that makes a lot of sense for both teams. Tampa gets really good, really fast, and didn't have to get married to Revis in terms of contract or draft value. The Jets get one of the most valuable assets in the NFL (a first round pick) at the point when its most valuable (week of the draft, GMs first season in town), and gives Izdek enough ammo over the next two years to rebuild the Jets.
This doesn't mean the Jets are ever going to be as good without Revis as they were with him (in fact, I'd probably bet against it), but given where they were in terms of roster and cap, they needed the opportunity. The Bucs are probably on a shortlist of top NFC teams right now. They're right where they need to be in the NFC South...whether you'd take them over the Falcons isn't really an important thing to decide in April. |

Let's remember how they ended the season last year (1-5), alot more questions than answers. I wouldnt move them ahead of the Saints nor the Falcons in that division. In regards to the trade, makes sense for both sides and like it for both. Revis is still the best corner in the league. I certainly dont think it produces 3-5 wins for Tampa automatically. |

And the Falcons have a ton to prove as well. You can't take last years wins away from them, but you can point out that their point differential wasn't all that and they weren't particularly competitive in the playoffs last year after putting up a quick 20 points on the Seahawks. The Bucs are still a huge projection at this point, but they have a ton of continuity on their roster: beyond Revis and Goldson, they changed practically nothing from last season. The NFC South is not a division of world beaters. I don't think they'd be ahead of the Falcons in a set of power rankings done today, but midseason power rankings are way more important all things considered. I'd expect the Falcons to respond to this with an aggressive move up in the draft for a defensive player with an elite rating (Jordan or Milliner). |

Seattle SF Washington NyG Gb ARE all better than TB
I probably wouldn't agree about the NFC East teams being better. I think we're the best team (both present and in terms of future potential) in a weak division. When RG3 is back, healthy, and throwing it around, the Redskins will have a better case as NFC favorites. Freeman's the huge question mark on that team right now, but he was also the NFL's most improved player last year (from 2011), so maybe there's more upside there. And I think you said Flacco was average at this time last year...and all he did was spend 16 regular season games proving you right. It might work out in spite of Josh Freeman. New Orleans is just not good right now. That team is Brees, Graham, Jenkins, and a lot of over the hill guys (which may include Brees at this point, to be honest). |

Jez, I know its been said thousands of times already, but this draft really is talented into the 3rd-4th rounds. Barrett Jones, a 2 time All American OLineman and 3 time national championship winner, is the "91st" best prospect in this draft to Mike Mayock..wow. Just shows you some of the talent. I keep forgetting about RG3's teammate Terrence Williams at Baylor. He is another 2nd rounder we could get should Hunter not be there, and assuming we really do address the offense first. |

Seattle SF Washington NyG Gb ARE all better than TB
As good as Revis is, its still a QB driven league. Freeman decides how great the bucs will be, not Revis. The Bucs are still not a playoff team in my eyes. the Jets on the other hand, should they get a good QB like Geno, could benefit a lot from this trade. |
