The guy has a brand new job, we have our favorite coach of all time going into his second year, and we aren't paying Spurrier obscene amounts of money for being somewhere else (2000 FA, LC). Let it Be.

I'm sick of talking about pie. It doesn't happen here so much, but I work with a lot of fat people.

Re: Topic You Wish Would Go Away

I'll go with the Laveraneus Coles situation on this one. So many people want to jump all over the front office for wrecking the cap. I think those people are too concerned about offseason moves. Offseason moves can have an impact on a team, but coaching, teaching, and game-planning have a lot more to do with a team's success. As Redskins fans, I think we're all used to hauling in new players every March as if it were Christmas Morning. I just think the Coles situation doesn't have nearly the impact that people think it does; $9 million cap hit and all.

I think Poontang Pie tops the list there.

Re: Topic You Wish Would Go Away

drew, I don't dislike pie (Top 5 - Apple, Pumpkin, Coconut Custard, Lemon Meringue, Key Lime). I just don't consider a cornerstone of diet, much less conversation. Ieven tried steering them to other foods, but they'd come back with "Sushi. Wonder what kind of pie I'd eat with that."

By the way Gmanc711 - I busted out the old "How about Hairpie?" joke once. The Pie people don't think it's funny. At all.

I've always considered sweet potato pie to be pumpkin's bastard cousin. They are almost identical to my ignorant taste buds.

I didn't read the whole thread, but how did pie become a topic of conversation? I'm tired of Coles, Pierce and Smoot.. If they're not Redskins anymore why are they still such hot topics of debate? Can't do anything about them now..

Your anti-pie bias has been showing for some time now. See if you can't rein it in a little.

I voted for the spending spree on the old farts, because I hate having to remember Dieon in a skins uniform as well as the signing of jeff george and the forcing out of Brad Johnson.

BrudLee: May I ask what line of work you are involved in that discusses pie so much? I find it particularly odd. I am a fan of blueberry myself but I can't imagine any extensive conversations about it with my coworkers although we do discuss fosball quite a bit.

Spurrier...go away.

they are very similiar in taste but i'd have to give sweet potato a slight advatage. a warm slice of apple pie and scoop of vanilla ice cream is always good too.

I prefer apple pie myself. But I have always had a special place in my heart for Pumpkin Cheesecake.

I've intentionally avoided the whole "cheesecake conundrum" as it's known around here. It's like talking about your favorite car, when someone pipes up with Ferrari. Well, duh, Ferrari. We're talking about cars, not Italian leg-spreaders.

If a flaky crust is all it takes to be a pie, then that's a pie.

I happen to think that a pie is so much more...

Re: Topic You Wish Would Go Away

Pie is the food of the gods (except Mincemeat and Strawberry Rhubarb, of course).
Pecan, Pumpkin, Coconut Custard, Blueberry, Cherry, Key Lime, Lemon Merangue, Chocolate Cream, Apple. It's all good.
But for sure... it's all about the crust.
My all time fave was Chocolate Pecan Pie at Christiana Campbell's Tavern at Williamsburg.
It knocked me on my ass.

BrudLee 03-19-2005 05:48 PM

Re: Topic You Wish Would Go Away

I've had Chocolate Pecan Pie! I'd like to amend my list.

Given the earlier mention of cheesecake, I'd like to talk about my greatest dessert experience. At a restaurant called 1776 outside of Rehoboth Beach, they have Cheesecake Bruleé - a piece of homemade cheesecake with a caramelized sugar crunchy glazing on it. My wife took a bite and I nearly divorced her.

EEich 03-19-2005 06:16 PM

Re: Topic You Wish Would Go Away

Yup... if my wife tried that she'd pull back a stump.

Is it a family recipe?

IF NOT THEN SHARE!

Our women need something to do on a Sunday morning anyway. :)

Re: Topic You Wish Would Go Away

I probably just skipped right past it, but why has no one mentioned key lime pie?

BrudLee 03-20-2005 07:51 AM

Re: Topic You Wish Would Go Away

Pie #5 on my list, TAFKAS. Key Lime is good, but it's not a three-slicer like apple, or the vastly under-rated Coconut Custard.

I think if you can't eat three pieces of a pie before shame takes over, it can't be on the top of the list.
