Defensive end Courtney Brown will visit the Washington Redskins today, according to two sources familiar with the plans, and the club intends to sign him before he departs Redskins Park for other scheduled visits. |
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
I do like this news; hopefully its a good deal conract-wise. Knowing us though; its going to be a big conract. If that Moss rumor is true; I really have lost any and all faith in our front office.

Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
how much "input" do you guys think LaVar had on this decision? Do you think they asked LA what he thought or that LaVar pushed for Brown to come here?

I dont know how much it effected the desicion; but it seems like current players on the team can have an effect on who comes here. Portis rumored ot have somthing to do with Moss/Taylor. I think Arrington proboboly pushed for him to come here; but I dont know if it was the deciding factor. |

From what I percieve Lavar is pulling the string's, he's the driving force behind the Moss trade, and has officially offered to negotiate the term's and number's of brown's AND Moss's new deal's personally, all the while he's in the process of orchestrating our strategy for next month's draft. That Lavar he's something special! :stop:  |
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
Brown is injury prone. He wil mss 5-6 games. Bad idea.
|
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
Lavar has also written and performed all of the songs the Redskins cheerleaders will be performing to next year. He's a real renaissance man! :laughing2
|
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
Not a bad idea if he comes cheap. His potential outweighs his past injury problems. As long as we're not expecting him to come in and be an every down starter.

You hit the nail on the head!!! Williams likes rotation with his front 4, keeps them fresh on the field. I think that Brown will be a hugh plus to add to that rotation. |

He missed last year due to injury which is rare for him. He has brought attitude and great spped to our team. I assume since you are the great talent evaluator that only your opion is right, right? |
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
This makes me nervous. When they intend to sign someone before they leave for other visits it probably means they're going to overpay. I mean if you get an offer you think is good enough to not even ask anyone else for I would think it means you've been overpayed. I like a multiyear deal for him but onyl a short one at a value. This does not sound like what is planned.

Yeah they always at least talk to the guys so they can feel like they are respected and their opinions matter. It doesn't even matter if they heed any advice but guys like Lavar, Ray Ray, Favre, McNabb are in the loop on big decisions. |
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
I'm liking the idea of taking a chance on him. Like I said before, I think it will pay dividends, especially if we are constantly rotating people in and out.

OK I guess I have to spell it out for you, WHO ON EARTH WOULD WANT LAVAR MANAGING THEIR CONTRACT NEGOTIATION'S???????????????????? He can't manage his own contract let alone someone else's, he also has a problem with being told where to play on the field ALA Marvin Lewis putting him at end which turn's out may be the best spot for him, and our scouting department need's his opinion on a player who has already established himself in the NFL? What's his injury have to do with this? Unless your talking about his concusion? Then I would have to agree with you and give him a pass. :pi_lightb By the way what's great spped?????? And what's my opion????? Are those medical term's for sphincter, and colon? |
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
We took a chance on an injury-prone Daryl Gardener and it worked out for us, if only for a year. This guy has a much better attitude.

Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
Here's an interesting link with comments from Kenard Lang on Courtney Brown:

Who said anything about Lavar managing a contract negotiation? I simply said that managment always consults there prime time players before making a move. This is the reality of todays sports stars. I will refrain from insulting you as you constantly feel the need to show that insults are the best way in a disagreement. I just do not understand why you have a thing for a player who is loved by many. |

offiss and lavar sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G :laughing2

Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
I agree CRT3, that players should be consulted about incoming players if AND ONLY IF they have previously played with that player. LaVar thinks he should have personel decesions which is laughable. Asking him about Brown I'm fine with because he played with him, and they made each other look better, however someone he doesn't know. Stick to that.
GMs stick to scouting. Coaches stick to coaching. Players stick to playing. --That's how it should be! |
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
When did LaVar say he wanted a say in personnel decisions, and what sort of context was it in??
I see people mentioning it from time to time, I've just never seen it or heard it for myself. |

Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
Coaches should listen to players and take their ideas into heart, I don't expect them to make the game plan, but if a player comes up and tells the coach what he thinks will work, why not give it a shot? He sees how a guy is playing him, he knows what moves are getting him open. Why not listen to the players and help exploit another team's weakness? There's a lot more to coaching than playcalling - gameplanning, motivation, techniques, etc.

Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
OK I guess I have to spell it out for you, WHO ON EARTH WOULD WANT LAVAR MANAGING THEIR CONTRACT NEGOTIATION'S????????????????????
I agree Daesal but players should be consulted as they at least should have a say in who would possibly make them a better team and a better player. No where have I read that Lavar has had input but the statement above is pretty ridculous, don't you agree?

Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
I have a simple question that I bet everyone knows the answer to. What happened on the first play that Clinton Portis touched the ball in a regular season game as a Redskin?
Answer. 56 Yard TD run. Q. Who suggested running that play? A. Clinton Portis. Shut up about Gibb's not taking players ideas into consideration! |

ROFL...........and don't forget he will be conducting the Redskins band as well............... |
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
Matty:
When Lavar signed his big contract extension with the Skins - the one that is in arbitration and grievance channels at the moment - Lavar said in the Wash Post and on local sports radio that a CRITICAL element of his signing that deal was that he would have input with Danny Boy DIRECTLY about what players on the defense would be retained and what new players might be brought in. Let me repeat, LaVar Arrington said that. Now maybe he was bullsh*itting everyone and pumping sunshine up his ass, but if you think he's a straight shooter and a "true Redskin", then you have to put some credence in his own words, no? Frankly, I'm much more fond of the "players play and coaches coach and FO assembles the team model" than I am about players - no matter how individually talented they may be - being part of a participatory democracy on a football team. |

In case this hasn't already been posted, I got this over at Tandler's Redskins Blog: "Coles' main complaint about Gibbs was the coach's inflexible nature. "I didn't feel respected as a player," Coles said. "I know everything changed [when Gibbs succeeded Spurrier] but when you feel like you're one of the best players at your position, you'd think you could talk to a coach about the play-calling. We didn't have that situation. He called the plays. We ran them. That's where things fell off with me. I realize it's a dictatorship but there's only so much you can take." |
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
But the discussion is about signning players onto a team not playcalling. I believe that is what FRPLG is talking about.

Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
well at least the skins have signed somebody this off season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
Rush must have been high when he picked out that tie!
|
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
I honestly feel we should not bother with Brown. But if we do sign him, use him in 3-4 blitz packages. That may take the focus off him, he would more than likely be effective and help him stay healthy.Other than that forget it.
|
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
If we do sign Brown, NO big money up front. Give some incentives fine.
|
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
Coaches-coach and players-play. Coaches do listen if it is not gonna take them way out of the game plan.
|
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
even if we sign Brown, I hope, as I've been saying for quite a while now, that we are still able to draft DE Chris Canty of UVA in the 3rd-4th round area. I'm gonna be so pissed off if he gets drafted by the cowpukes or any other rivals.
|
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
How about Merriman out of Maryland? This guy's stock sky rocketed after the combine and he can play DE or LB.
|
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
we have more pressing needs than de in the first round. if they draft defense in the first round this year after how $h!tty the offense played last year I'm gonna be mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore. (other people on other threads have been tossing out movie quote's so why not me :thumb: )
|
Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
I meant, if he was still around in the second or third round, but if he did as well as I said, then he probably would be taken in the first round and I just contradicted myself. Sorry.
