How will we survive without Smooty??

I'll tell you how....

Smoot's departure will now open the door for the arrival of "THE ADE" as the starting CB opposite Springroll. THE ADE has been patiently biding his time on the special teams squad - and now his opportunity is here! I'm calling it - today - THE ADE will be large and in-charge this season....

Barrow will be healthy this year and be the MLB we expected him to be last year - Pierce, although a consensus great fill-in last year, will not be missed.

Rod "drop it like it's hot" Gardner will be traded away for a 2nd rounder. We'll grab Mike Williams with the #9, and pick up a DE like Marcus Spears with the second rounder. Not too bad.

I think the offense will be dramatically improved with the new (healthly) o-line. I think Patton will be the 4th best WR on our team, just like he was with the Pats -but I welcome him nonetheless.

I like Ramsey, but he better not screw up this season. He's well beyond the "learning years" - he needs to perform!!

I said last night in the chatroom that Ade is being groomed for the starting job. I don't think he'll be a day one starter, but don't be suprised to see him in the starting lineup at some point soon.

Rod Gardner couldn't catch a cold. I think we'll get a 3rd rounder at best for him.

...and I doubt that Ade "uh-oh" Jimoh will start.

I like your thinking. I think both Wilds and Harris give us solid options as well. With Williams defensive scheme the focus is on the system not just the players. I still cannot figure out what is up with Mike Barrows? We sure could use this guy if he is healthy.

Why is he still around? Remember that he took the roster spot of a decent CB last year (Rashad Bauman).

My thinking is that he fits the mold for a Gregg Williams CB: he's big and physical. I think that with a little bit of his coverage skills refinement, he can be a darn good CB in this defense. He may be the Antonio Pierce of the secondary.

First off that is too funny. Actually made me laugh on a day in which I am depsondent about losing my favorite Skin. Commendable.

Second...curses to you for getting that damn goofy ass song stuck in my mind.

Re: How will we survive without Smooty??

Wilds must be promising if Greg Williams likes him. We'll still need a top flight CB out of this years draft though in order to stay young and have guys ready when Harris and Springs are closer to the end of thier careers. :oink:

I totally agree! A nice haircut and a manicure and THE ADE will have the looks to go with the talent - the complete package. I've always thought that he could use a little grooming....

That last line is classic!
I have personnally been off of The Ade bandwagon ever since he was toasted 4 or 5 times in '03!

Of course, I never really was on it to begin with! Personally I would have preferred to keep "Smootsmack" and have lost "The Ade" to FA!

Smootsmack, please, what is your new handle?

Re: How will we survive without Smooty??

Ade Jimoh is a total POS. Every time he comes into a game, you can count on the D giving up a long pass. He's an awful CB, I can't belive he's still on the team. And why do people still seem to think that we're still going to draft a WR w/the #9 pick? Our recieving corps is going to be fine. We need to make sure that the D is still awesome by drafting a shutdown CB, if one is still available at #9.

By virtue of the fact that he's still on the team, and YOU think he's worthless and shouldn't be, seems to tell me that you think you know more than Gregg Williams and co, which I highly doubt. Antonio Pierce wasn't a great player before last year, and I remember people letting off steam on here about him too, but we all know how things ended up. Believe it or not, some players can continue to evolve and get better over time given an opportunity and good coaching.

I disagree. He probably is the best "cheap" free agent wideout still on the market. I think we get a 2nd or a 3rd and 5th for him.

Re: How will we survive without Smooty??

Ade's a smart kid (actually got an academic scholarship to Utah State), and he's got the right kind of build and athleticism for Williams' expectations of physical play at the corner spot. With a little more seasoning, he could certainly develop into a solid nickelback. I have serious doubts as to whether he will ever develop into a starting-caliber cornerback, but with Gregg Williams and his defensive staff around, you just never know.

The main reason Ade's stuck around is his special teams play, and his coachability. I suspect Wilds will get a shot at nickelback before Ade, and Wilds probably has more upside. But as long as Ade's showing improvement in practice at corner, and making tackles on special teams, he's got a shot at staying on the roster every year.

IMO the Redskins are not going to draft a CB at #9!!! Think about it, Gibbs likes proven vets over unproven rookies, plus why would we pick a CB @#9 only to pay him what we would have paid to Smoot? Atleast with Smoot we knew what we were getting for $10million. With a rookie we REALLY would not know how good he is. IMO the Redskins are either going to take the best WR that is left or trade down.

Re: How will we survive without Smooty??

What are the possiblities that we may make a run at Dyson? His a young corner that is not drawing any attention right now!

RedskinPete 03-10-2005 04:38 AM

I think we will be OK with out Smoot!

Ok a year ago everbody was saying the sky was falling after the Bailey trade! That Bailey was the best and the Skins D would never be the same. What happen? With out Bailey the D was not only better but one of the best in the league! Now Williams has alot to do with that but if you had said the D was going to be that good and do it with out Bailey,Arrington and Barrow you would never believe it! So to say the loss of Smoot and Pierce makes D better or weaker at this point is just a guess at best! Barrow could be the player he has been and who knows what will happen in the draft for the CB spot! As for Smoot he was a good CB not a great CB! Springs had a better year! So it's up to Gibbs to replace Smoot and I think he has a plan!

Very true Pete, very true... We'll just have to wait til the season starts.

Re: How will we survive without Smooty??

Just like RedskinPete said, the Skins and Gibbs have a plan so swollow it and follow it
cause this is the new way "bidness" is getting done around here!

TheMalcolmConnection 03-10-2005 09:28 PM

Re: How will we survive without Smooty??

And I like the way the bidness is being handled...
