Is there any indication as to whether we'll need to free up more cash to sign the remaining rookies?

Nah they have plenty of room right now. |

@Rich_TandlerCSN: Jenkins and Rambo signings will not affect salary cap right now, neither deal will end up in top 51 contracts. #Ruleof51

Guess I wasn't the only one who had the same question lol |
Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
I think since the last CBA, these rookie contracts are in a tight box financially. It should make it easy to get these guys signed and on board. It really helps that the skins didn't draft in the first round as far as money goes. I would expect all of their rookies to be signed by training camp easily.

Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
officially signed Lance Lewis and he will be coming to camp again. He was invited to camp last year as a rookie but hurt his groin and was out and placed on IR. I know I am a little bias being an ECU alum like Lewis. But the guy can play, hes smooth, and catches with ease @ 6-3. Rooting for him and don't be surprised if he makes the final 53, he's my surprise.

That would be a suprise, all right. No way a guy this marginal makes the 53...at best, practice squad |

Is Hankerson really that consistent to you? Lance can make this team while it might not be likely it's not a no with no doubt bc he is a "marginal" guy. |
Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
he's a 6'3" WR that wasn't drafted, that's what makes him marginal.
that doesn't mean he can't do something, but the odds are highly against it. |
Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
Sort of expecting one of the late round UDA receivers to step up.
Rod Smith was an undrafted free agent receiver who got a shot with Shanahan..... Shannon Sharpe was 7th rounder Its not only RBs he finds....Just saying..... |
Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
I would say Aldrick Robinson and Dezmon Briscoe spots are extremely vunerable going into camp.
The fact we are signing every UDFA at the WR position says Shanny is looking to upgrade and is giving everyone a shot. The message is time for Robinson, Briscoe, and Mr Hanky to step up or get the f*ck off the team. |
Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
I think our WR corps will look pretty much the same from last year. Maybe one spot up for grabs.
|
Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
@ESPNRadio980: #Redskins just announced the signing of 5th round pick RB Chris Thompson, and also signed WR Lance Lewis.

Im just eager for one of those 3 to ball out. Garcon has shown he is a clear #1 reciever in the game and Morgan brings alot of stuff that doesnt show up on the stat sheet. Moss is an impact slot WR, but the end is nigh with his age. Moss and potentially Morgan could be done at the end of the season, time to see those young guys develop. My ball out chance potential percentages are 50% for Hanky, 20% Donnie Briscoe, and 10% chance for Robinson for this upcoming season. |

He has shown flashes and has all the tools. Just needs to get his mind right and show it on a more consistent basis. Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
Hankerson needs to step up no doubt, but people seem to forget that last year was really his first year with a full offseason of work under his belt. Robinson may never be more than just a speed guy but it's always nice to have a guy like that on your roster.
Hopefully Morgan will be much healthier this year, I think he's capable of playing really well for us. |

I don't see it. Morgan played with tore ligaments on both hands and a bum ankle that never did recover fully and yet he gave it all out on the field last year. Granted he was not an explosive player like Garcon but he definitely played a big role in the offense in terms of blocking and catching balls in middle of the field. And not to mention, Morgan grew up rooting for Redskins, what could be better than that? I really believe Morgan will be the break out player on offense this year. |

Yeah, your right. The only reason I say he could be done is the way his contract is structured, not his performance. I think Morgan could be a ball out star. Some of those games last year, Morgan just disappeared and to find out about the injuries makes sense now. @ Earthquake, Mr Hanky needs to put it together. He's one flush away. |

As Matty said, last season was his first full season playing. 38 catches 543 yards 3 TDs I fully expect those numbers to rise this season something to the likes of 60 receptions 800-900 yards and 6 or 7 TDs. I expect him to be our 3rd leading reciever, behind Garcon and Davis. |

Yeah maybe but it is attainable. I am leaning more towards the 800 part. |
Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
Lewis's time in the 40 is between 4.58-4.59 (his fastest was 4.50 and his slowest was 4.68). To me, that seems slow for an NFL wide receiver (although Anquan Boldin apparently ran a 4.72 at the combine and was a 2nd round draft pick). Lance Lewis | East Carolina, WR : 2012 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile
Lewis also was undrafted a year ago. Not sure why he wasn't drafted, but clearly there was a reason. Additionally, if he had awed anyone last year, he would have stuck on a roster - we had the spots for the taking <cough> Briscoe <cough>. Maybe he takes a spot this year, but I am thinking, if he had a flash, Briscoe would not have made the team. Just saying. Seems to me, "marginal" is a pretty accurate description. I am with Matty. I think the WR's are essentially the same. Maybe Briscoe, Robinson or both are replaced but I think the top 4 are staying the same this year. |
Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
Last year, Hank, Garcon, and Moss all performed at roughly the same level (Moss in a couple more snaps than the other two) and would be a strong 1-2-3 on any team. Morgan wasn't quite at that level last year but was hurt pretty on (although Garcon was hurt on the second series of the season, so I'm not sure that's an excuse).

I've just seen him play and think he can do it, and you have to think they saw something or they wouldn't have signed him a few days ago. Time will tell. |
Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
I think Hank has the physical abilities to be a very good WR, but I think mentally he needs to get past his injury. I think at times last season he played with some hesitation. Hopefully being healthy for an entire season and along with some other things that have been mentioned (i.e. having an actual training camp, more experience, etc.) will help him develop into a starting WR.

Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
I love this WR corps.
|
Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
The thing with our WR core is that we only have one true speed threat, and thats Garcon. Yes aldrick robinson is fast, but he's a poor mans Mike wallance, only being able to run the 9 route (aka go deep) the best and not being able to run other routes well.
Hankerson is that guy who I agree with a lot of you saying that this is going to be his make or break year; its now or never. Hankerson has shaky hands. A WR with shaky hands is like a RB who doesn't like getting hit. Useless, in other words. Hopefully Hanks hands get better because he has all the other tools to be a Roddy White-like WR. I feel that with recent Redskin history at WR, he probably won't pan out. But its Jordan Reed whom I am most excited for. He makes up for our WR troubles. He is the Hernandez to our (not at all like) Gronkowski, Fred Davis. The problem with Fred is how effective will he be coming off a torn Achilles. Supposedly 90% of people that tear it, don't come back to their original speed. If healthy, these guys can be stars. And Chris Thompson gives us that RB/WR combination we have been lacking, IF he too is healthy since he's missed the past 2 seasons with Back and ACL injuries. |
Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
^If Hankerson would turn out to be a Roddy White, we'd be set at WR with him and Garcon. But I don't see it. I think he's just going to be a number 3 or maybe 2 receiver his whole career. Solid, just never Pro Bowl quality.
And I agree with you about Jordan Reed. I'm excited to see how we use him. |

True, I don't think (or hope?) it would happen as much next season. Also I think Morgan's contract actually goes for four or five years but either party could choose to opt out from the contract after second season. |

And Reed may turn out to be our best pick from the draft. He is so similar to Hernandez is ridiculous. |
Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
You could say that about every one of our picks. These guys have all shown big flashes in their college careers.
I would definitely prefer that two of the DBS turn out to be awesome of Reed, but I could see his versatility doing well in the offense. He could be the Shannon Sharpe that we were told/thought/hoped for Paul to be. |
Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
As much as it would be great and I would love it I have not seen anything from Hankerson to believe he will ever be close to Roddy White.

Fun to think about, though. :) I just hope Robinson isn't released. I know some people don't like him, but even if he doesn't produce a lot of stats, just having him out on the field forces defenders to back off. And obviously, that helps the other receivers. If we need to release a WR, I hope it's Briscoe. |

I could see him definitely being the odd man out if they decided to keep one of the udfas or Lance Lewis. Robinson, Briscoe, and Paul would be the pass catchers in danger of losing a spot on the team. Question for the arm chair GMs has Robison shown us anything that makes us think he could be a replacement for Moss next year? Can he play the slot? |
Re: Redskins rookie signing thread
To be fair, it took a while for Roddy White to become Roddy White.

His first two years were nothing to write home about (29 and 30 receptions). In his third he really came into his own (83 rec. and never less than that again). Roddy White NFL Football Statistics - Pro-Football-Reference.com LH went from 19 to 38 receptions in his first two years. Not sure I see him being an 80+ WR in the coming year. Hope I am wrong. If he does and we could go 4 wide with Garcon, Morgan, Moss, Hank and Davis at TE ... their won't be enough footballs to go around. |
